I have a cutter exactly like this which I bought. I attached a guitar string to one side with a duffel coat type button on the end. Instead of a knife I pull this right down the guide part to cut my soap. It's perfect. It cut cleanly and it doesn't matter if the soap is sticky. It also cuts cured soap easily too. It makes all the difference
Made it to measure according to my favorite molds. Used a single pallet plank that I have sanded beautifully smooth. It cost me the price of some nails, because I did not have enough. Now to make some serious soap!!!!
Here's a tip that might help you... if you spray your knife with some rubbing alcohol (91% evaporates faster) in between each bar - the knife will glide right through... Another tip - if you use a potato peeler after about 3-4 weeks, you can make beveled edges - it helps polish up the finished bars for sale...
Wow you are a Professional Carpenter like my Papa - Good for Slicing the Handmade Soaps ( You should be making & selling online the Soap Cutters too) Awesome Herbs aroma that should be beautiful in every handmade Soaps. I am gonna make one 60cm long and 15cm wide so I can slide & cut me soaps which I will be using Kitchen drawers H40cm x L39cm x W14cm
Hi Troy, just 2 observations from me. Firstly, why not continue the slots all the way to the end of the cutter, instead of only two slots? Secondly, if the bar is sticky why not just pull the knife out towards you, instead of lifting it every time? Job well done though!!
Thanks for the video. This is one of the designs that I have had in mind to build but can't decide whether to do this or the one with guitar strings to cut more at a time. I should maybe start with this design since it really looks easy to do. It is always nice to see something done first. How has the selling been going for you. I would like to sell but I don't think I would sell enough to pay for the insurance and all that stuff. What do you use for coloran? I will see if I can find some of your videos. Thanks again.
How about placing the sides one inch back from the stop to avoid having to slice the wood? I suppose outer edge of the sides could help make straight cuts.
I think I would have lacquered it for ease of cleaning. If you're selling your soap you gotta clean the residue from the last batch off thoroughly. Someone with a severe allergy could be seriously harmed if they come into contact with that allergen from it transferring to the soap they bought, that should have been save for them. I've seen it. No I'm not a doctor, but I am a nurse, for 28years.
And herb infusion as you stated in the video, which is what I based my comment on. We had a patient who was permanently brain damaged from lack of oxygen when her throat became swollen shut, simply because the chef at a restaurant was too lazy to remake her food after putting a mint leaf garnish on the plate. Instead he just removed it and sent the plate back out. That mint barely touched the food and it almost killed her. Perhaps I should have given this example in my initial comment. I wasn't thinking of just the person who may be harmed, but also of you. Could you live with yourself if you accidentally maimed or killed someone because you simply didn't clean your soap cutter?
Most of the lacquers are pretty toxic. A piece of parchment paper, or a reusable, thin piece of cutting mat can be use on he bottom, as the soap doesn't really touch the sides.
My husband deems me as useless when it comes to building anyting😒 honestly, not my department, lol I make soap instead.. with this tutorial tho, imma show him who's handy... and if it doesn't work out I'll have my hubby watch this video.. lol ty for sharing!
Wire cutting will let you cut the soap and it will not stick like the knife. Also you might want to get a recipe for shaving soap to sell. Market was good for selling at one time.
Super nice troy hay on that site I filled out the pass word they send me the say retype to confirm it so I did its saying does not match I got approved no issue there I tried 10 different pass words they give me I put it in send it said does not match spend all day trying to get it to work even ask many pass words nothing works u have any idea what I should do ?
This was a good instructive video. Thank you. You should try watching Tiny Notes From Home they used to be Sounds Like Reign. They have many money saving ideas and a great recipe for laundry soap. I really think you would like them and what they have to say . You and your girls have a great day.
If it were me..........I wouldn’t invest to much money until I saw if it was gonna sell good. At 64 I’m ain’t giving up my “oil of Olay” soap.. I got wrinkles everywhere.
zeMonkey When your birthday? I have a bunch of bananas that are ready for you. Ha Ha I hope your MOMMY does not see this. She will make you fix your own bananas food.
Seems so. They must be losing money now too since they block every 2nd one of my videos and I have to ask for a manual review which takes 24 to 48 hours. By that time the video has played its course and people are on to the next video.

Thank you for sharing!
Muito bom parabens.
Thanks for sharing. I am making one now
I use a taping knife, handle is on top and easier to push.
How about placing the sides one inch back from the stop to avoid having to slice the wood? I suppose outer edge of the sides could help make straight cuts.
Nice job Troy, good luck
Thank you

Its a Mitre box...for cutting soap..:)

Only thing in my soap is oil, lye and water.

@@GrapeApe2018 I think that your tip to add a finish (such as lacquer, as you suggested) that is easy to wash is very practical. Thank you.

Nice! Cool informative video. Thanks Troy :)
Got to say a cheese wire instead of a knife ... Tried and tested for years and years and years...
My husband deems me as useless when it comes to building anyting😒 honestly, not my department, lol I make soap instead.. with this tutorial tho, imma show him who's handy... and if it doesn't work out I'll have my hubby watch this video.. lol ty for sharing!
SO WHO BUILT IT?
THE SUSPENSE IS KILLING US
Hello,Do u have vídeo how u make u own soap🤔🙌🙌.?
ruclips.net/video/Qevq073tjxg/видео.html&lc=Ugxw9pdIRAa3R1jcY-94AaABAg
Great idea!
What did you pour the soap into to make the large bar? Looks like a bread loaf pan.
I have a bread loaf pan and a proper soap form
Thank you👍
Oh, both silicone. Important point.
Thank you. That's a great project.
This is nice then
Wire cutting will let you cut the soap and it will not stick like the knife. Also you might want to get a recipe for shaving soap to sell. Market was good for selling at one time.
Cool. Thanks
Someone sure stirred the trolls! LOL! Many Blessing!!
It makes me wonder why soap cutters are so dam expensive

Great demonstration. Will be looking forward to seeing cutting of a cured loaf of soap. Good luck with the soap sales. :-)
+Sandra Jones thank you
Cool, gonna make this.
Nice!

Free if you have the materials and tools. It isn't free.....
Its easy to ask around and find things or get help from friends and neighbors. Free is quite possible here.
Do you use canola oil in all your soap? It is a GMO oil and many people avoid it. Cheap is not always best for your health.
I dont touch that stuff for anything at all
dovetail it's easy and stronger
Dont currently have the equipment for that tho.
Interesting how there are two comments almost exactly the same offering discouragement... LOL. My daughter and I LOVE our locally made artisan soap.
That is a very broad statement insulting everyone who works with wood. And sort of insulting everyone with down syndrome. Its not funny really.
After using homemade soap many years ago I wont use anything else. Its great for laundry too.
You know what type of people who make ignorant comments about special needs? GUTLESS PEOPLE DO NOT DESERVE TO BREATHE!!
Nancy Smith 👍🏼😊
Hey zemonkey Why insult anybody? Are you that Jealous of anybody that works with wood?
If it were me..........I wouldn’t invest to much money until I saw if it was gonna sell good. At 64 I’m ain’t giving up my “oil of Olay” soap.. I got wrinkles everywhere.

*Really RUclips???? You have banned this video from advertising???*
They never tell you.
Was that a pun? I did laugh. Soap.
:)

And that is part of the reason I am on steemit right now. It looks like a really good second income.
👍🏼
I wasn't being discouraging. I was trying to be logical. Before you invest a lot of money see what flavor soaps sell best.
Keep your eyes open for a large wire cheese cutter at yard sales. It might cut better than that large knife for you.
+MotherOfManyHorses maybe. Thanks
I don't think sandpaper will help me.
Are you bow hunting at all ???
Not this year
Troy this Giles any way I tried many pass words all its telling is does not match no what
That soap looks like cheese lol.
Tastes like soap
