Rite... i also feel ronin wil beat or atleast be equal with hunter in top end after 1st service... waitin fr race again between dis two after 1st service of ronin.
Being a Mechanical engineer and a designer in automotive field, I have following observations. I was looking for a family bike for city rides mostly with a flat (horizontal seat), circular headlamp and retro-like + premium design (not like 100-150cc bikes). After exploring lot of bikes, I finalized three options to compare. 1. Honda H'ness 350 CC 2. Royal Enfield Hunter Rebel 350 CC 3. TVS Ronin 225 CC I test drove all 3 vehicles 2-3 times and following are my observations, 1. Honda H'ness 350 CC - *Pros* - Nice retro/classic look, Low end torque is good, Seating space for pillion rider is more than other two vehicles. *Cons* - Bulkier (Box size), Paint quality, Higher cost as compared to other two vehicles 2. Royal Enfield Hunter Rebel 350 CC - *Pros* - Beautiful Design/Styling/Look, Great color schemes, Turning radius is smaller than Ronin (Less space to turn the vehicle), Reasonable cost. *Cons* - The biggest issue (design flaw) is positioning of foot rest (pegs), just below the sitting position. This makes it difficult to keep your feet on ground while you are at signal or in slow moving traffic. Foot rest (pegs) keep touching your legs and is very uncomfortable. Another point is that seat on rear end tapers downward and seating space for pillion rider being less, pillion rider tend to move back and when you accelerate, pillion may feel like toppling/falling down at back side. So this is not safe and hence, back rest is MUST. Handle bar positioned in such a way that you need to keep your hands stretched straight all the times which is not a comfortable sitting posture. Low end torque/performance (2 & 3 gear) is sluggish due to bigger engine. (Not as good as smaller capacity bikes) 3. TVS Ronin 225 CC - *Pros* - Semi-retro look with circular headlamp, Driveability and Performance is superb. Handle bar position is very good for comfortable sitting posture with hands slightly bent in elbows. Very easy to handle in traffic. *Cons* - Very bad design/aesthetics of fuel tank (some odd shape), Color schemes are odd (not impressive), Turning radius is higher than Hunter (Needs larger space to turn the vehicle). Cost is on higher side for lower CC as compared to Hunter (mainly due to features). Overall, none of them is meeting my requirements (as mentioned above) and hence, I decided to wait for Kawasaki W175 or Yamaha XSR or Improved version of Royal Enfield Hunter. All the best! Regards, Jayesh Shimpi
This was an insane review. I own a hunter 350 and my friend owns a Ronin, I have experience on both. And you are 100 percent right on the cons. Hunter posture + footpeg results in a weird rider triangle. Ronin turning radius is ridiculous for a short length bike. I went for the hunter because I was a fan of royal enfield classics, but I wouldn't be able to handle that big of a machine due to my height/weight. Keep up the good work sir, great review.
This is the exact opposite of what I thought would be the case... I thought RE will dominate in low and mid end... And Ronin might get ahead at top end.... But the result is totally opposite... Mind blowing
A higher displacement engine can have lower acceleration. Cruiser bikes are supposed to be comfort machines. They can have the top speed when needed, but in order to make the rider feel comfortable, it'll do that slowly. Plus, there's aerodynamics too. In this case, both bikes are cruisers. But the Ronin was tuned _for_ dealing with city traffic and maybe occasionally, a little off-roading. Hunter is totally made for the highway. On top of that, the Hunter has a long stroke transmission while the Ronin has a short stroke. Thus, the Hunter takes it's merry time to get as much top speed before it needs a gear shift, while the Ronin just rushes as fast as possible to get to it's topmost 'rev' and then beg for a shift. That's why the Ronin accelerates faster but misses out on top speed, but the Hunter gets to it's top speed while taking a bit more time to do so. This is also why air-cooled Royal Enfields are just horrible for city traffic! You need an oil or liquid cooled engine nowadays.
@@Farhan_049 You are exactly right.. The hunter might look sporty but the heavy clutch ,, long stroke engine with a heavy crankshaft is a cruiser engine.. perfect for country roads,,, It takes time to get to the rev limit where the 226cc Ronin engine with its light crank and shorter stroke gets to its redline really fast.. Cruiser engine vs sportier engine.. I wonder if RE revised the J series engine for the Hunter model with a lighter crank and maybe then a revised gearbox would have to be installed to make it more "sporty",, but that would probably drive up development cost ,, cheaper to just use the same stable engine in numerous models,, (Hunter Meteor, Classic 350 and soon the Bullet),, i bet when the Hunter comes to Europe/US with a lower baseprice than the Meteor,, performance mods will soon be available..
@@andersbarfodsvaneskolan9378 Even then, I'm actually gonna ask you to steer away from any air-cooled Royal Enfield. I've got people who have Royal Enfields and they say they kind of regret buying them. My city has paralleled roads 80% of the time. 15% of the time, you'll find yourself stuck in traffic because of idiots with licenses, and the remaining 5% are potholes because the locals don't press the authorities for repairs!🤦🏻♂️ As a result, a lot of Himalayan and Meteor buyers, heck even Classic and Bullet riders, complain about scalded calves! Royal Enfields have good engines, no doubt, but they either have ridiculously inefficient cooling systems or my city's traffic pattern and quality are unsuitable for their bikes! As far as I know, I haven't heard any such heat issues with Honda CB350 bikes and other oil/liquid cooled bikes. And the Yamaha FZ or FZ-S 25 absolutely doesn't heat up at all; it's probably the best for our roads, but not so good for the pillion's butt! Go for bikes with some better cooling tech. I'd rather spend extra for good safety and comfort than anything else.
@@vishaldas4602 If you're talking about the Zepplin R, it'll take time. Maybe next year, but I highly doubt that they'd launch it so soon. First, TVS will launch the rumoured Apache RTR 310 - a rebranded version of the BMW G310R. If it's the Ronin specifically, I don't think version 2.0 will come just next year. Plus, the Ronin TD to me seems absolutely perfect!
100% RE does a bad job here. In day to day life none gonna use the full throttle unless you are in a highway and going to a long distance. Even if that is the case, full throttle for long time will seriously damage the machine. So max 100kmph is better idea. In cities you will be riding in 40-60 kmph speed and you only accelerate when you want to overtake a vehicle quickly to avoid vehicle coming in opposite direction. For that Ronin is better machine than RE.
