If I could travel back in time.. it would be to Epcot in the 80's. It was a completely magical place.I miss the original Journey into Imagination with Dreamfinder and Figment... and Horizons and the World of Motion. So many great memories!!
Had the pleasure of being part of Epcot Center's opening crew - A fantastic thing to have been a part of. Will always hold special memories for me, despite how much it's been butchered since.
As a kid I went the year after it first opened. I remember being mesmerized by Horizons and world of motion. How oh how were they replaced with the snooze fest that is test track and mission to Mars, people nowadays are really missing out
11:47 the Japanese Castle was originally intended to be home to Meet the World-An Audio Animatronics/Carousel Theater show that told the history of Japan was going to open the same time as it's counterpart in Tokyo Disneyland.
I visited there with a friend of mine for the first time in January of '83 when it was still pretty new. I remember the sense of awe I had and how it was a wonderful time in my life to be young and alive
I remember all of it as a bowl haircut kid. I remember the guy at China making a caramel swan and then giving it to me.. God bless em. I remember all of the 2nd floor figment area with the pin tables and being in those fun little movies they'd do. I remember the buses. I remember my dad always saying, "The fall of Rome" once we smelt bacon in the "golf ball". I remember the lagoon dragon boats. I remember burgers at The Odyssey. I remember Dreamfinder and Figment messing with my hair. I remember talking to SMRT-1. I remember the rollercoaster builder beaver. I remember ALL of Communicore, East and West. And I remember never wanting to be at E.P.C.O.T. Center, because we were already so close to Magic Kingdom lol. When Wonders of Life came around, the first thing I wanted to do was ride the treadmills there that had mildly interactive Magic Kingdom footage in the bikes lol. But above all this amazement, I remember my dad, who gave me such happy cherished memeories. He loved "The Tiki Birds".
I initially couldn’t understand what bank building the narrator was comparing Spaceship Earth to. I used the closed captioning option which transcribed it as Three-Port State Bank, which was obviously wrong. I then deduced that he was probably saying “Freeport State Bank.” I searched on Googled and found that there is a building formerly known as the Freeport State Bank Building in Freeport, IL. Freeport State Bank eventually became U.S. Bank and the building became the U.S. Bank Building before assuming its current name, The Stewart Centre. The Stewart Centre in Freeport is 12 stories tall and is located at 50 West Douglas Street, Freeport, IL. I wonder if the narrator was a professor at Highland Community College in Freeport since he compared the height of Spaceship Earth to the Freeport State Bank Building. That seems like such an odd and obscure comparison unless he was intending to show this film to an audience local to Freeport.
Thank you. It brings back a lot of great memories. My parents, sister and I (all adults at the time) went to WDW for the first time in early June of "84 and returned one year later. We stayed at the Club Lake Villas. We loved everything, except the heat which stopped us dead in our tracks leaving the airport interior to step into a cab. While EPCOT Center was easily our favorite, at the Villas we would take the golf cart to the WDW Village Marketplace which became an attraction ride in itself.
This guy was ahead of his time he was a RUclipsr before there was youtube!!!! I remember going here when I was little in the late 80s and early 90s all the memories of the rides will never see this again. Sooo magical
Man, those 80s shorts......I remember those days showing so much leg as a teenage boy ! Ha, seeing it today, looks like we were wearing Hot Pants from the old Southwest Airlines flight attendants.
This is amazing video, and very well restored! Thank you for posting!! I've got a little bit of old footage on my channel, but not nearly as well restored as yours!!
I'm so glad to be watching this sine I was born in 1982 By the time I was 3, it was my first and so far only trip to disneyworld. I will be going to visit again soon. Hope EPCOT has a 40 yr celebration next yr
I just got really sad when I saw the sign for Alfredo's restaurant in the Italy pavilion. The original and best fettuccine Alfredo I have ever had. Now replaced by a cheap impostor restaurant thanks to the Disney dining plan.
I’m going to take my aunt to EPCOT next Sunday. It’s gonna be her first time going to this particular park and I cannot wait to see what she thinks of it
The one person who disliked this video thinks that removing Universe of Energy for a Guardians of the Galaxy ride and replacing Maelstrom with a Frozen ride, was a good idea.
This is great! Thanks for making this available! Somehow I never knew that the colors in the Rainbow Tunnel in Imagination MOVED! 0.0 That's awesome! I like how the cameraman focuses in on the little diorama in the UK, and makes a point of highlighting all the strange meet and greet characters (I didn't realize they blinked! Thing no. 2 learned from this video). (Also, poor guy thinking Impressions was another restaurant...)
This guy has done some seripius traveling. It's amsot as if World Showcase is just a mini version of his reliving his wotrld travels. I wonder if he knew or knows the gift he gave the world with this great video. Seems like he would hsve done well in the RUclips age.
The color restoration is great! BUT the jello-like "stabilization" drives me crazy. I wonder if it's part of the original film conversion or was introduced in the restoration?
I may be wrong, but 8mm and 16mm had the "holes" on the side of the film (16mm had them on both sides if it had sound, but 8mm only had holes on one side even if it did have sound.) that are what kept it aligned as it got fed through the projector. (I only had 8mm camera and projector.) Over time with age and sometimes from a lot of use the holes would become worn and the film would be a bit "loose" and cause the picture to either jump or be wavy like this when it was run. I have a few older 8mm films that got ruined by family members that tried to play them on their Super 8 projectors. Ugh and Grrrr....LOL :~) ruclips.net/video/QBo0EDhjX14/видео.html This is a 16mm Sound film restoration that RetroWDW did and it is not wavy/watery like this one was, but the color is not as rich as this one is.
Was this filmed two different years? He said it was two different days. The boats change. I know the friendship boats had trouble and did not always work. Any explanation? Same day two different boats, or different day or year?
Very true. People dress very low-brow today. Like bums. And, thanks to the alcohol sold now, often act like trash. Disney World is much less classy than it once was because people are much less classy.
kona1967 And children were able to walk back then too. Absolutely amazing. Americans should be ashamed that they aren't able to walk a few miles per day. Reminds me of line from Animal House"stupid, fat and lazy is no way to go through life, son"
You know it is hard to believe epcot has been open for 40 years.I did not care for the park back then, But as time went on over the years Epcot made some epic changes. The rides became much better. The Food and entertainment got better as the years went on aswell. From the 80s. 90s. 2000S. Had many decades of massive improvements. Today i would not even bother, The limited guest in the park per day. You have to schudule your day with your ticket, Wait times even longer die to the new fast pass system which you have to pay for, The smoking restrictions on all the parks. Now you have to pay for parking, Hotel Guest have 0 smokinmg rooms. No smoking Areas. Increased prices to get the Middle Class and poor out of there parks. Throwing Customers out with no investigations. No more shuttle the air port to Disney Hotel Rooms. If i missed anything let me know. Just leave a reply

I'm a Florida Native and my 1st time going to Walt Disney World was in 1973 and we stayed at the Polynesian Resort for 3 days. I went several times every single year and then when Annual Passes came out, I got mine every year up until 2009. Haven't been since January of 2010. No longer the same "Disney" parks that "I" use to enjoy.
@@PriestsandParamedics I still disagree with it. Thats the same thing as buying a painting that isnt present online and putting a watermark on the scan.
@@ZiggyCashmere But that's not what you said. You said "stop putting your watermark on footage you do not own." They own it. Whether or not you or I like it, they own it and can/will do whatever they want with it and haven't asked our opinion.
This must be some kind of exaggeration. Nothing can be this modern and able to show all this. I think the tourism people there are overselling the experience.

THIS. My first time was 1984 when I was 11 yrs old and it became my favorite park.
Bless whoever filmed this back in 1982, seemingly for themselves alone. No youtube back then.
On 16mm film no less!

thats so amazing!

As a kid I went the year after it first opened. I remember being mesmerized by Horizons and world of motion. How oh how were they replaced with the snooze fest that is test track and mission to Mars, people nowadays are really missing out
I love historical footage, it's like going back in time. I remember hearing about this when it opened, but I never had a chance to go there.
Alan Linnell it was an amazing experience. I was there on day one.
Great footage of the Rainbow Tunnel! They should totally bring that back.
I remember the rainbow 🌈 tunnel i have a picture of me there that was taken when I was 3yrs old
Apparently it is still intact, or so I've read. Behind the wall of the DVC lounge

It’s like one of the first Disney parks vlogs! Incredible! 🙌

Joe Smith That’s because was done on 16mm film, probably Kodachrome. The guy must have had a nice movie camera too with good lenses.

probably well stored all these years

The food is actually better, now. It looks much the same inside, too.
Horizons did not exist in 1982. The film is from either very late 1982 or was made in 83’ prior to horizons open8ng
it was probably under construction
