It actually just washes off with soap because soap molecules are like a bridge between water and the sticky oily substances that trap aerosol particles on your skin. One end of the soap molecule grabs the oil or germs, while the other end grabs the water, allowing the particles to be lifted off and rinsed

He did that as a test. Of course when he wants to get washed he won't cover himself with that. Because hydrophobic aerogel particles are intensely water-repellent, they often require soap, oils, or physical friction to remove from skin rather than just water. Use warm, soapy water (specifically Dawn dish soap) to break down the water-repellent coating. Rub gently with a cloth or washcloth to remove the particles.
