Interesting.
Toponyms are Russian words.
Mount Pozhar - пожар - fire (that firefighters fight)
Mount Sestra - сестра - sister
Vesna Bridge - весна - Spring
Silny - сильный - strong
Rynok square - рынок - market
Fort Strazh - страж - guardian or sentinel
Mir - мир - this word has two meanings: peace and world
Razdor - раздор - discord, or maybe strife
Ryba - рыба - Fish
Thank you for video!
You’re welcome! :)
Indeed! and medium nitpick on that subject → This whole game has such a Russian ambiance, I wish they had not used voice actors with US accents for the voiceovers. 🤦♀️ The voice acting is good, I appreciate that, but “Grigoriy” with a medieval broadsword addressing “Yuriy” in a US-nightly-news accent just ... ack ... and no one can say “I know not what is happening” in any New World accent without a cringe, right? 😬 Anyway. The music is very effective. I saved the Baldur’s Gate soundtracks years ago for these sorts of games, this soundtrack is up there. 👍
Thank you for the superb playthrough! Such detailed playthroughs make all the difference for me in deciding whether to back. I think this one is a yes, thanks to your video.
Loving the look of this game, narrative RPG adventure really is my bag..
Sounds right up your alley then!
Fantastic preview Adam. Also, this game looks amazing! Thank you for including the link to the KS draft in the description.
Thanks so much Carl. Kind of you!
Have to have that info to make an informed decision. All the best :)
Well that just confirmed my suspicions, yup, will be getting this
Hey Adam! Thanks for watching and glad it helped you in your decision! Cheers
I can't wait for your updated video on this game 2 years later. Hopefully coming up soon.
I’m looking forward to it as well. It’s been awhile! 😉
I am so torn on this because of the bag combat. With a dice/card system I can typically decide what action I want to do and then see how it turns out. With the bag I feel like I cannot decide what I want to do and I am just making the best out of the situation. If I want to attack and roll dice I feel like I have a chance, but if I want to attack and pull shields I feel like I had no choice and the game is playing itself. Maybe in the end dice and pulling are the same, but even so in my head it feels different. Was really excited for this, but now unsure. Still have 30mins left of the video though so will keep watching. I will say it sucks that this, Oathsworn and Aeons trespass are coming out around the same time. At least this and Aeon have a great price all things considered. There is also more narration than I expected, but I guess you cannot want a story game and then complain about spending a lot of it quietly listening.
Steve4TW Hi Steve! So in the beginning the chip pulling definitely feels like it plays itself as it acts as a tutorial. However, as the game progresses it adds several mechanics that give you more choice and mitigation. We will showcase these in the campaign. The choice comes into play using equipped gear, and character abilities.
@@SkyKingdomGames Thanks for the reply! My wife and I were talking about this once we saw the mulligan card as well as reminding ourselves that gear may change and that gear does play a big roll in whats in your bag. I am excited to see the next rolling solo video at a high level as well as the campaign so that I can get a feel for how things will feel different from the newbie zone levels so to speak.....That said, it seems to me that the Assassin would have destroyed him if played correctly unless extremely lucky...So it feels like a game design decision to push characters to a certain outcome, perhaps for tutorial reasons?
Steve4TW Definitely! The assassin would have indeed won handily, but for the sake of time this demo showed a couple battles and went directly to the narrative event. Normally, you would want to fight a couple more battles, craft a bit of gear AND unlock your first speaking stone ability which would have made the difference!
@@SkyKingdomGames That makes since...Is there anything visual that help let players know when they might be ready for the next story event or is it a matter of try it out and if you die you can go level up and try again? Otherwise you might have PC gamers/rpg/mmo players like me grinding levels to make sure there is no way we will be underleveled for the combat heh.
Steve4TW No way to tell so there will be some trial and error and that’s good as it will force players to adjust strategy by changing out gear and abilities.
Nice! - love it! - I have way to many games with miniatures and not that many with chips... I'm going all-in on this one! Thanks Adam for your work!
Right? This is a nice change from the norm. Love the chips!
This looks awesome went ahead and backed the game after seeying this
Thanks for a great video
Hey Wilbert! Happy you found a game you’re interested in. :)
Great intro Adam, the game has interestin mechanis and the fighting gets tense. Really enjoyed it, thanks for the link.
You bet Trevor! Thanks for watching and hope it helps you in your decision :)
Very nice preview. I wasn't going for this game before, but I am very interested now :)
Thanks! Happy I could help you find a game you like. :D
@@RollingSolo The only drawback are the dual mini sculpts. I can't use the minis in my D&D campaigns like that. I hope they make it single minis, perhaps having each a half base that fits with the other, or something like that.
Good feedback for them. Worth asking on their FB page as well. Cheers!
Late pledged! Totally missed this one. Thanks for the video
You bet! Actually have an updated video in the future landing. Combat has changed a lot!!
@@RollingSolo awesome, I look forward to it! Ya I saw that in an update going through the KS page
Nice!
Awesome job demo'ing this game!!!! I hope you receive a lot more KS business on making these. This is what all game companies need to do. Potential buyers shouldn't have to scour youtube looking for these things. It gets time consuming and some just aren't as good at a demo as you are. You rank right up there with Jongetsgames for me. I almost wish there was a pointer built into the mini base so you knew exactly what space you were on .
Thanks Mark! That's super kind of you and I'm happy I can help you make decisions on games. Good point about the pointer too! Hope to see you around more :D
Nice intro adam! Now i go back to watching the vid 😉
Thanks so much. Enjoy the rest DM!
The components look lovely. I do wish that the writing were less, well, generic-modern-fantasy (to me, 'It's OK' does not belong in a fantasy character's mouth), but I realize that this has become a standard and that expecting a style more suitable to Elfland than Poughkeepsie (as Ursula leGuin put it) is a losing battle. It remains to be seen whether this is just a token-drawing luckfest or whether there is some good story and scope for strategic play.
Is the poison token in the 'Choose Target' really supposed to add a poison token? I would have supposed, for consistency, that the purpose of the icon in that section is to select the target who already has a poison in their bag.
I can say that there will be more information on advanced combat in the KS. There was a need to not spoil the story in the prototype so that sets the game in the early stages when you don’t haven many options. Progression is the key to the game and it opens up options later on as you level up. Thus making you feel more and more powerful and strategic as time goes on. That’s my impression anyway. Also keen on seeing it go live and the info updates. Thanks for watching!
One word, "Drools and you're making the intro sound like your Call to Arms videos when you eventually make those cause we know you will when that hits tables next year is going to be awesome". Ok that was like 20 words.
haha ;p
Defiantly backing this!
Thanks for taking the time to check out the video. Sounds like it helped :)
I know this video is 2 years old at this time. It just recently came across my radar and late pledged. I'm hoping you revisit this game again. I heard there had been changes, especially to the fight mechanics.
You’re in luck! As I covered the original KS I am putting out an Overview video in October looking at some aspects of the game. So stay tuned my friend! 😄
@@RollingSolo looking forward to it.
@@raortiz73 See you then!
Amazing solo combat system!!
It scales up over time as well. Different chips are added to the bag and it changes up your strategy. :)
@@RollingSolo
I can just imagine!!
Also, thanks for putting the text up where the mistake is. I can see this really ramping up as enemies get more AP!
I'm not normally an app guy but this game, the theme and the mechanics fits my very strict criteria so I think it'll be the very first KS I back on the first printing-and only my 3rd ever KS
Excellent work on the camera angles and rules/mechanics explanations! 🙂
Thanks Shane! Happy to help you find a game you’ll enjoy. :D
A lone timber-wolf would never attack a full grown healthy human. A mountain bear is a hard enough stretch as it is unless it has cubs nearby. I hope we don’t spend too much time fighting just wild life! I love the magic traced story so far though.😉
Portland bfc :) Indeed what is faced is different in the future, and there’s a reason why the wild life is being so aggressive too (the narrative will cover that).
Hope the answer above helps!
@@SkyKingdomGames I am now even more excited for this game if that is even humanly possible!
LOL. Yes, let's focus on the realities of the fantasy game.
This game looks great, thanks for the videos.
You bet Udo! Thanks for taking the time to check them out. :)
Thank, now I have a better idea how this one plays.
This, Aeon Trespass: Odyssey and Oathsworn. Hmm.
Choices choices!
That assassin is tough! One question though, can you grind on the map before going to the main quest? Going back and forth on locations to kill monsters?
Yes it’s completely open world. You could spend some time hitting the nodes I already did or hit the others I didn’t. So you can try to prepare better. I like that freedom!
North Star Absolutely! That’s actually encouraged as you can search for enemy drops to craft better equipment and gain gold to purchase helpful items.
Great! As an avid RPG gamer, grinding for materials (rare mats for rare equips) and crafting equipments are what I like. Or getting the best gear from bosses. Or going on side quests. I will keep an eye on this! This was a great preview!
Thanks so much! :)
@@RollingSolo great...now I am going to be grinding to max level before starting the story:p heh
hi there, quick question, is there's at any point during those campaigns, that are really making the game different ?
or just few that aren't really changing the feeling from game to game or replay ?
Are those "choice" sometimes based on anything "matérials" ? like a test or an item you've collected along the way that helps you chosing a "path" instead another ?
Or are those choices just "chose 1 or 2 ?"
Thanks
Cheers from belgium
Hey! Good questions. I would recommend you check out the FB group devoted to the game. It will clear what you’re after! Hope this helps 😄👍🏼
Great work as usual, Adam.
Thanks Corey much appreciated! :)
Thank you so much for this preview. I love games like this and as soon as it opens I will be backing this game. Do you have any other recommendations on games like this?
Hey Derrick! Great to hear this one lines up for you. Off the top of my head not so much. Looking forward to the KS launch now. Very soon!
Check out Legends of Novus
Was there a reason they decided to go with numbered chip pulls from a bag instead of the more convenient (and cheaper) option of a D6 dice roll?
Hey! That’s a great suggestion. Not sure to be honest. But a die would be a easier alternative here for sure. Unless there are nodes later that are more than six?
@@RollingSolo I was wondering the same thing. Unless you discard the chips, or there are more then 1 of a specific number...
My biggest question/concern about this game is the variable number of enemies that will come in the box. If each enemy has its own unique AI deck, this game could either fill up incredibly quick with AI cards, or there will be a limited number of enemies to battle. Any idea which category this might fall into? Also, is this also a one and done experience? What is the replay value?
There are AI cards per but 8 for each. Plus each enemy has multiple levels using the same deck from my understanding. Hope this helps!
Hi Bill, we have 40 unique enemies in the core game (each with 3 levels of difficulty) and the AI deck does not change for each level of enemy. We also have plans to expand that enemy count too throughout the campaign this month!
Regarding the replay value - each of the 4 campaigns have multiple branching paths that take you very different directions so if you play a campaign over again you can experience brand new content. Additionally - the campaign this month may add even more to that...
Good info there ^ :)
It seems like swiftness should be giving the enemy an extra AP and not just recovering one. Making all those cards you couldn't active with extra ap actually do something.
Hey Michael! Swiftness is actually the enemy gaining an AP. I played this wrong here but mentioned in pinned comment and also in my how to play. Good eye! :)
What difficulty scale comes with having a second player? Would you still have just faced off against the lone bear or Timberwolf? Do those double? It seemed especially punishing at just single player but that it would be too easy at 2 unless it scaled.
Blake Curry Yep, if he was controlling 2 characters those node encounters would have been the same (1 wolf or 1 bear), but that’s just because he drew those particular chips. If he drew a different value he could have taken on 2 wolfs or a wolf and a scout. There’s 5 unique outcomes for encounters and side quests at every node.
To answer your question - it would have been easier with two characters vs 1 Timber Wolf or Mountain.
@@SkyKingdomGames so the game is generally easier across the board with 2, or do only some more involved encounters become applicable with 2?
Blake Curry It’s a mixture of both. You certainly don’t want a tough battle every single encounter. This is the intro of the game so you’re only controlling Grigory (solo) and it acts like a tutorial. The second character who joins Grigory on his journey (campaign 1) joins him shortly after the events in this demo section. Then the system really opens up. We will be featuring some of the co-op battles on the page and throughout the campaign as well so you can see it in action.
@@SkyKingdomGames So even in a 2 player campaign, you start off just soloing Gregory? Interesting. I guess for the second player I would just have them be the "monsters" drawing the cards and trying to kill me until player 2 unlocks.
@@blakecurry3880 Only the Grigory campaign starts off with him (Campaign 1). The others start with 2 characters. The prelude that Adam read at the start of this video sets the scene for how each of the campaigns begin right after the guard ambushes the Falmund patrol. After Grigory leaves for Silny the other 6 are left there and eventually split up (you'll find out why in the narrative later).
Where did this game come from? Wasn't aware of it.
Love the map and components.
It actually reminds me of Trudvang, once again tokens instead of dice which seems to be very popular mechanic at the moment.
The enemy's combat cards are a similar mechanic to Grimslingers card game.
My only complaint would be the character mini which is too big for the map. Smaller scale would work better.
It's good to see though a game that doesn't use hundreds on minis and blows the cost out like what CMON put out. This should be a lot more affordable.
Absolutely! If you want more information on the game and pricing check the video description for the KS draft page!
Warpaint - the sample miniature is not the final size as we are testing sizing now. We definitely want something to match the scale as well.
That’s good info!
After looking at the draft I'm a little concerned about the pricing.
As I mentioned earlier I figured this would be more affordable than say CMON's Trudvang as that game has tonnes of minis.
Both are almost similar in price and without all the minis I'm wondering why?
Is the app blowing the cost on this out?
Warpaint The app is separate from the core game and is $15. The core game is $79. Trudvang was $100 for the core game and then had multiple optional buys. This title won’t have any and the core pricing will stay the same. :)
But as far as pricing - this title is close to 800-900+ cards, 100 weighted chips and tons of boards. Tons of value for $79.
Looks cool, but I’m going to save my money for aeon trespass oddesy.
Not enough minis in this for me.
Nothing wrong with that. Happy to help!
Same here, also Time of Legends Destinies but am unsure of how much that relies on the app and scanning codes.
That’s another interesting one. The solo is being worked on still though!
Aeon Trespass looks great! Those minis are beautiful! It's going to be a tough choice as both games appeal to me.
Great preview! Is this a legacy type game? How many hours to complete the campaign?
Wynter1794 There will be 4 campaigns that span 30+ hours total to complete (more if you complete various side quests and content).
It's not a legacy game. They've stated there are 4 unique campaigns that each take about 8 hours based on whether you do a lot of exploring and side quests or just the main story line.
Thanks! That’s a great question which I would head to the KS Draft page I linked to in the video description. This should help you out!
Thanks for the info!
Useful playthrough thanks. I'm not sure you were meant to put a poison in the bag at approx 53 mins, being in the first section of the AI card I read it as "select target with poison in their bag or if none ..."
Repeated at 57:50...
Hmm I believe it was valid. I’ll wait to see if the designer has thoughts on it. Thanks for pointing it out :)
Agree there should not have been a poison chip added.
It states target the character with poison in the bag not put poison in the bag at both timestamps.
The assassin is following up attacks to poisoned character, in case there was more than one character involved in combat.
Jerry Wolfe Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated!
@NeptuneMagnus No not really but my only concern is a demo has you min/maxing, right from the get go like a video game. I guess the whole idea of this is Elder Scrolls Oblivion, and others of the similar genre.
I mean you don't go fight that Lich King of Miscarcand in the Imperial city when you first start Oblivion (but you could and then die... Lol) ... so ya I backed it AND Aeon Trespass: Odyssey too.
@Rolling Solo Adam - you need to stop doing these amazing videos! I keep telling myself no more KS, but it's really difficult when you choose great games that solo! I don't mind the bag combat as thematically it makes sense to me. The character starts off with some skills, and is using those. As I level up, I can choose to add more attack chips to the bag if that's the way I want to play the game. Equipment will also mitigate nasty things that happen. The randomness adds to the tension level (I really want to hit this opponent, but keep drawing shields). I like how this would increase my odds of drawing a sword, and having the ability to add chips back to the bag (though taking a damage to health may be a fatal choice). LOL In a way, it's like counting cards at blackjack, but the stakes are much higher for your character. :)
That’s exactly it! I have another video coming soon discussing more about the game as well. This should help solo gamers decide either way! :)
I don't understand how a critical strike, which takes two swords and does two damage, is any different than doing two Cross strikes, which cost 1 each, and 2 total damage. Both cost 2, and both do 2 damage...
I believe if memory serves this was changed in further development after this video and possibly as a result. 😉
@@RollingSolo Sounds good. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
Anytime!
24:35 I think you made a mistake here. The wolf attack says if the attack deals damage > than your shield. The attack only deals 1 damage, that is non greater than your shield, so no fear token. If the attack deals 4 damage, you get the fear token.
Hey Leonardo! Thanks for the feedback. You’re likely right. It’s been a bit but that sounds right. Also be sure to check the pinned comment on case it’s mentioned. Thanks for watching my friend!
@@RollingSolo yeah, thx for the tip. I've been looking at isofarian guard video because a friend told me about it and it's pretty awesome so I might think about late pledge. You are the only one with a gameplay video :)
It’s shaping up to be a great game based on the development pictures I’ve seen. I enjoyed the prototype bit I believe things have been changed for the better here and there too.
@@dav1dgear I got you covered! 😉
@@RollingSolo yeah I'm amazed by the update, not a lot of company add stuff post campaign and it seem to be getting better and better
If the assassin's attack makes you remove tokens from the bag why does the poison have an effect but not the sword (for example) ? Another great video! :)
Hello Olivier! The sword is used to activate ability cards. Positive and negative effect conditions are one time and then removed from bag. Sword and shields (black chips) are standard and you get them in the bag at the start of every combat.
@@RollingSolo Thanks! :)
You bet! ;)
I get the feeling that a lot of 'real estate' on the components is wasted... or will that be addressed in the production after the KS?
That remains to be seen. The prototype is just that and the Ks will add to the game in various ways! :)
This is really helpful as I ponder this game.
How much table space does it take up?
If you fold up the works map after moving it’s medium to small in terms of table space. :)
Hungry Gamer “mmm tasty!” Has Oathsworn got your gamer tummy rumbling too? ⚔️ 🐀
@@KarimTheilgaard I am VERY interested in it also...doubly so knowing there is a standee version !
Karim Theilgaard I would go eating any meeples. They don’t go down or out easy. haha
Rolling Solo Lol!
So you cannot do an attack if you do not have a sword chip on a card but you can defend if you do not have a shield chip. That seems kinda weird.
Makes you have to choose between attacking and bolstering your defence strategically would be my guess. Thanks for watching!
So what happens when you lose a fight and/or your character dies? Do you have to start the same scenario over again?
There are fire based chips where you can restart from. When you choose to camp I believe :)
Its hard to hear u someone's watching Conan in the background
haha Maybe Grigory isn’t Grigory at all...
isofarian guard or aeon's trespass odyssey … what would you chose ?
I’m interested in both to be honest. Although Aeon’s Trespass isn’t as original to me as it follows in KDM’s path. I prefer the latter at the moment.
So how did it feel strategically? I mean, just watching your fight with the wolf and the bear...the choices were super obvious - is there more to combat than that?
Quite a bit more as this was the opening battles of the game and acts as a tutorial. More interesting options and mechanics get introduced slightly past this opening scenario. The Boardgame Spotlight will be showing some co-op combat with advanced options later this month as well as more on the campaign page as well!
Hope this info above helps!
@@SkyKingdomGames Perfect, can't wait to see that video!
;)
Where is that game spotlight? The combat presented here is choiceless (and meaningless). Have you thought about making it optional? Or remove it altogether, the other parts of the game look cool.
"Kill The Assassin" can be a game in itself - and a rather boring one at that. If this is an example of the long repetitive type of combat a player has to plod through to move forward in the adventure then my time can better be spent with other games. The extensive chip handling though does provide good practice for casino gambling.
Hey CF S! This is an old playthrough with old prototype rules. I would reference my most recent video as the combat got an overhaul. Cheers!
Not much game there... :/
Hey Jens! There’s a lot of narrative in this because it’s the initial backstory and prelude. The game opened up and so does the available chips and freedom of exploration. Be sure to check out the KS draft page for more information on that. The prototype avoids spoilers so it’s a tiny snippet of content.
For you perhaps. It's a story experience. And for that kind of gamer, there's a lot of game here.
matthlowder Oh I love
My story games but this just seems like too much thin mechanics... combat seems uninteresting (basically no choices to make at the first combats) and drags on... to each his own! :)
music too loud. distracting
Thanks for watching and the feedback. Cheers
Nice Infos and Video in total!!! Thx!
The game though looks too boring für the whole lot of material and management it is coming along with mhh
Hey Andre! I certainly found it interesting and enjoyable to play. Either way I hope the videos helped you out :)
Can you play ONLY with one character?
Absolutely! :)
@@RollingSolo sorry Adam but reading the ks draft you need to control 2 characters, dont know what it is wrong
Hey boratube, the game in certain spots may only have you controlling one. Sometimes allies can join up with you during based on the narrative. Hope this helps you!
Oathsworn all in ... Neither this or aeon seems better then oathsworn ... And 5-10 min setup and teardown time for oathsworn is amazing
Hey AGP! Happy to hear you’re able to come to a decision. Thanks for watching! :)
I contacted the producers of oathsworn because there is not full gameplay playthrough and they told me you were in charge of this ;) sweeetttt ... When is your video's going online ? Thanks
That’s something I can’t say just yet. Don’t want to make promises on time to avoid disappointment. See you there tho! ;)
WHY?! Why has "Bag Building" become the hot mechanic for RPG story-based Kickstarters?!? It is so counter-intuitive to me and my board game friends .... "Let's have a rich story and characters you can get invested in .... but have a bag decide what actions are taken every turn instead of choosing what the character would do"
While there’s some randomness - the further you get into the story you are able to both mitigate and manipulate the draws in a unique and fun way. This gives you more control over the battle and brings more meaningful decisions. We will flesh this out more during the campaign, but just realize this is the very beginning of the first campaign and is meant as a tutorial.
The ability to mitigate the bag is the best aspect as you character grows. Similar to how an unskilled adventurer would only have a handful of skills at the start but a seasoned one has many skills and multiple ways to pull them off.
@@RollingSolo I understand and could "possibly" be excited if the bag building was an "enhancement" to character choice; choosing the main action (attack, defend, spell cast, etc) and the bag components affect that action. This would allow you to still build a tailored bag with personal strengths and weaknesses but not lose the immersion of choice and character behavior. As an example, you could add more "spell-heavy" focused runes to the bag but pulling one of those out does little-to nothing for defense or melee attack.
However, as-is, bag building removes me from immersion in a story-character-heavy RPG as you're just going to bag-draw in to a situation that "my bloodlust, enraged barbarian is being attack by ravage dire wolves and chooses .... to defend this round!" ... seriously?!? Like REALLY??!?!
To be clear, I very much enjoy bag building mechanics and games. However, using it as a "decision" mechanism in a story story-character-heavy RPG isn't something I, personally, am interested in as it removes me from "being" the character.
Nothing wrong with your preferences and thoughts in my mind. I can see the angle you mean. I hope the video helped you decide either way! That is the aim :)
@@RollingSolo Your videos are ALWAYS helpful ... thank you so very much for all you do! I should've led off commenting with those words :-)
