Incrivel conexão ancestral com marinheiros e carpinteiros do presente. "barcos de madeira, Homens de aço".

Did the keel conform to the designs of the original Viking ships or was it a lead keel like a modern sailboat? Did old Viking ships even have keels? I one of the early videos I saw ballast stones.

tortugabob yes, Viking ships had keels, the word comes from Norse since the keel invention comes from Viking ships..
A keel does not exclude the need for ballast, witch directly translated means 'no cargo'.

An important safety feature on this ship is the engine which is required by the Norwegian government.

@m. rude do you even know how much an entire mast and yard arm weighs? And where would they put them the mast is longer than the ship! Last of all it was the Norwegian government that insisted on two engines for a vessel of this size and displacement not the team, many sail boats cercemnavigate the globe without engines it's not unusual the oars are only to put out to sea and enter docks and marinas.

No, this is a requirement from International Maritime Organization! All you wannabe vikings must realize we no longer live in year 950, grow up! Safety regulations require engines, radio communication, lanterns, gps etc. You will not get an insurance without following these rules. E.g. you must reserve berth in marinas in advance, how do you do that without radio, and knowing where you are and when you will arrive? And a ship with 30 crew and no toilet/holding tanks are not allowed in a marina. A ship like this need 100 men to row, but modern safety regulations limit the number of crew to 30!
