    You guys market it as a talk box made for keyboards but I can bet it will sound great with guitar too. All one needs to do it connect it to the analog output of Axe FX-III and connect a mute pedal between the Axe FX-III and this TalkBox. The TalkBox is indeed the best TalkBox for Axe FX users because of its full frequency response.

    • @thetalkstar
      @thetalkstar  6 лет назад +8

      Great comment!! We do not market the TalkStar for guitars because the typical talkbox pedals on the market are made for guitar. There has never been a self-powered talkbox designed to handle the full range of a synth. This guitar set up sounds like it would be amazing with TalkStar and we'd love to hear that. Hey Santiago, it very could be the patch on your JDxi that has a low output. The Novation MiniNova has an output gain setting that is normally low, and we boosted in the patch... maybe the Roland synth has this as well. Your TalkStar also has an input gain trimpot on the face, and with the mini screwdriver supplied in the accessory box you can turn up the input gain. Feel free to contact us at thetalkstar@gmail.com if you need help - that thing should be screaming!!!!

    It doesn't need to be loud because that's the microphone's job. It should be no louder than your singing voice.

    • @FingazzClassics
      @FingazzClassics 5 лет назад +1

      adamgh0 Not sure if you ever perform live in a concert stage setting, but you absolutely need the extra volume. You can only turn up mic gain so much on stage before it starts feeding back, making it hard to get heard over a live band and loud monitors. You are correct though, in a. Controlled studio setting you need it only loud enough to blend with consonants from your mouth and the mic does the rest. The TalkStar is a professional Talkbox able to perform in both settings at the highest level. The large diaphragm driver has much more low end and smooth tip end as well, and the power amp is able to deliver clean loud signal at any volume. The MXR or Banshee Talkboxes are made for use with a guitar, which has a much lower dynamic range than a synth. They all can get the job done, but it just depends on how serious you are about talkboxing.

      @@FingazzClassics I play live with a talkbox almost every weekend. It's NEVER any louder than my loudest singing voice. It doesn't have to be. It's an extension of your live singing voice.

      Hey! We can recommend 3 options for great synthesizers to use with the TalkStar - On the more affordable end there is the Novation MiniNova or the Korg microKORG and on the more expensive end there is the Moog Sub37. Byron Chambers uses the Yamaha DX100 which is also great but hard to find in good condition. Also, the DX100 is from the early 80's so they are quite fragile and hard to program. Hope this helps!!!

    Does the Korg piano with the Talkbox inside work the same

    • @thetalkstar
      @thetalkstar  5 лет назад

      There is no Korg keyboard or any keyboard that has a talkbox inside, you are confusing it with vocoder - which is a very different thing. This guys video kind of explains the difference - ruclips.net/video/Bdh9zx4dY38/видео.html

  • @InfDogRag
    @InfDogRag 3 года назад +1

    So wait, I'm confused. How was it picking up all the constants ? Like Talkboxes need to be mic'ed, so is this some new futuristic design where no mic is needed and it somehow picks up all your constants another way ? Where was the mic in this video cause I hear him talking.

    • @thetalkstar
      @thetalkstar  3 года назад +2

      You might be confusing talkbox with vocoder, they are completely different. A vocoder requires a mic, which takes the real speech signal as a "modulator" and combines it with filters and a "carrier" signal to create the processed sound that would be amplified or recorded into your DAW. A talkbox takes the synthesizer tone, amplifies it and sends it to your mouth through the tube. By cutting off your vocal cords, you replace your own voice and shape and sing with the synth tone - also articulating the words by over-emphasizing consonants. This "modulated" talkbox singing tone is coming out of your mouth just like a human singer, and the mic is only needed to amplify or record the performance. The TalkStar is very loud!! - enough to hear the talkbox performance without a mic. We offer our Talkbox Master Class free with a TalkStar purchase to learn all the techniques to master talkbox. It's an intricate musical skill and Mr. Talkbox is a Master for sure!!!

    • @InfDogRag
      @InfDogRag 3 года назад

      @@thetalkstar Thanks for such a speedy reply ! So I am aware of the difference. I actually own vocoders and a old Heil Talkbox I bought like 25 years ago. But I suck at them both ! haha. I was just talking about how in the video it sounds so perfect, like a recording already, and I see no mic. Whenever I've seen any talkbox performance, I see a mic. And I know without recording it and playing it back it extremely hard to make it seem legible. Like I understand the tone being amplified is loud enough to be heard in the room, but (at least me) when you do the constants, they really only can be heard via a mic, cause you can't do them that loud with your mouth to be heard over a loud tone across the room. Thats what confused me here. But then it hit me, I am hearing him talk, so.... I guess obviously there is a mic somewhere picking up the vocals. I just can't see it.
      I am definitely getting interested in this TalkBox. But if I can't get good with the one I got, I fear there is no hope for me. lol I just never dedicate enough time I guess ? This one is also quite a bit more than the Heil I bought.

    • @thetalkstar
      @thetalkstar  3 года назад +1

      @@InfDogRag All this was captured with the camera mic. Byron "Mr. Talkbox" Chambers is a master talkboxer, so he makes it look easy!! One aspect of talkboxing is over-emphasizing consonants, especially when you have a talkbox as loud as the TalkStar. All these techniques (and more) can be learned in our online Talkbox Master Class that comes FREE with a TalkStar purchase, or $50 on our website thetalkstar.com

    • @InfDogRag

      @@thetalkstar Wow ! That is amazing. Thanks for clarifying that. That is staggeringly impressive. I def was told about the over emphasizing too, (and believe me, I tried) just never figured it could be picked up from a camera mic ! On top of that when I do/did it, I would also get a lot of mouth smacking type sounds. Sometimes overwhelming my constants. So annoying. My point is, not only does this video show off a bad assss Talkbox, but it inadvertently shows the level of skill ya'll are at with this technique.
      Seriously impressive ! And I am considering the purchase.

    • @thetalkstar

      Hey Kevin, it is more expensive than other guitar pedal talkboxes like MXR and Banshee, because the TalkStar has much more power and range for synth use, and is hand-made with the highest quality components - the same reason a Moog costs much more than a MicroKorg etc. A microphone is not needed for talkbox to work, it is only used to pick up the sound from your mouth when you record or perform live on stage. The TalkStar is so loud that we did not need to use a mic and boost the sound in this video. Ask Byron "Mr. Talkbox" Chambers... it's just that LOUD (and clean)!!! - Cheers!!

    • @thetalkstar
      @thetalkstar  5 лет назад +1

      The Casio Privia will not work unfortunately. You need a synth that has programmable tones, ideally with sawtooth or triangle waveforms. Examples are the Novation MiniNova, MicroKorg, or Moog Sub37 etc. You could use the Privia via USB control a plugin synth such as NI Massive in a computer, and then route the signal out of an audio interface to the TalkStar. However, this wouldn't be the best way to play talkbox, as lightweight keys and bender/mod wheels are important to the performance.

      Hey Hector, I have used the DX100, Novation MiniNova, and the Korg MicroKorg wit the TalkStar. They all sound amazing!! Currently I am sticking with the MiniNova, which I've made great patches for and love the feel and easy tweak knobs and favorite buttons. Also, the blue lights in the MiniNova match the TalkStar perfectly!!! Purchase of the TalkStar comes with FREE enrollment into my Talkbox Master Class (open 7/1) with great custom patches for most synths used for talkbox. thetalkstar.com

      Hey!! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course!! If you have ever tried the TalKStar and compared the sound to an MXR talkbox, you would understand why it is so much better for synth talkboxing. We always suggest the MXR as a great affordable talkbox to learn, it does the job - BUT for those who want the best sound can choose a professional quality talkbox. TalkStar is a higher cost due to the quality of all the components, and made in the USA by hand., - AND comes with the Talkbox Master Class for those just starting or wanting to improve their skills. Cheers and Happy Talkboxing!!!

    • @thetalkstar
      @thetalkstar  6 лет назад +2

      The pre-order of the first 100 units are priced at $499.95 + shipping. They will unfortunately need to go up after that because there is barely any profit at this price in small quantities of manufacturing and due to the high quality components. The early adopters/supporters get special pricing!!!

      If you own a TalkStar talkbox, it may just be the synth and patch you are using with it. The right tone and output level will definitely determine your final result!! If you were enrolled in the Talkbox Master Class that comes with a TalkStar, you can learn how to program a perfect talkbox patch. or download one of the many we provide. Proper tube placement and use is also explained there, as this can for sure alter the sound you are getting. @thetalkstar  Год назад

      @@0ismael_Sundayz Well like most other talkboxes on the market, the Harley Benton is not designed for use with a synthesizer like the TalkStar is. TalkStar has a much larger horn driver and power amp to handle the large dynamic range of a synth compared to a guitar.

      Hey Scott, wish you wouldn't have had to say the video sucks to get a simple answer about the TalkStar BUT happy to respond... Byron uses a Yamaha DX100 vintage synth which is the same synth the legend Roger Troutman (ZAPP) used for live performances R.I.P. - today there are several more modern synths that sound great with the TalkStar as well - like the Novation MiniNova, Korg Microkorg, Moog Sub37, and even VST synths in your DAW. We offer amazing custom patches for these and more in our Talkbox Master Class that comes free with a TalkStar. Feel free to check out more about the TalkStar at www.thetalkstar.com or ask us any other questions at info@thetalkstar.com - Cheers!

    Way way way overpriced . Basically a speaker and a amp. Nothing special .cut the price in half and we are talking

    • @thetalkstar
      @thetalkstar  2 года назад +1

      Hey Jim, thanks for your comment. We'd like to clarify why the TalkStar is priced this way... It is not just any speaker and amp, it is a custom designed high power horn driver - paired with a custom designed precision analog amplifier - in effect the cleanest and most powerful self-powered talkbox in the world. Topped off with an interactive lighting system to add that extra flash to your performance! It was designed specifically for use with a synthesizer, which requires way more dynamic range and power than a guitar tone. Yes, there are self powered talkboxes on the market for much less, but they are designed (with very low quality components) for guitar and do not handle the range and levels of a synth. Plus TalkStars are hand made in small batches right here in the USA. We like to compare the cost difference to that of a synth like Moog, which is made with higher quality components as well, and typically end up costing much more than mass produced synths from overseas. The TalkStar is definitely not an entry level device, but a professional grade machine. The top talkboxers around the world (like Byron "Mr. Talkbox" Chambers here) use TalkStar and once they switched from an MXR or Banshee, they would never go back! It also comes with free enrollment to our Talkbox Master Class, the only comprehensive online course to master the skills of talkbox, patches, recording techniques etc. Unfortunately with the cost of small batch manufacturing here, we could not sell the TalkStar for less - or we would end up going out of business!! Hope this explains things a bit - Cheers!
