It's 2022 and I'm going through my yearly old Say Anything kick, it usually hits in winter idk this is a weird couple of years. Thanks for keeping this track alive!
I feel so seen. thank you. They are not a band of I think of often, but when I do, it's the only thing that fits the bill and hits exactly where I need it. You are not alone.
When I was visiting my mothers parents, I heard this song for the first time. Now this was when I was starting to get right into Say Anything. So I clicked on this video, lets just say if I was a dog, my ears perked. I loved it to every extent, the lyrics, the feel it gives you, I just smiled and kept playing it, eventually I started singing it. Now every time I hear this song I think back when I first heard it, rocking out like I am right now.
Me and John rode out from ocean heading east I had to see with my own eyes the factories I'm buggin' out; we've never strayed this far Right out of town, southeast and down, inside my filthy car But when we got there all we saw were more malls and marble mansions In emerald parks the singing larks proclaimed the great expansion There is no beautiful garbage, they cleared it up already Tears roll out the eyes and though I cry I hold the wheel steady!! Steady!!! Do do do do do do do do do Do do do do do do do do do When I get home, I cannot stand my house My father still fighting with his trophy unfaithful spouse I hear the echo, and now I see it somewhere else A thousand ways, a thousand days, a thousand towns across the commonwealth Out on a date, but like a dog, she smells the fear and runs Until we make our cheese, we tortured artists are no fun I dream of anger, sex with her should I succeed, but still Soon I'll be poppin' pills; this emptiness will not be filled nor killed!! Do do do do do do do do Do do do do do do do do Look at the earth: It's just so green Perhaps it's envious of all the galaxies it's seen Where forces swirl in symbiotic harmony Free of the taint, the gas, and paint of parasites like me Keep using love as the excuse for why we're fat and lazy Wait to grow old, like we've been told; go bald, go west and crazy This is so pointless it actually holds up our evolution Sing it to the bastards: FREE YOURSELF FROM MENTAL PROSTITUTION!! Do do do do do do do Do do do do do do do Oh Oh I didn't know I didn't know Oh Oh I didn't know I didn't know
I just saw him play this tonight, it was absolutely amazing, the energy in the room was unbelievable. I actually got to talk to him after the show, he lives up to the power of his songs.
To all those bitching about anyone illegally downloading say anything, do you seriously think a man like Max cares if he gets any money at all for this music he makes. He makes this stuff to get a point across not to make a quick buck.
If you just go to their main web page, he posted a long blog about the new stuff and why they left their record label. Their creativity was having to be put second to what would make money.
Same! They just performed it in Anaheim on Monday and the way the words came back to me even though it’s not on Spotify and available to listen regularly for me was wild.
Well said. I'm pretty sure the only people who call themselves "Real fans" are the people literally waiting for criticism about the band to come their way so they can defend it with their life. I love SA, and at one point I had all the stuff I could find by them, all not paid for. I now have the 4 main albums, and the rarity album in physical form. yet I don't feel anymore exclusive. I still love the music just the same. Many artists don't care because concerts are where the profit is anyways.
Austin Chappell I completely agree I got to see them when they came to Columbus Ohio I wish they would come back I would give the shirt off my back to see them again
@newyorkpigsty If you have utorrent or any type of torrent program like that, you can go to pirate bay dot org and search "say anything discography". one of the three has almost every single song. it won't give you a virus or anything. I used it when I restored my computer and lost all of their songs.
Dude, Big fucking deal, I mean, You can't have that much money in your wallet when you probably work at McDonald's. Also a true fan doesn't keep tabs on money spent on the artist's stuff, it's how well they get to know the music, i can burst just burst into song and start singing any of his stuff, even his side projects. So please sir. Be quiet.
fck yes. tho i feel bad i was so idealistic at 17 18 about. save the world. and today im like "its fooked. anytime i say anything. everyone just wants to trash me and personally attack me." but there are other things to dedicate my energy to. like being an unfaithful trophy spouse... thats still faithful.. but not in the eyes of the haters of LOVE
Artists make about 2 cents off of each song, per sale. But the real money comes from the record company who buys them off. Above all, they start making money after they pay back the budget the record label gives them to record their record. After it is all payed back, then they start making money off of their own music. But yes, touring and merch is a HUGE factor in making the money flow. Especially Song Shop. But you have to understand that touring is an expense on it's own.
luckily they will be releasing All My Friends are Enemies: Early rarities this month, its available for pre order now i think (and all the pre order copies are signed)
I liked Signal the Riflemen. I think that one was one of those that has deep lyrics. At least towards the beginning... He's pointing out how miniscule our problems our when there are wars being fought out there, and many other major problems we can't begin to understand. But I do agree with you to an extent.. He's a little different, but I mean I still love his music! Him and Tom Delonge I will always love there music!!
He brought a small twist to that line and it made it perfect. It seems to me that there is so much thought behind his lyrics.. Even if he is reforming, his music is deep. I don't care if he changes his looks to look just like every other artist out there, his lyrics are still unique. That's all I ask for.
i love the part where they say "Oh, Oh, I didn't know I didn't know." It sound's sooooo cool! My favourite sond by them is Glory of Love, but I love all the songs on "is a Real Boy". I also love Woe and Spider Song and when he's on Razia's Shadow.
@TheCdacrew ha, real fan? i never claimed to be, nor do i care whether you consider me a "real fan" or not. you're completely insignificant. bemis himself said just before the self-titled was released that he's only just now started buying all of his music. i've bought everything from iarb and on. i'm not enough of a "real fan" to pay $200+ for a bunch of stuff he'll probably re-release in the future. and don't go all holier-than-thou on me--surely you don't buy ALL of your music.
@tes4o That's just because he was a bipolar self-medicating tortured artist and now he is on meds and happy and married. And his dear soul deserves it.
Stereotypes huh? "I hate everyone" doesn't sound like a typical song to me... "Fed to death" .. lyrics like "There once was a man who fed his son to death" are not typical. His lyrics are deep, that's why I like him. He gives you a little to think about with out giving you to much to think about. It's amazing how he does it, but he makes every lyric worth listening to. "when i was ten years young, my douche best friend decided i was just not cool enough" that's amazing!!!
@TheCdacrew lol, why are you judging how much of a fan someone is by whether or not they buy the album? honestly, i consider myself a fan for liking the music... and as a musician (feel free correct me on that self proclamation) i feel great to know that people like my music at all, i couldnt possibly ask people to give me money to do something i love
This is quite ironic. I have a best friend named Jonny, who is pretty much the same person as Max, as Max is his idol. I have a feeling they'd get along. Who knows? Maybe this song is about them...
Bands don't make money off of album sales anyway, it's primarily headlining tours, merch, and Max's song shop. Not really condoning pirating, just informing you of the reality
Oh definitely. Woe and Spidersong have piano pieces in them, and more intense vocal levels. I prefer it. Plus, it's not so produced and reminds me or a time when SA didn't care if their music was flawed.
I think Max is just as sexy and talented as he has ever been. If he goes back to his roots, than it will be the same music over n over n over. Max is a saint, don't insult him.
@msingletary1984 i have searched the far corners of every record store i go into, and not yet have i found the For Sale EP that this song is on. I buy what i can find, but i doubt Max is making any money off this song anymore.
@ratehim Thank you soooo much this is my fav song by SA but I couldn't find it on youtube anywhere I dont have any idea why you where the only one to upload this song.
Well I'd love to 'empty my wallet' and see them live. But they're only playing one UK date that I can travel to and it's 18+, and a month before my 18th birthday.
Still my favorite Say Anything track.
Yuuuuuup!
One of the best for sure, it's prolly sitting pretty up there next to yellow cat/red cat and all my friends are enemies in my top 5 X)
i so wish this and Do The Dohnk were on spotify, even We Will Erase All Life On Earth

This song is a b-side for "is a real boy" which is why it wasn't on the "Early Rarities" album, which was exclusively pre-"is a real boy" music :)

2023. Still such an amazing song.
I wonder how say anything is always my #1 artist, but then I keep discovering they have MORE outstanding songs 😭
like the discography just keeps going... and I keep listening
@@solanarivera the same here. I think this fact turned SA in to my fav band.

My fav Say Anything song... and to this day iTunes doesn't have it. I'm so lame I buy music!
I know right I want to buy this song I'm just happy I got to see them live
+Tucker DeBord one of the best shows I have ever been to was Say Anything ...is a real boy anniversary show :O
Law abiding citizens, when it comes to music, sometimes get screwed out of great songs like this one. Do you listen to Brand New?
Austin Chappell brand new is amazing my favorite song is 77 times 7

I will absolutely never get tired of this song
Still hoping for a rarities two with all these guys
umm... not true. you're delusional. pretty sure you literally just made that up. who would release a "disk" called "demo?" are you dumb?
Max played this at his solo show in Chicago and I just about shit myself
its 2024, still wishing this was on spotify

The doo-doo-doos remind me of an old cartoon I used to watch called Doug haha

Over a dozen years after you made this comment it's currently making a strange smile, thank you :)
because its an old song, don't think max had a record deal at this time so it's off their backs

You either like Say Anything or absolutely fucking love Say Anything.
I hate when a band is good when they start out, then they release a few albums and then you hate them.
Such a thing of beauty x.x
I Love you Say Anything, Every bit of his words just seem to work imo. There's only one song I don't care for
Not everyone has a ton of money. Shouldn't be kept from enjoying something because of it.
I just about shit myself when they sang this at their concert last night.
what album is this from. what the heck? i have never heard of any of this.
for sale tour EP
So damn good

@newyorkpigsty buy them, they are a great band, they deserve it.
@ratehim it's a pain sorting them all, though. BUT IT IS WORTH IT!
so you would have been like... 9 when is a real boy came out
You can download all these songs at aboutfalling. com

I think it's from their 2004 EP "For Sale".
I can't wait for the to re do this album.
