    In answer to the first question: the parent or parents, first of all, must inform themselves about the matter. What are rhe treatments involved? Who is doing it? What are the long term outcomes? Many people are not informed and it then comes across as an opinion.

    This is the price we pay for a few generations of psychology students who were not allowed to read Freud, Klein, Lacan, or even Winnicot. The same thing happened to sociology and history earlier... Let's become and stay attentive...

    People constantly hungry for the presence of other people shouldn't be the norm. How are you supposed to focus on developing or using any skills of any kind with someone always looking over your shoulder or chattering in the background, gross. People being prone to loneliness is the problem not being alone from time to time.

    😮 My brain hurts but… wow and ok. And I’ll get the book and think for myself about it. Of course assuming you’re already dead… well, isn’t that mass formation too? Although I agree that there are things for which I’m willing to die (my kids come to mind). The biggest thing I took from this was to fight against it with the opposite of the tools of the mass - honesty, kindness, attention… so far I tend to get angry with my family for their buy in to this mass formation. How can I stop being so angry?! It’s without fail - they do or say something ridiculous and my immediate overpowering response is anger… “NO trans women are NOT women!” I yelled with no control at all. To my shame. I didn’t know he was considering himself trans at the time. 😞

  • @rogerhill138
    @rogerhill138 5 дней назад

    He is right on some of his remarks but so, so wrong on others. Every person on the planet has an "ideology" a way of seeing the World. He just assumes that his is the correct one without explaining what it is. His apparent fear of the "masses" and lack of mention of US Christian fundamentalists, McCarthyism and reference to the Talmud are red flags. Nazism and Stalinism had totally different historical roots and historical development. Nazism was defeated by arms - the Soviets themselves exposed Stalinism. Hegel was concerned with alienation - the inability to related to the dominant social ideology. I could go on and on but Desmet is little more than a Right Wing libertarian. Individuals can't beat fascism - only organised opposition can.

    Some people are loners, that doesn't mean that they feel lonely. Introverts prefer solitude. It helps them to self-regulate. Loneliness can be harmful only for extroverts and codependent people.

    • @amberredish93

      Yes that’s true. I’d say some, even very limited, connection to humans or animals is important for most people. I met someone who knew that their best life would be spent in solitude, away from all people most of the time and praying. all varieties of human experience is valid and important.

      "Loneliness can be harmful only for extroverts and codependent people."
      That's NOT true at all.
      Second, there's loneliness and loneliness. Loneliness as in being left alone to recharge in own peace and quiet, and here introverts need significantly more time. I remember once speaking to to an extrovert friend (and I'm an introvert), and said, 'do you you know like after a busy weekend out you need like some time to rest alone' I've been meaning like 3 days or something. She said, 'yeah... for like 3 hours'. It's loneliness in a sense of being left alone, on one's own, to recharge.
      And the second loneliness is being left alone in a negative sense: being desolated, forgotten, abandoned, lonely, without any supportive friend to turn to. That's not the loneliness that will recharge you, that's the loneliness that will pull you down into dark and sad places.
      Everyone needs _some_ time alone - depending on individual makeup, some people need less, some significantly more.
      But also even introverts are actually _not_ asocial people. Just because one is an introvert doesn't mean one doesn't like the company at all, or having friends and spending some time with them. Someone to relate to, to talk to, etc.
      If someone excessively _isolates_ then it's perhaps a sign of mental illness, not a trait like introversion.

    • @helenstangret8830
      @helenstangret8830 14 дней назад +2

      I read/heard somewhere that what we describe as introversion is often a trauma response and this feels true for me: yes I need a long time to recharge but that’s because often being around others feels uncomfortable/unsafe even if there’s some pleasure in it. And that’s something I learnt early in life

    • @NeraBuffy
      @NeraBuffy 13 дней назад

      And societies keep pushing for ways of producing extroverts and codependents because they're so hungry to be lead by someone and to move together.

    Regarding the last question about which is more worrisome (woke vs MAGA) I can not agree with him. He doesn't live in America. We are awaiting with dread what may be ahead of us. There is something sick about having to fight on both fronts, with "woke" ideas and MAGA actions. I fear the MAGA actions will be more destructive to our world. As Ezra Klein wrote today, "now is the Time of Monsters."

    • @allnotathome
      @allnotathome 8 дней назад

      Nothing, it is a liberal canard they constantly like to bring up and whine about. Muslims were indiscriminately conquering, r*ping, killing and subjugating non-muslims in Middle-East en masse and few Christians tried to put a stop to it and they failed.

    • @catsandcrows8880
      @catsandcrows8880 7 дней назад

      Yeah, wondered about that too. The crusades were a reaction against the conquests by the clearly totalitarian "religion of peace".
