As a trucker myself yes this happens. Nothing new. Your either solo or team. Ive done both. Team usually pays more. In America the trucks are bigger. I have seen trucks bigger than someone's house, inside is full of luxury like rolls Royce/Bentley of truck it's so crazy that they can built a home inside a truck and still have plenty of place left for goods for shipment
American trucks are bigger my ass ! I'm a Aussie triple road train driver. American truck chassis are to week for our demands. Come to Australia and drive a man's truck !
They probably own their own truck, in which case they are getting paid by the deliveries not per hour. So they can easily make twice as much money with two people driving, since a single truck driver would have to stop to sleep.
Freight broker here: They are team drivers. Very good for long haul freight. (In the US) DOT standards allow for more travel and longer routes to team drivers for obvious reasons. Truckers literally deliver nearly everything we have. Make sure to show those acting responsibility respect on the road. They put immense stress on their mind, body, and soul just to ensure the economy stays moving. Without them, it would quite literally fall apart. Show truckers love when you can!

I did this. It’s actually nice to have someone on the truck with you even if they’re asleep. Guess just their presence makes the experience a little better.
sleeping in a moving truck can be a pain. I had one team member throw me out of the bunk all the way up to the shifter because he was following to close and had to slam on the brakes.
This happens with local trucking here, groceries and all that come 75% from big city 6-7 hours away. Usually, one of them drives one way, and the other drives the other way

That's really sweet. Truck drivers are like the heart of how the world stays running. They're ultimately how we're all able to get our food and supplies. They're underappreciated! (And same with farmers!) Truckers also go days to weeks without seeing their families so it's cool to see this couple figure it out and even have a doggo pal too [hopefully doggo gets space and playtime often!].

When my husband did OTR I was on his forms as a passenger but I get nauseous in an 18 wheeler so I never went with him.

Guys, please don't idealize companies working you to the bone like this. These people are stuck together in a tiny cab with no way to distance themselves from their work after hours, have their hours extended by taking shifts instead of cut short as they're now expected to just keep driving and never stop, have no quality time together, and look miserable. All the while their bosses are lounging around at dinner "meetings." They're being taken advantage of and doing their best to cope, not "living the dream."
