That original Cosworth is a unicorn for sure. 35 years from the factory without being taken apart, plus all services done on schedule. You should ask if they want it custom painted before you send it back to the owner.
In the US we had a GM Cosworth engine, installed in the Chevy Cosworth Vega. They only made around 3,500 of them. But in the 70s everyone thought they had a collector's item so the engines are all over the place today and the cars can be had for I think less than any other Cosworth powered car. The timing belt was double sided. One side was toothed and the other side was ribbed like a serpentine belt and ran the water pump.
These 200 blocks run forever , scrapped a accident damage transit with a really nice 100k engine 2.0l pinto , it had the zing to it when you started it up , anyways, fitted it to a chaps ford Capri , I explained the cam and carb were for a van so the power was down a bit so I'd keep the bits from his old cooked lump , but he said it was fine , last time I saw him 14 years had gone past and the engine had done another 100k miles , just came belts , oil and the occasional tappit check . ( I did the spray bar replacement before fitting it to the Capri)
I've done some plating myself. Have you guys tried a muratic acid dip before? I go from the dip, ( around 5 minutes in a basket) then to the wire wheel, then onto plating. You have to be very careful of the acid, it let's of extreme fumes. Mask and gloves. I do it outside in a 5 gallon bucket. Give it a try on a few bolts etc. It is fast. Cheers John 🍻
Remarkably watchable video guys. The secret to your success is in the informality and the frequency. We get to simply catch up with a couple of (virtual) mates as they go about their profession. After 50 years of hands on motoring I am gaining immense understanding of ICE engines.
absolutely agree i drove my old 110 2.5 na from 30.000 kms to 382 000 kms it took me 26 years.in portugal i changed the oil and filter every 5000 kms new antifreeze every year .in 2012 while up in england my cousin and i serviced the head valve guides seals re rung it homed it and changed the shells with motor in situ.we used it for our horse transport here .we got to old to drive it so sold it for 3 times what i paid for it in 1998 bought the mrs 300 disco ..a farmer from alentejho next county up from algarve bought the 110 to cut cork oak and olives ect Nada electronic he said engine still going fine puffing a bit but old guy is happy . i did my apprentice ship when it was a 3000 mile service or 6000 m when we put new seals in wheel cylinders ect sorry probably to much info and a little to much vinho verde green wine best regards
Idea: Have you guys considered building and selling"Cossie Crate Engines"? You could offer them for a fixed price PLUS an old Cosworth engine in exchange.
Ya lucky turkeys. We had to muck about with pinto engines but they literally ran forever for daily drivers. And a good hot 2.3L setup for mini wings(outlaws) was a hoot tho. About like a souped up go cart lol
I spotted the Hovis tin also, thinking it might be a loaf tin. Being from NZ I had noy heard of Hovis and a quick google confirmed the bread brand. Anthony
My engine measured up the same with standard rings and gasket head had pitting so a little weld all back together now waiting to be dropped in. Build cost well under £1000 parts and labour. I can not see why £5000+ is justified. A lot to pay for warranty

People always said the cossie engine was unreliable but any engine will be if not maintained unless there's a built in design fault like the landtover engine u did
Hexavalent zinc plating, which employs hexavalent chromate produces an iridescent gold/yellow. However this type has largely been banned because it is very toxic, an established carcinogen and is very harmful to the environment. As such it's been replaced by the far less toxic and eco-friendly Trivalent zinc plating which employs Trivalent chromate to produce an iridescent yellow finish.
Daihatsu 300hp, 100hp per cylinder! Not going to happen. 😂Currently 33hp per 330cc cylinder. A Moto3 single cylinder engine would develop about 80hp if it was 330cc. To quite a famous line from the Movie, The Castle, “Tell him he’s dreaming”
The said 3 cylinder engine was used to power the UK market 1.0-litre twin-cam fuel injected intercooled turbo Daihatsu Charade GTti, introduced in 1987, which delivered 104 hp in standard guise. With some serious head work and an 'appropriately' sized (ie. large) turbo-intercooler system it could deliver 300 bhp - in the same vein that a turbo 2.0 Ford-Cosworth achieved up to 580 in 1987 (Dick Johnson/Glen Seton) racing trim. However, the real concern with such a powerful 1.0 litre engine would be - to put it mildly - its longevity.
Hello everyone 👋. Here's one for the comment section. On a 34mm pict-3 carb fuel level in float bowl 18mm from carb top & when i tilt the carb back it drains out of for want of a better word the spout in the throat of carb now im new to this type of carb but tilting it back which raises the fuel level above the spout & it poors out the spout until the fuel level drops below the spout. So effectively if i went up a steep hill or parked on a hill it would empty fuel into manifold. That cant be a thing can it 🤨. Any ideas welcome 👍. This is with lid on & off so not fuel pump pressure cheer's.

Never take anything for granted when building engines (ie piston sizes), top quality stuff has been known to be wrong

fuel fitting comes off the cossie fuel rail with a special tool Lee.
You can make one from nylon on the lathe.
