I think this is the most impressive performance I've ever seen online. The human mind and ability is a beautiful creation. I simply cannot understand how the pianist can perform this without sheet music, all the while with impeccable timing and cues with the band.

This is the first video of Lola playing with an orchestra that I've seen. I was beginning to believe that she only "demos" with other artists eg. Hauser. So she is a legit artist!!
LIke athletes, she sacrificed and practiced for years as a young musician. There's nothing easy about her success. She deserves all credibility and respect.

This is a simply wonderful performance, by Lola, and the orchestra! I've been watching Lola's piano performance videos for about a year, and she is an outstanding pianist and musician. Lola has wonderfully strong fingers, great technique, fantastic posture, and plays with great dynamics and emotion. I can't even imagine the massive amount of time she must have invested in her life, to nurture the gift she has been given. The "icing" on the cake, is that she is also a very beautiful woman. I wish you all the best in life....Peace!

She certainly comes in for a lot of flack for her appearance and clothing choices.
She can't help being beautiful and what she wears is her choice entirely and hardly 'inappropriate'.
And neither detracts from her skill and talent. Her musical abilities cannot be denied.

Brilliant performance, i am amazed of her rare talent. Lola you are the best., in your hands this composition became back alive. This is exactly how Gershwin wanted us to hear this music. It's so lively and fresh, but also holds dramatic hues of those historic times when it was written. Very powerful performance. Want to hear it again and again. This music holds the spirit of Great Shalom Aleichem's stories and depicts hard lives of first US immigrants who came from Eastern Europe and Russia.

Once an artist reaches such a level of interpretation is entitled to choose the look she feels better in. Many videos of Lola playing solos in her own house or similar small environment on YT. The camera focus on her hands, legs, reinforced breasts, heavy make up, that often spoil the piano touch and skill she possess. But this one here is quite different. No glamour outfit, no camera indulgement on upper body, no zoom on her high-heels.... Only a pro among pros showing her special gift and providing a memorable performance of one of the top musical creations of the last century. Glad to see over a thousand positive comments have been published but I felt I should add my drop into the ocean...

Probably the most soul stirring piece of music that has ever been brought forth in human history. Not to say that there aren’t other magnificent pieces out there. But George Gershwin got everything right here. And all of the little melodies that interweave throughout constantly float us along like smoke wisping in a breeze - and then like waters going over Niagara. Beautiful, just absolutely beautiful.
I am always speechless how pianists manage to play the whole sheet by heart.
It's a different kind of memorization. After practicing the same piece for countless hours your fingers remember where to go.

A Band! As Gershwin demands. Terrific conductor, beautifully played by all. Yes, a wonderful contribution the clarinetist..and bravura performance by Ms Astanova. Kudos to the engineers, both audio and video.
We see the high heels 👠 and admire them but anyway for playing like she does and without looking any partitura , there are hard long years of practicing. I know . I love ❤️ love 💕 both the woman that received her gift of beauty and her hard work.
This piece is an extraordinary musical composition, wonderful musicians. Lola is literally shocking, for talent and infinite beauty, endowed with a non-human stylistic perfection. He interprets this prestigious composition loved by all, with magical hands that reproduce any act and mood of each portion of the piece. His splendid hands endowed with a world technique, it seems that they don't know instrumental and technical difficulties, but only the direct relationship between the soul, the music assimilated by a superior piano mind and the instrument, as an extension of her body. This video must be purchased, otherwise we may lose a unique document in the history of music. And then our queen of music is so perfect as a pianist that she deserves to be the most attractive and irresistible musician in the world, the whole world is always in love with her thanks to these concerts and her romanticism who in any case appears in every concert.

I watched and listened to her performance of Gershwin's beautiful Rhapsody in Blue I could not take my eyes of Lola Astonova. She is utterly a dream as she strolls to the piano in her high heels and glorious mini skirts. Yes this woman is quite something special.for a concert hall.

I agree. The clarinet/bass clarinet (Jon Manasse) played that portamento effect at the beginning with such ease. It was an awesome performance all together. I love how Gershwin incorporated saxophones into an orchestral setting, because rarely do we see saxophones (or euphoniums) play with symphony orchestras.
Absolutely. Often think that composors leaving Saxophones (and indeed Euphoniums for that matter) out of large orchestrated pieces is an odd thing to do. Be interested to know why these instruments are left out of classical pieces.
Because symphonies have been around longer than saxophones and euphoniums. Both instruments didn't show up until the 1840s. For example, Bach (1685-1750) and Mozart (1756-1791) started composing for symphonies before those instruments were invented. And the symphony instrumental norm seems to not include them because parts weren't written for instruments that didn’t exist at the time the composers wrote their pieces.

Just a quick note Kolinu2 ! The clarinetist is indeed very good ,But the king of this intro was the great Al Gallodoro ! In his career he played the intro over 10,000 times ,and was the original player of this great start. Al lived into his nineties, and played every weekend ! In his day he was the best ever ! He played the clarinet, alto sax, and the base clarinet. He was sometimes called the (Triple Threat) ! His main love was his gold plated Alto sax given to him a sax co. for his tremendous ability to play any type of music put in front of him !

I listened again and the music is fantastic. I never criticise musicians whatever genre of music they play.unless I can do it better, which means I never even critic. Have you noticed (thanks to RUclips) how many gorgeous musicians we have out there? Lola, Khatia, Anna, Nicola, Olga, Caroline, Anastasia, Alice - and the list goes on. I just don't have enough time to watch them and to listen to them. I love watching them - to me, music is not just an auditory experience. It is total. And some of them play magic jazz, too.

Very nice performance. The clarinetist is the best I have heard play this piece. Wow-.Lola does a decent job and is able to transcend into jazz mode perfectly which isnt always easy for an Eastern Bloc trained pianist. I presume this is the original orchestration ,I know there is another for a large conventional orchestra.
These studio musicians are fantastic . What a piece by Gershwin. And then there is Lola's imperious beauty that doesn't hurt either.
