Very good animation and explanation. The term DIS does generally refer to systems where two cylinders (the companion cylinders) share a coil. The first animations are technically for a COP/CNP (Coil On Plug or Coil Near Plug) system. Also, it is not 100% correct to say that the current travels through one plug, the engine block, then the other plug. The plug with the lowest ionizing voltage requirement will fire first. In other words, the plug that is in the cylinder on the exhaust stroke will fire first.
Amazing I'm going to increase my spark on my LS engine bye swapping to bigger coils but I wanted to know how it works amazing this is great thank you..
that's one way. you can also open up the spark gap. doing both of those and adding resistorless plugs and zero resistance wire is the ultimate for spark ignition and get you nicely set up for plasma
amazing vedio boss but it will b better from next vedio try to change the annoying music tunes but how ever its v.helpful vedio -royal diesel engineers-
Direct injection is the fuel delivery system where the fuel mixture is injected directly into the combustion chamber. Waste spark is an ignition function...
+Automotive Basics I am an Automotive engineering student I find your videos very helpful in my studies. Can you also make a video on how CVT-i gearbox works?
Such an informative video without any narration is really difficult and tiring to understand.Would have been a best video if there was narration with clear voice.
I have a query: On 4:32 is shown that the current flows through the HT cable to the event cylinder's spark plug. Since the HT cable of the waste cylinder's spark plug is attached to the same coil, why current is not flowing through it simultaneously?
Cool video. I do have a question; what cars use a wasted spark system? The only application I can come up with on top of my head is Harley Davidson motorcycles.
ECU do the task. It determines ignition timing based on the position of crankshaft and camshaft determined by the ICM. To be precise, the spark plug does not sense the TDC. Instead, ECU 'sense' it. Hope this helps you.
what is a conventional ignition system because you have told that direct ignition system uses single coil pack per plug but then you showed that direct ignition in V block engine having 2 plugs per pack. Please explain.
+terrencew49 no they aren't the same, the ECU controls many functions on the car. The ICU only controls the timing on the when to make the spark plug ignite
+MrHighpressure my 2000 camaro ss has Direct Injection System that is not wasted spark, so no...when u open the hood u can see each coil pack for each cylinder it's pretty cool. i never knew what those were till i watched this video. i honestly never knew how ignition systems worked at all till i started watching videos here on youtube today
+Ben quinn - My 2003 Ford Windstar and my landlord's 2003 Dodge Caravan both use the waste spark method. Both vehicles have high mileage and they don't seem to wear out spark plugs any faster than older vehicles we've had that used conventional ignition systems. The spark itself exposes the plug electrodes to just a tiny amount of energy compared to the cylinder firings so why would the waste spark shorten plug life? The Caravan still has the original coil pack. The Windstar had the coil pack replaced, but the failure was heat and age related. When the engine started misfiring under high torque loads a simple visual inspection identified the coil pack as the defective component.

I FINALLY UNDERSTAND IT ALL!!! I LOVE THIS VIDEO THANK YOU
Excellent as usual. You should do one on alternators.
It's anazing how simple physics principles can create such delicate but effective engineering products.
Hi, I am an Arab and I do not know English, but I understand and benefit greatly thank you
Why are you not posting videos? Your explanation is fully understandable. Please don't stop your educative videos. Please remind.
Please. *Make more. I loved it when i was 8 or something like that.*
the best tutorial automobile engineering you tube .
Excellent animation, which vastly improves understanding of the basics. Thanks a lot..!! :)
Nice!! to understand through video coverage & more clarity.
Very helpful and important video. Nice animation. Great Work. Easy to understand.
Fantastic animation; the best in the business. Thank you.
Even the DIS system is old. For quite awhile now, new cars use Coil On Plugs(COP). The coil is mounted on top of each sparkplug.
+Richard's World a coil on plug system is still a distributorless one.... i hope you knew it before i told you....
This song induces learning. Great video!
very good illustration of complex system in easy way
Thank you for represented this topic..and very nice to make this video...well done ...
Colombia mil gracias por su información por compartir sus conocimientos escuchar opiniones profesionales éxitos amigos.............
I'm studying engineering mechanics and i interested in car, machine, ... this vid is very helpful
your videos very useful video and you explain very easily
thx for making the video
please make new videos for mechanical engineering
Great animation. Thanks!
@ 3:30, the cylinder pairs are color coded, but the text is a different color - swap green and blue text
Great videos
It would be great if you make an animation on Direct fuel injection system. Great work btw!
wonderful video, thanks
Finally I got it, thx for making this for us.

nice song and nice explanation
plz upld other automobile lessons its very hlpfull
its fun learning with a melody song.......

Great video. I feel like i used 20 minuits instead of going a 2 years college 😁😁
Thank you for the information!
Hemm..finally I think I'm understood how they work.
Love your videos
Direct injection is the fuel delivery system where the fuel mixture is injected directly into the combustion chamber. Waste spark is an ignition function...
Patrick Simmons waste spark is one coil firing two plugs. one cylinder is on compression and the other cylinder in on exhaust

I am an Automotive engineering student I find your videos very helpful in my studies. Can you also make a video on how CVT-i gearbox works?
Have you graduated yet ?
i finally understand my jts and its misfires
good explanation AT-204
perfect demonstration !! but why this kind of sound track ???
Such an informative video without any narration is really difficult and tiring to understand.Would have been a best video if there was narration with clear voice.
the song excites me. :D
OI VEY TIMES 10!!!
i replayed just for it
Well done
thank you very much indeed useful
hey, it was great. Thanks.
what is tha process of saving the video in fon SD card
please riply
Thank you very much...
sir I want to make animation video like you please tell me which software are using?
yah very good informations
Commentary is better than distracting music...
Great job with every video. A voice would not be as clear and precise as the written word.
Is there no harm to touch the engine while running ?
I have a query: On 4:32 is shown that the current flows through the HT cable to the event cylinder's spark plug. Since the HT cable of the waste cylinder's spark plug is attached to the same coil, why current is not flowing through it simultaneously?
+Γιώργος Αγγελόπουλος i think it does happen, its only showing one half of what is happening... good question though... not sure
Cool video. I do have a question; what cars use a wasted spark system? The only application I can come up with on top of my head is Harley Davidson motorcycles.
most gm v6 in Australia all commodores from 90 to 07 Daewoo Hyundai ect all the cheap cars
Trades46 fords and gm's in the late 90's and early to mid 2000's
+Trades46 yea basically grandma cars cause they don't put that worse method in the better cars like high end sports cars
I couldn't understand how each spark senses TDC of shafts.Could you help me in other way?
ECU do the task. It determines ignition timing based on the position of crankshaft and camshaft determined by the ICM. To be precise, the spark plug does not sense the TDC. Instead, ECU 'sense' it. Hope this helps you.

Excellent illistrations and descriptions but I had to switch off the sound as it was unecessary and served only to distract my thoughts.
nigel clark damnnnn .. true 😁🤘
I need to know how throttle work please
yea but how does the coil pack know which coil to fire? only 4 wires...
More videos please!
damn the music is satisfying, TELL ME, WHAT IS THE MUSIC!!???!
thank you very msch
What software to simulate this systerm ?
What music is this..anyone?

Great
But isn't there a shaft connected to distributor
What ICM means, IS it the same as the ECU?
terrencew49 ICM ignition control module ECU engine control unit or electronic control unit
+terrencew49 no they aren't the same, the ECU controls many functions on the car. The ICU only controls the timing on the when to make the spark plug ignite
The song like a cowboy song
