My goddamn hero.
@dylan foley If you put it that way "Germans" did not originally live in the land that is now Germany. Most everybody killed other people to get to where they are now.
Not all heroes wear capes.
@dylan foley where u from
proceeds to call a fucking weird german/russian empanada a hamburger.
@dylan foley Not remotely true. Modern "Europeans" with Gernamic roots came from about Central Asia. We even have Roman records tracing some of their migrations, as well as archeological evidence. Native populations - Basques, Sammi, etc. were displaced and marginalized.
Even the Celts didn't come from Europe.
And to move in, the Gernamic people killed.
Open a book and learn.

My grandmother was a Volga German. The bierock (we just called them "cabbage buns") is a staple tradition in my family, we like to make them for birthdays, and everyone has their favorite topping to put inside. You can also get them at a chain restaurant called "Runza," but it doesn't beat home-made by grandma.
In North Dakota the German-Russians from the Crimean region have something similar called the "Fleischkuekle", it's deep fried instead of baked and I have never seen cabbage in them.

I'm SCREAMING RUNZA- Literally the chain restaurant of bierock.
For real.
At least say it right!! BEER-ROCK. Not b-rock...
THANK YOU!!!
This episode literally made me want to go get some Runza. The Bierock is an absolute legend around these parts, everyone just calls it a Runza though!
Yeah, when they said it was only something you'd find at church functions, all I could think of was Runza.
Grew up in nebraska and Runza was the only thing I could think of when he said bierrock.
It IS a Runza! You can get them all over Nebraska without going to church!
Ive live in nebraska my whole life and we have a family recipe for Runza's and ive never heard them called Bierocks before lol
Nebraska born and raised and always called 'em Runzas. It's like calling facial tissue a kleenex. Or hook-n-loop velcro.
Bierock, also known as Runza! Saw it and immediately knew what was up. Temperature Tuesdays were the best. Never forget your Nebraska roots!
Though one important thing to note as you mentioned the Cornish Pasty. Unlike the others, the pasty was both a meal and a dessert and fairly bigger than the others, you would make two seperate fillings one of meat and potato and a sweet filling usually apples or other fruit. Then the pasty would have pastry to seperate the two fillings and the sweet side of the pasty would be marked usually by sprinkling it with sugar. The reason being they where made for Miners, you would probably spent the majority of the day underground and having a full meal when so deep underground was practically impossible.
If you go to Cornwall there are bakerys that still make the traditional version to this very day.
"You guys go ahead, I've already had a few, today... just kidding"
Sure George, sure
Brad back again with the “briogge”
I wish he'd look at the word. "ch" does not make the "zh" sound.
And I hope it never changes 😂 "Sour-douuuuughnuts."
"you can only find these at church functions" umm there's at least 1 Runza per square mile here in Nebraska XD
YES NEO GO OFF!!!
Just about to comment this lol
When he said that i thought Runza had gone under xD
They acknowledge Runza at 8:25
I grew up in Lincoln, lived there almost 40 years. I've never heard this called a "Bierock". Ever. I even worked for Runza for a time when I was young. No one ever even mentioned that word. I worked all over SE Nebraska and NE Kansas. I've never heard it called that, even at church functions. If anyone wanted to avoid calling it a "Runza" because trademark, it was always just called a 'Kraut Burger'. Now I want a Runza.
The Runza truly is a legend in NE region (pre-dated the start of McDs inception)

It's like calling a Philly Cheesesteak a burger... Just not correct
Ey, Nebraska gang. The Runza is not a burg, but they made it clear that it isn't, it's a weird cousin, or a hot step sis.
@@thefolder69 More like calling a Chopped Cheese a Philly Cheesesteak. It's close but not quite. Personally, I would have made and seared a patty (just to get color on the outside), then put it in the dough whole, so it was like a burger cooked into the bun.

The bierock (or at least a close cousin to it) is sold in Nebraska, in a chain called Runza! It’s their main sandwich they sell.

I only lived in Omaha for a year and I can't tell you how happy I am to learn the real name for the dish. Runza is not a great name for a food if you know what I mean.

The brock is know more as a runza in Nebraska and Iowa. It is a regional chain of restaurants who make those sandwiches.
THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!!!
I am a Nebraskan. If you want that bierock in a drive thru you would be looking to order a Runza. I'd say its closer to 1 and a half of the size sandwich Motz made. Seasoned ground beef and cabbage live in my heart... thats why its enlarged!
The "Bierok" is also called "Kraut Ranza." It's a German sandwich made by cooking beef, sausage, onions, cabbage, sauerkraut, and spices. Then wrapping that mix into bread dough and baking. AMAZING food found at almost every German grandmother's house and church potluck
Also called a Runza and sold at a local fast food chain called... Runza.
