The contrasts they showed between Attny Myung Seok and Attny Ryu were very stark. They both try their best for their clients, but one needs to be vigilant of threats while the other gains encouragement and friendship. Myung Seok's office is spacious with wide windows and luxurious furnishings in comparison to Attny Ryu's cluttered room, but he eats fast food on almost a daily basis, drinks a lot of coffee and barely has time to sleep. He's on one case after the other while Attny Ryu is eating food she made using ingredients from her own rooftop garden/farm and has time to recite poetry before preparing for her next case. While he keeps winning and she keeps losing, he pushes down his guilt about being on maybe the wrong side of things while she is lightweight because her morals are in line with her work.
Hi, everyone here. As a Korean, I would like to introduce you about the Korean culture related to the family name and given name between the judge and lawyer Ryu in this drama. In Korea, unlike Western countries, family names are used ahead of their given names. Therefore, "Ryu" is the common family name of the judge and the plaintiff's lawyer, and I think many of you are probably aware of this. Moreover, the judge asked the plaintiff's lawyer for her father's name to find out the relationship between themselves with the same family name and as the descendants of common ancestors. By doing this, we've normally got to know the relative relationship between them according to the name that their descendants use in Korea. In this drama, Lawyer Ryu is definitely younger than the judge, but when she heard his name, she noticed that she could be his aunt. And the judge, he knew it as well. That's why the judge looked a little embarrassed when lawyer Ryu revealed her father's name. And she found herself younger than the judge, but when she heard his name, she's more "senior" in their family and relative relationships than the judge, and she made it known to the judge and used it on every important issue. How? She deliberately called out the full name of the judge. Foreigners who don't know these cultural keywords may have passed this part of the drama, but this was one of the points that made Korean viewers laugh. This is a phenomenon that occurs in Korea because we value the relationship between age and relative. In general, an aunt or uncle is older than their nephews or nieces, but sometimes, as we saw in the drama, it's not. I hope what I mentioned helped you while watching this drama.
Although I don’t understand Korean language, their non-verbal gestures made me understand. It helped that I’m Asian so I can easily understand or relate to the Korean culture even though I’ve no inkling about it. These dramas expose me to a lot of the culture.
Let me deliver one of the comments I liked on the original clip: "Myeongseok argues the principle of an attorney's role, while Ryu Jaesook tells how attorneys can go further if not restricted to the basic role. Both points of view make sense and also necessary for the society. I love the way this show contrasts the different perspectives throughout the episodes all the time."
This episode is based on a real case in South Korea about 25 years ago. The writer of this drama got consultation from a famous law firm in Korea called "Tae-pyeong-yang", which means "Pacific Ocean", so most of the cases dealt here are based on real cases. I think that is why the writer named Youngwoo's law firm Hanbada, which means one ocean, as a tribute to Tae-pyeong-yang.
My problem with Kwon remains the same. He "sees" everyone else's faults or wrongs but can't see his own. Did he ever believe he would one day become an attorney who would willingly hurt his own company just to hurt a coworker that is trying the best she can with cards she's been dealt. Neopitism which wasn't really nepotism vs premeditated company sabotage. Saying people unfairly gave her an advantage is not an excuse for him to do wrong.
I think much of that stems from his insecurities and inferiority complex against Woo young woo. He knows she's far better lawyer than he is, even though she has disabilities or in-spite of her disabilities. He's threatened by it and his ego can't reconcile it.
@@Xentradi97 THAT!!!! EXACTLY THAT!!!!! He just doesn't see that he is the problem. But alas, you can't walk in the light until you come to it so... I have high hopes that he will see the light AND WALK TOWARDS IT, soon
the actress Woo here is also in HOT STOVE LEAGUE where she was assistant manager of the main character who came to the baseball team, the lowest team of all time and he went there to make them become major team. It was such a great drama too. I hope u can give it a chance

Finally! I was waiting and I kept refreshing! (I copied and pasted this from Reddit) In ep12, I would like to explain the relationship between Judge Ryu and Atty Ryu. 항렬'Hang-ryol' is a word that expresses the relationship between lineages that diverge from the direct line of the same paternal lineage. A person's name indicates whether the rank within the person's family is the same, high or low. In the past, most people named their names according to this order of their families. So, somethimes by just hearing the name of a relative, it was possible to find the relation in the family tree of that person. Depending on the ranks, the younger person may become the older person's uncle or aunt. In this case, the older person should respect the younger person and use honorific. So this is why Judge Ryu cared about Atty Ryu's reactions. They are not in the same family, but broadly speaking, they are distant relatives, and Atty Ryu is aunt of Judge Ryu. For reference, the family names of Judge Ryu and Atty Ryu are from Andong area, which is famous for being the most conservative and patriarchal in Korea. Discrimination against women is also serious there, and there is a joke among Korean women that the first daughters of the region should become rappers(Because they can express the repressed resentment and anger well) lol Atty Ryu became a lawyer fighting for women's rights instead. In modern times, it is not so strict, and we often let siblings have the one same letter in their names only to show that they are family. Kim Sang-hoon/Kim Jeong-hoon in ep3 is an example.
Truthfully, the "Why" kinda haunts me everyday.. To a point where I get depressed at times.. It's really difficult to carry the question everywhere.. The more I think over it, the more I feel that it keeps changing, rather evolving as I move forward with it..
I agree with you. “Why?” is a difficult question to ask yourself when you have no chance to escape the situation because it will only worsen your ability to hold on.
thank you for your review! I was very moved by the production of this episode. In this episode, it's amazing that the lawyer who lost the lawsuit but looked free is represented as a flying dolphin, and the lawyer who won the lawsuit but didn't look very happy is represented as a whale trapped in an aquarium. i’m sorry that my sentence might not be smooth because i’m not good at English.🥺
I highly recommend My Mister, It's Ok to Not Be Okay, and Kingdom. IMO the top 3 kdramas in the past 5 years or so. The first deal with issues not commonly seen in Kdramas such as mental health and loneliness, while Kingdom is flat out one of the best zombie related media content ever that also happens to be a period piece. All three are exceptionally written, expertly directed and fully available on Netflix
There are a whole lot more to recommend on Netflix as well. 2 others which came out in 2020 besides It's Okay To Not Be Okay are Crash Landing On You and Hi Bye Mama.
I'm a big fan of Lee Bong-ryun (Attorney Ryu Jae-sook). I've liked her in everything I've seen her in, and she seems to be a lot of Korean shows. As always, love your analysis.
This episode was another heart warming one though the lady workers and their attorney lost the trial against the company that Young Woo and her colleagues stand for... Yeah, the counter attorney who seemed to work for laborers that mostly weak underdogs looked very positive and righteous...
Although it's not quite the same, my grandmother worked at Ford Motor Company in the 1920's and it was company policy that when a single female employee got married she was forced to quit. As fas as I know, all of the episodes are based on true stories that happened in Korea before. I heard that this incident took place in the process of M & A of one of banks in 1990s. This type of layoff doesn't happen any more, discrimination against women and layoff still remain, though. And it was believed that usually men were in charge of families as "breadwinners" back then, so women had to be the targets for layoff and it looked ok to others. And also it's true that even though the plaintiff party lost the case, they thought it was worth of filing the lawsuit since that was an unprecedented case, I believe.

Seeing how you like to go in depth I trongly believe you will LOVE 3 dramas that most reactors didn't react to 1 - my mister 2 - Beyond evil 3 - stranger All on Netflix. These are real gem ! Really popular in Korea, they won a lot of awards and compare to some more popular kdramas overseas none of them have plot hole, bad written characters and such. All 3 are really amazing !
Thank you again for another review. I felt, that although this had many elements that seemed unfair, we all have to face them. Atty Kwon, must face himself and realize that what he's becoming isn't healthy for himself or others. Greed, Jealousy, and Desparation are a very dangerous cocktail. Also, I'm happy that Atty Woo is able to grow through intereactions with others, this time Atty Ryu. Young Woo wanted to leave Hanbada and couldn't justifiably go to Taesan, this may give her purpose doing what she admitted in the first episode that she loves - law. She's seen that wrong motive can cause you to become ashamed, to drive to win can cause you bring up and disclose information that is extremely personal (previous episode relationship) or attacking the rights of others (to have a family). She seemed rather uncomfortable during this trial - I think with the calmness of her dolphin during the poety reading - she doesn't want THIS type of attorney to become exinct... her purpose may be realized.
HAHA I SEE SOME COMMENTS THAT IT HAPPENED ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO IN KOREA. THAT'S VERY NAIVE. BECAUSE IT STILL HAPPENS IN KOREA EXPECIALLY FOR PREGNANT WOMEN.
Hi! I'm very glad to discover your channel. I enjoyed a lot how you guys have conversation after watching this episode. It was very thoughtful and inspiring. You got a new subscriber!😊 I heard that ep 1 to 8 focused more on case and trial, from ep 9 it's more about how Woo navigates her journey, both as a lawyer and an autistic person learning how to live in society where you have to interact with other people. I think ep 14 portrayed the struggle very well. I don't want to spoil too much but her learning will keep ongoing through next episodes which hasn't aired yet. And yes I agree with what you guys both mentioned at the end. It gets better but we still have a very long way to go to. And sometimes media can help raising awareness, while people can have a discussion about it to make a better place. (just like you guys do!) I hope you guys keep making good content like this! Love from Korea❤🐬
Me too. I subscribed to this channel because of these wonderful reactions to this Korean drama. I hope to see other good K-dramas being featured too like 2521. Sorry, I don’t really watch the other non K-dramas. And I love Syntell’s colab with Achara too! I’m replying a lot because I’m sad this drama is almost done and I’ll miss these reaction videos too. Update: Oops... sorry, Syntell... too many people requesting different titles in the comments. :) I shall refrain.
I still remember a joke when I was young here in our country, that comes people with different jobs died and went to heaven, saint Peter asked them a question about what is their professions before letting them in. One was a teacher and she was accepted because it’s a noble job, next one is a doctor he passed as well because he saves lives and then comes the third one, he said he was an important attorney and he was not accepted because he defends sinners. Frankly, when I was young I don't understand the joke and now a grown-up I got why being a lawyer is a hard job.
Tonight is the day that episode 15 is finally aired. I am very much looking forward to tomorrow. I'm sorry it's the last episode~😭 They say season 2 is coming in 2024. I'll be looking forward to
I hope you will watch and react to this interview of Park Eunbin. She goes deep into how she developed the character and also talks more about the show. It's overall a very insightful interview. ruclips.net/video/0IGasR4mAOU/видео.html
This is a real world thing...I consulted with a big company and one VP was "in charge" of getting rid of people who had been there too long. She was one of the last to get fired...she was crying all the way out the door...no one had any pity for her.
love your reaction!!! I've also watched korean attorneys' reaction on this episode, and they said it's not uncommon for them that attorneys at large law firms get severely ill. so sad....
I agree. And though this episode is a very bad example, I think he is not all bad. For example, he loves Jun Ho as a brother and works to make Jun Ho's romance come to fruition.
@@CarysLibri I was hoping to see more reaction of him being stunned that Jun Ho dated Young Woo though. That was too short lived. I guess he didn’t really care?
Yay! Finally 💕💕 And yes, gender discrimination is still very rampant in countries like South Korea and Japan. In Japan it’s almost a given that a woman quits her job after she gets married and/or has kids
16:05 Criminal Proceedure, at this point Young-Woo is oblivious, because its not relevant to this case, Civil. Thats why shes lost when they ask for her help, and just give the requested information and realize they're mixing Civil and Criminal, and she has to be honest, because this is Young-Woo
An exploration about the family origin thing: Korea, each family has an origin from a different region. There can be two 'Kim's, but one was from the southern region and the other from the north, etc., and each family from a certain region is actually the same tribe/family (in the past they were tribes that formed one nation). In a country where the name is passed on through blood ties (the wife stays with her family name that she received from the father and doesn't take her husband's name) - family names symbolize where you came from and it means that you are supposedly relatives. Today this has less importance in general and in the eyes of the public itself in Korea, from time to time you can find someone who likes to indulge in hierarchy and genealogy, like that judge (also in the other episode before - he was interested in the family origin and his connection to the lawyer's father). There are also claims that since in the past only the noble families received the surnames, and their slaves received the same surname from them, so the whole thing is not really reliable and it is possible that most of the people are not related by blood because some of them were of course nobles and some were slaves.
Same in my country. not just for Married Couples who worked in the same company. Immediate family/relatives can't work together in some companies here in PH. Just like My Mom and Aunt in early 90's, Aunt was forced to resign in a factory. My brother and cousin in 2010's who worked in a Fast Food Chain, bro decided to leave and gave the chance to my cousin to stay working there before the Manager found out they are related. If you are blood related, you can't work together in the same company, unless you are good in hiding! LOL!
hey, I'm from Brazil, I'm studying English and I love kdramas, I'm obsessed with our reactions, please give a chance to kdrama little woman, it's amazing, i think you guys are gonna love it.
Definitely I think it’s illegal in South Korea. But our law related to discrimination is not strong. So the company tried to find alternative way to do what they want.
Like see the controrary though the same company whose employees has won almost all the cases with TRUE hardwork and compassion and also are really capable to be successful attorneys just because they sometimes work only and only for there clients disregarding the facts even after a successful win in the case cannot make any difference until and unless you fight for the truth and accept it when u are wrong
So there is a lawyer who are celebrated even after loss, and a lawyer who is threatened for life even after winning… again, a poetic contrast that this drama is all about
I love how you put it like that. You are so right.

While he keeps winning and she keeps losing, he pushes down his guilt about being on maybe the wrong side of things while she is lightweight because her morals are in line with her work.

These are real gem ! Really popular in Korea, they won a lot of awards and compare to some more popular kdramas overseas none of them have plot hole, bad written characters and such.
All 3 are really amazing !
You really know something
I just want to know something...some of these have a fair or "happy" ending?
If that stranger is the one I'm thinking of it would be a dream to have them react to it😆
리액션 항상 잘 보고 있습니다 다음 리액션도 기다립니다~
This is one of my favorite episodes.
잘 보고 있어요~
두 분 눈매가 너무 선해보여요
Attorney Jung is a dolphin in the aquarium,
Attorney Ryu is a wild dolphin.
외국사람들은 어떻게 느낄 지 궁금했는데 많은 도움 되었네요 ^^*
HAHA I SEE SOME COMMENTS THAT IT HAPPENED ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO IN KOREA. THAT'S VERY NAIVE. BECAUSE IT STILL HAPPENS IN KOREA EXPECIALLY FOR PREGNANT WOMEN.
That does not happen in Korea. If any corp do this at this moment, it would have legal issue. Do not do propaganda.
If you wanna urge, at least, you shouod prepare evidence. Is there any case?
You are typical CCP agent doing propaganda about gender issue to divide the country. Get back to your country Chinese.
@@kkoonn_ Oh, I know you. You are one of the men who called it a Feminazi drama, rignt?

Hi! I'm very glad to discover your channel. I enjoyed a lot how you guys have conversation after watching this episode. It was very thoughtful and inspiring. You got a new subscriber!😊
I heard that ep 1 to 8 focused more on case and trial, from ep 9 it's more about how Woo navigates her journey, both as a lawyer and an autistic person learning how to live in society where you have to interact with other people.
(just like you guys do!)
I hope you guys keep making good content like this!
기다렸어요 ㅠㅠㅠ
i've been waiting for this one thanks!
Please . Watch tomorrow to😍 it's an amazing drama🥰🥰
Wait, what's the punchline supposed to be here? 😶
@@thatfilmydesaikid I’m so young when I watched it in a movie, so I don’t remembered it exactly sorry.
Tonight is the day that episode 15 is finally aired.
I am very much looking forward to tomorrow.
I'm sorry it's the last episode~😭
They say season 2 is coming in 2024.
I'll be looking forward to
I hope you will watch and react to this interview of Park Eunbin. She goes deep into how she developed the character and also talks more about the show. It's overall a very insightful interview.

This case is also based on the real event, 20 years ago case.
This is a real world thing...I consulted with a big company and one VP was "in charge" of getting rid of people who had been there too long. She was one of the last to get fired...she was crying all the way out the door...no one had any pity for her.
Each episodes never disappoint.
I definitely think they should react to Vincenzo. Such a great and thrilling drama. One of the best kdramas I’ve seen.
love your reaction!!! I've also watched korean attorneys' reaction on this episode, and they said it's not uncommon for them that attorneys at large law firms get severely ill. so sad....
Even though Attorney Kwon is a bad guy, I really like him.
He's a character with a lot of layers.
@@thed3adgirlwalking Great point! He was so sure that it wasn't WYW...I also really wanted to see Dong Geu-Rami's initial reaction as well.
Yay! Finally 💕💕
And yes, gender discrimination is still very rampant in countries like South Korea and Japan. In Japan it’s almost a given that a woman quits her job after she gets married and/or has kids
진심이 느껴지는 리액션 감사합니다^^
I believe the episode being about karma and our attorney coughing blood at the end connects
Aah finally the episode is here 🥹
@Syntell GOOD NEWS! This drama has been officially confirmed to have a season 2! The main casts will reprise their roles & be back in 2024 🤘
진심있는 솔찍한 유쾌한 리뷰 감사합니다.
남성분은 멋지고 여성분은 너무 예쁘세요
When one says Woo Young Woo's name, the "W" is silent. Say "ooooo" rather than "woooo".
All this time I thought you two were in the same room
This episode is an adaptation of what happened during the 1997 IMF crisis in Korea. Please understand that there is a big gap with Korea now.
I thought i was going nuts, but it's a reupload of the 12 episode.
Kdrama trope lesson: Black baseball hat, black hoodie and black mask = presumed bad guy (though often its not).
FINALLY !! 😭😭
That car chase scene was definitely product placement lol.
Still the best show (other than Sandman) available at the moment.
You should react to Big mouth starring Lee Jung Suk and Yoon ah. Promise It won't disappoint you
I hoped that they would've react to the Kings affection, it has the same actress, the one who played as woo young woo
Is this a repost? I think i already saw this 2 days ago
리액션 중 최고!
재미있는 장면에 대한 당신들의 리액션이 더 보고 싶어요! 재미있는 장면이 많이 잘린 영상에 리액션하는것이 아쉬워서 좀더 긴 영상을 봐주세요^^
It’s not norm in KR nowadays, but that case actually happened in KR years ago. FYI, every episode from this drama was actual case in the past.
이번화에 사람들 호불호가 심하게 갈리는 이유가 거의 25년 전 일이기 때문임. 한 세대 전의 이야기인데 지금 그대로 가져다가 쓰니까 이상해지는 부분들이 많은 것임.
This week will be the last week for this drama 😭
Please watch and react to "Big Mouth" this kdrama is so good...I think this or EOAW will be the series of the year.
Finally!!❤❤
