Great video. This is also one of my favourites from ST. The kaoss/whammy solo is just too “Matt Bellamy” for anyone to recreate 100% accurately. Great idea to use the KP! I read that Matt achieves the sound by scratching the strings and using the XY midi pad connected to a whammy set from +1 to -1. Somehow, he has it so that the signal is cut when not pressing the pad, and is live when pressing. Muse wiki shows he had a new guitar build precisely for this so it can happen all on-board but is yet to be seen live
George Smart yeah you’re right. It’s a bit tricky to recreate for us mere mortals. But I think there’s a little more to it than what’s on the internet. I’ve seen the link already, but thanks though. I’ve got a few other ways of playing the solo but I really like using the kaoss pad as I do. With songs like this that are pretty ambiguous, you can play the solo however you want to really. Don’t need a kaoss pad. Could be with a fuzz factory and a kill switch, feedback sounds with a delay pedal. Or a traditional guitar solo approach.
Harrychrisrobin absolutely agree! It’s your cover - it’s for you to interpret in your own way. And the KP is a neat way to do it. Look forward to more sounds like!
just a tip for the solo.... put a fuzz or distortion before the Kaoss pad and it will make that preset sound MUCH better and far closer to the sound that matt gets... if you want to get into the details add a mute to the signal path so it mutes when the kaoss pad isnt touched which will allow you to do the pick scrapes he does live... then if you want to get really into the detail add the whammy sweeping from -1 to +1 octave to be controlled by the xy screen and then you're set!
Ross Gerry ok so I do add distortion effects to the kaoss pad synth effect I use, the sound on its on is quite weak. There is also a gate on the kaoss pad as well to help cut unwanted sounds. In a lot of these videos I say this is my interpretation of many muse songs. The solo sound on the record is quite ambiguous and very much open to interpretation. I don’t have the ability to recreate Matt sound like for like. The xy controller can not control presets on the whammy so it wouldn’t allow me to sweet between an octave up and down at the same time.
@@harrychrisrobin best way is to just have a fuzz/distortion pedal before the kaoss in your fx chain (however you make that work) i've got mine in the fx loop of my line 6 helix so i just switch in some distortion before kaoss pad... try it out you'll find it fattens it right up! the way i've done the whammy/mute bit is to have the xy pad control 3 things at once, the kaoss pad like normal, a volume block on my helix which toggles on and off a mute and then a whammy preset also in my helix which sweeps from -1 to +1... appreciate thats not all achievable without a helix though haha! to be honest just the distorted kaoss sound will make a huge difference to the quality of that particular patch :)
Ross Gerry I get what you’re saying. But what I feel you’re missing is that I do have distortion on the kaoss pad. You can see it for yourself on my cover of the song when there is the original song along with what I’m playing. I pulled in the clip of me playing the solo without the original song purely for a demonstration purpose. There is a video on my channel where I discuss how I interpreted the kaoss pad into my rig and how I apply effects to it separately from my pedalboard for a much clearer tone
albervalen22 I have an older video on here about my pedalboard. But I have a new effects switcher which has changed a few things. But mainly it’s, whammy, distortions and fuzz’s, modulation and delay
I was searching for the new song the glove by Matt Bellamy, and this video is suggest by YT. Watched it, liking it very much & subscribing... Good job.
This was one of my favourites songs from sim theory
same here, it flows so well and I love the feel to it

Here’s the link if you’re interested. Blows my mind how they come up with these ideas! 😃

George Smart cheers bud I really appreciate it. I had a thought where I could do a video on a few ways on playing the solo. What do you think to that?

Great video! Just wanna know, what BPM did you set your KP2 at? Did you just go with the BPM of the song or something else? :)
Hi, great as always. I wanted to know where you put the phaser in the chain? Before or after the distortions?
albervalen22 great question. Modulation always goes at the end for me. Though I don’t use a phaser for this song
@@harrychrisrobin I know you don't use phaser in this song, but the more I look at your pedal board the more questions I get
albervalen22 ahhh fair enough. What else do you want to know?
@@harrychrisrobin The whole chain of effects, which before and which after

Thank you so very much I really appreciate that. I hope you’ll stick around for future videos mate!
E Standard with the E dropped to B😂 Drop B is like BF#BEG#C#
That B standard I think, drop B would be badgbe right?
Louie No, that’s not how that works. It’s C# standard with the B dropped
@@jmelara324 OK, sorry I'm not very good with different tunings
Louie the tuning for the song is BADGBe though
