Thank You for the info. My son is currently at Fort Greg Adams/Delta Company, arrived less than a week ago. Your information was very helpful. Thanks again Darrell.
Thanks for making this video, I leave for basic on October 23rd as a 91B. I'm glad to be able to know what the AIT will be like there once I'm done with basic
Mechanic school used to be at Ft Leonard Wood MO. Tests were open book when i went through back in 1992. We slept in open bays. You guys have it nice now. Yes, I'm ancient. And yes we had cars back then. 🤣
Thank you so much for all the info. As a parent, your info helped us alot. I thought it was all school not more physical action. My SIT came from Ft. Jackson.
I’m about to leave for basic here in 10 days for Ft Jackson then heading to lee (91B) this video definitely made me feel a lot better about AIT thanks man
In 1990 they locked the post down. We arrived on post they took our civies from us. Told us they use to be known as Ft. Leisure and now their known as Ft. Lockup! I was in Mike Co, but staying in Lima barracks’s, 76C10.
Thanks for posting, darrell hunzinger . This gave me more insight of what my grandson went through there at Ft.Lee at about the same time you posted this video
holy hell i had a wall locker and a bunk, shared a bay with 7 other joes, shared a latrine and showers with the rest of the platoon...yall had it made lol
I was qualified for this mos but I had no knowledge of mechanical stuff. My recruiter kept assuring me that they would teach me at school lol luckily I didn’t pick this job. It would be terrible to be recycled to another job.
Your recruiter is a dumbass AND a dickhead because this is one of the single biggest issues I have with them recruiting new soldiers into this MOS, they assume anybody that scores high enough on that bullshit test with no mechanical knowledge or background can do it an sadly that is NOT the case. If you think AIT is going to prepare you for this MOS you are sadly mistaken, you have to want to do it and you have to want to learn it, plain and simple.
@@Nick7380 true story. I went through the Marines version of Motor T mechanic school with zero knowledge and had a rough time. Real knowledge comes when you are in the fleet.
Stephen Kapowski this comment does so much for me at the moment. Thank you man. I got high line scores and my recruiter keeps telling me... “They’ll teach you, you’ll pass” for fucking heli repair 😂😂😂!! Infantry is what I really want and it’s what I’m going to choose for sure now
thanks for this. just a couple of question, how much civilian clothes did you bring with you? also, did you bring your laptop own purchase one from there? thanks so much.
I brought 3 sets of civilian clothes with me. And yes I brought my own laptop. I suggest not buying one while your here because they are more expensive
Do you reccomended this mos to someone doesnt have any wheeled mechanic background? I am intereted to sign up for this i just dont have a background about it i just wanna learn it and do this mos
Honestly no, but if you want to do it and are passionate about it you CAN succeed it just depends on how much you are willing to put into it like any other MOS.
Went through motor t mechanic school in the Marines with ZERO knowledge and flunked out the first time through. Got re classed and passed the second time and even became class leader.
Hey! Thanks for a great video! I was wondering if you could tell me how much you got to use your phone and if you or anyone with your MOS got a weekend pass or a chance to see family members. Thank you (:
So I will offer some insight into this MOS for those of you who are either about to enter training or are thinking about picking this MOS, I have over 15 years into this job an I still do it as a civilian as a contractor an as a reservist so I will give you the honest gritty details. As like any other job in the Army you will either love it or hate it an that mainly depends on how much skill you bring in from the outside-if you have absolutely no mechanical inclination whatsoever, you will more than likely hate it because you are probably going to struggle. If you've turned wrenches before you will be better than most but don't let that go to your head-you are not working on your 82' Camaro you are working on some of those most expensive an complex systems an if you don't pay attention YOU WILL FUCK SHIT UP. The Army's idea with this MOS is that if you can read a manual you can fix anything in the Army, which I'm sorry to say is complete BS-because they expect your squad leader to hold your hand and teach you everything you need to know an sometimes that just won't work in your favor. The greatest skills you can learn in this MOS is to be a self sufficient soldier, taking your time, paying attention to detail, USING COMMON SENSE, and being a sponge for knowledge. If you are one of those guys that thinks he knows everything and doesn't want to listen to people YOU WILL FAIL AT THIS JOB. I could go into more detail but I won't-if anyone has anymore questions feel free to either comment here or just pm me.
Stephen Kapowski, I'm thinking about being a 91b. I did automotive in school. After i graduate high school I'll be off for BT. Is ait for 91b worth it to go through? Will you learn more things? And does it benefit you a lot for outside civilian jobs?
Consider this Patrick, most Diesel Tech schools are anywhere from 18-24 months long, 91B training is 13 weeks, which do you think you're going to learn more in? 91B schooling will do nearly next to nothing for you on the outside unless you want to try an get a contracting job working on military vehicles but that will mainly depend more on your experience than your schooling. Most of the good money for this MOS is on the outside in contracting an DOD positions but you will definitely need to add as much as you can for schooling (military and civilian) while you're active to benefit from it.
i’m interested in being a 91B, i’m a senior in highschool and the only prior knowledge i really have is that i’ve taken 2 years of auto shop. do you think that will be sufficient and that i’ll be able to make it ? ive never really worked on cars outside of autoshop in highschool but i do very much find interest in working on cars
I took autotech in highschool. Learned things like engine repair and light maintenance. Some breaks and suspension. Will I do good in 91b AIT if I have this knowledge? Any information will help. I hope to start enlisting in a week or so but I wan't to be sure that I can go in a graduate AIT. Thank you for anyone who can answer my questions.
How much auto mechanic skills do really learn from 91B AIT? What do you learn? How much actual hands on? do you learn how to change time belts, brakes, alternator, engine swap?
I can't speak for the curriculum now as its changed from when I went thru but I do know at the very least you will learn how to use the manual which is a very important critical skill but do not expect them to do your job for you some old school guys won't like me saying this but they know its true (Army TMs are not always correct) this is why its important to learn how to think outside the box an use your greatest asset (your brain) which they will not teach you in AIT. When you first get to your unit you will more than likely be put on the service line (if your leadership is smart) this is the best way IMO to learn the equipment an how it works an this is your opportunity to LEARN LEARN LEARN.
No it's not all classes. It's about half and half. You will be in the classroom for about 2 days then you will be out in the shop working on the truck for 2-3 days. But yes we do work on trucks at least 3 days a week. You will continue the process for 10 weeks then the last 2 weeks you will be out in the field doing hands on training in real life situations
So im leaving Fort Sill to come to Ft Lee, I’m wondering if there are formations for chow and linen & all that stuff. Also when you come in as Phase 4, are you allowed to keep your phone secured in your room or are they strict dependent on what Company I’m with?
Generic Auto Vlogs Generic Auto Vlogs there is still a formation for chow, but linen there is not. You can do laundry whenever you want. And no the phases restart. And nope I’m pretty sure everyone can have their phones but you just can’t bring it to class or in the chow hall. So after classes everyday you can use your phone or laptop or tv and x box or whatever you want. After classes you’re on your time to do whatever. As long as you are back and ready and cleaned up for final formation/bed check
I'm about to go to basic at Fort sill. then I go to fort Lee for 91B so I'm pretty excited. how does wearing your acu off base work like going to the mall or whatever, are you aloud to?
No you can't wear your uniform off base at all. During basic your not even allowed of base and you have zero freedom but at AIT you can go off base you just have to wear regular civilian clothes
I’m enlisting next may I’m working out every single day I run a Heavy Wrecker here locally and have been around heavy equipment my entire life I wake up at 4 in the morning every day and have for the past 3 months what advice do y’all have for me?
Yooo I'm graduating from Fort Jackson after VBL and headed to Fort Lee for AIT tryna be a 91B and I really really wanna know what the gym situation is like there? Like are the gyms nice and how nice and when do you really get the free time to go workout by yourself and get those gains??
Quinton Cordova the gyms are tiny. Like there's a bench press a few dumbbells and a squat rack that's it. You can workout everyday if you wanna after school is over.
masternater 199 i would say do both? And having military on your resume is just a huge bonus! I’d say go to 91b school and enlist andthen go to college
You will definitely be more appealing to contractors with a tech school background after you get out an you will learn ALOT more considering that most tech schools for diesel technician is 18 months give or take while the 91B school is correct me if I'm wrong 9 or 10 weeks?
I just got to ait yesterday I'm on my weekend pass with my family. they haven't told me any info. besides my room number and that's about it. do I get a welcome here, here's all your info brief on Sunday or monday?
Okay I'm in Alpha I have 2 weeks left here but yeah you'll probably get all that breif stuff Monday and you'll start school wendsday it goes by fast so don't be worried about a thing it's nothing like basic you will have lots a fun and freedom. Good luck
Yes technically you can however you will more than likely will have an automatics restriction on your CDL which could limit your hiring potential. I would suggest going thru an actual truck driving school to get a class A with all the endorsements as you'll learn how to double clutch, back, an handle a rig-the GI bill will pay for the school so you really have nothing to lose.
Damian Gessner.. when I went you could, not during school hours though. Only on personal time and same without dip. But these days there is so much vaping and such I’m not sure what the rules are anymore
sajol shrestha I’m a 91B and I graduated from Fort lee late December 2018. Each floor had a computer lab which you can access anytime you are not busy. And when it’s not lights out
WTH? You get free time? When I went through AIT we got 2-3 hours Sunday Morning. There were no desks and you better not get caught sitting anywhere but the floor. If you were to get caught sitting you had better shining your boots. Every evening was spit and polish time. That meant everyone had better be cleaning their area of responsibility or their personal gear and laundry etc. The last 3 weekends we got weekend passes and could leave post. The weekends before that were restricted to the Battalion area. Couldn't even go to the park that we could see from the barracks. That was Ft Leonard Wood Mo. and it was 1984.
Thank You for the info. My son is currently at Fort Greg Adams/Delta Company, arrived less than a week ago. Your information was very helpful. Thanks again Darrell.
Hey man Thank You a lot I'm about to get there in a couple of hours to start AIT and watching this was really good

Cool! I was also a 91B back in the early 1980s. Back then it was a Basic Medical Specialist. Field medic. Enjoy your time.😁

The weekends before that were restricted to the Battalion area. Couldn't even go to the park that we could see from the barracks. That was Ft Leonard Wood Mo. and it was 1984.
