From now on, if I'm ever driving past Iain's workshop in my Jag and a headlamp bulb fails, I'll keep driving! Wonderful stuff, always a joy to watch these videos.
I bet toothpaste would also bring the white up in a less abrasive/aggressive manner. Fantastic upload as ever Iain and kudos for always giving your staff a shout.
One of a kind really. And growing at the kind of pace that one would expect as a consequence. I would like Mr Leno to make the call to Mr Tyrrell inviting the latter to the former's cathedral of car collections for, perhaps, a Lamborghini special. It'll happen eventually, of that I am sure. I mean, I wish it would ;)
Here in Canada we use SOS pads which are similar to Brillo pads but impregnated with a blueish paste that becomes soapy when wet. Makes cleaning much easier and quicker.
"Standards, Standards" I love that!!! So I'm a yank and was taught from a early age to use brillo pads to clean whitewall tires. I used that method on my 56 chevy which had huge whitewall tires. They were always white. Love to see that even a old yank knows how to clean whitewalls like a pro.
WOW, that is an intro. What an engine. This is why we all come back to see Tyrrell's Classic Workshop, you get to see the best in cars presented by the best in cars. Amazing.
that 230SL is right up my alley. I would love Iain to dive deeper into why the 230 is so different from the later 250/280SL. The 5-speed, the wheels, the engine, etc. I always heard that the 230 was the real sports car of the 3.
I'm of the era that I can't wait to see your E-Type content. One of my automotive highlights was being a passenger in a friends E-Type on Torquay seafront in the 80's
Wow! Wow, wow, wow...and wow again. What an episode of TCW! Gosh, we're so lucky to be able to watch these and listen to Iain share the back stories from his vast tome of automotive history and knowledge. The collective skill in that shop is truly mind-boggling. Love the shop update episodes - keep them coming please! Cheers, from this Canuck petrolhead in Singapore. 🙏
Ian, Thank you for another great video. I never ever get tired of looking at those Miuras. I remember Jags like the one you are restoring from era as a kid. There was a gentlemen whom lived near me with a V12 model.
The stories, the filming and the sheer joy from seeing the works properly done, also by your colleagues and peers. As I work on Ukraine, Libya and Iraq for years, I find your production particularly relaxing.
Workshop, museum or jewels vault, we havent seen or hear no engine turning , no wheel spinning but makes you feel the authentic passion for cars, another great video from Mr. Tyrrell !
Iain's excellent, enthusiastic, informative & knowledgeable but relaxed style makes him a pleasure to watch & listen to. His videos are by a mile the best on RUclips. He could teach the BBC's & other channels presenters a thing or two about presentation. So often the latter know little about their subject & try to make up for it with false "pants on fire" enthusiasm.
Tyrrell's Classic Workshop, where "taking a look at something else" is never boring. My favorite part of these is usually the smile on Ian's face when he takes a car out for a quick burn, I mean test drive. They enthusiasm and joy he has never gets old, whatever the car. Thank you for taking the time to share these great cars Ian. Hats off to your team also.
Iain has the right personality for working on an restoring these types of cars. My father and uncle have owned a business in Connecticut for 33 years that specializes in restoration and maintenance on European cars. You need a HUGE amount of patience and skill to do the job well, if you’re the type who gets sidetracked or angry easily, it’s not the job for you.
My favourite by far of all the classic car channels. The comprehensive knowledge, class, and undeniable passion on show here is second to none! (Edited for a couple of commas)
Thank heavens. I was already well into TCW withdrawal, so this video came not a moment too soon. Now, after a dose of Iainy goodness, my world is complete again 😊
My Mother worked next door to Jaguar and was in the office when they pulled the very first E type off the production line. She said the whole office went outside to look at it.
Excellent variety of superb iconic cars - it would be great to be introduced to the owner of the 'BlackForest' Muira and be permitted to see his collection and how the car will be displayed alongside the 'spare' engine. Great video. Thank you.
So humble, so polite and too nice for the motor trade in all honesty. I almost feel Iain even after all these years is probably a little embarrassed and shy when he hands over the 12-page invoice when the jobs done, knowing that if any wife sees it it's instant divorce proceedings. But heck worth it with these beauties, right? How can the EV scene ever capture this spirit and passion born decades ago, these cars are art forms in every sense of the word. How these guys track down throttle bodies/carbs from engines only made in their hundreds 50 years ago is going above and beyond. I struggle to find parts for my BMW e30 and Mercedes 190 jeez.....respect......
Iain Tyrrell, you have formed a team with peerless talent. I’d love to see some content introducing each member of the Tyrrell’s Classic Workshop team and their areas of specialisation.
Watching you clean the white walls was priceless! Iain is a true genius and eccentric Englishman. It’s safe to say we all love you. Thanks for sharing your workshop.
Iain . . . you are a master of presentation, and your channel is remarkably full of information and history. In the 50's and 60's, we used the original S.O.S. scrubbing pads on our whitewall tires. With litle effort, they came out sparking white every time and did not damage the whitewall. Wonder of wonders, they now come in Regular, Lemon, and Lavender! Thank you for your wonderful way of sharing so much knowledge with us . . . we can only hope for more frequent episodes.
Love the fact that I learn something new every time. I'm currently renovating a ford zodiac mk2. I am very much in the same mind set "if it ain't broke don't fix it just clean it and refit it "
man ian reminds me of my dad, he aproached every car with straight logic, never saw him beat by a car, his favorite was the citroen SM wich he claimed was more complex than any italian exotica , much respect ian there are not many like you left to service these quirky machines
Always remember seeing a dark blue Muira with gold sills in a car dealers in east London in the mid 80's. Crazy thing was it was about £100k and it was there for ages!
My word, what a fabulous upload this showing a compilation of pinnacle exclusive vintage car craftsmanship and elaborating on them in a way not seen before anywhere to the best of my knowledge. All the cars you have been presenting here have genuinely literally made my heart pounding. Sometimes, certain types and models can be an acquired taste perhaps, but not today. All of them have been exactly spot on to my uppermost personal taste. Thank you so much for all of this from the bottom of my heart!
Great update. Regarding the state of the Royal white wall tyres, I wouldn't sweat it. Someone is now going to be sent on a random errand to procure some Brillo Pads in Tesco in Woking.
Saddens me a bit when such rare parts go into something as immobile as a table, it being a cool table aside. Love the vids Iain, thanks for bringing them to us. 😊
Tyrell sir, every episode of hour's, just makes my day. Detail, speech style, everything. It is difficult to be a car person in India, you keep my spirits up. Incredible what you noticed about the Rolls of the Duke and Duchess of Kent. Thank you
Patience as a virtue is pretty much a byword in these videos. James' 3-week fabrication of the front grille of the Ferrari is both a testament to skill as well as emblematic of the work Iain and his team perform on each and every project. The background shots are achingly distracting with so much stunning tin, that I have had to replay the video to catch the commentary. Just a joy to watch even when the wheels are scruffy. Hope these video's are registered with the national archives as the skills and knowledge are near priceless.
The Miura Green is what us older folk in Australia refer to as 'Pine/Lime' , the name taken from an ice-cream sold from the '70s, till now, called the 'Pine/Lime Splice' . Thank you Iain for sharing.
The first time I watched one of his videos it was a test drive and I thought the roads look familiar ,I used to use those roads as my motorbike test route
What a privilege it would be, to be in a position to send your cherished car here to have any work done, let alone a full restoration on something stunning . Some absolutely beautiful cars on this episode alone . Some very tasteful colours too in my opinion , the pale blue Lamborghini at the start is just stunning
Very fun video, Tyrrell !! When I was growing up in the late 50s, early 60s in the US, my favorite "Matchbook" toy car was a red Jaguar XKE (I still have it around somewhere!).
I just love these videos. Best twenty minutes of the day watching this. E -Types and Miuras, it just doesn't get any better than this. What a talented bunch of colleagues you have. Thanks for keeping these videos going.
Loved the panning shots of the 230 SL Pagoda where we see the whitewall tyre already in its glory before the clean. All very Blue Peter, "Here's one I made earlier". As always Iain, enjoyed the technical insights in your raconteur style.
Always a pleasure when you upload a new video! Automobile History with a capital "H" and an amazing display of craftsmanship, passion, and knowledge. Fantastic! By the way: in 2008 I rented a 1968 E-Type roadster for a week and drove it all around the beautiful Cotswolds, and loved the car as much as the places. I hadn't realized how rare such a model actually was though!
Enjoying your updates, very little people appreciate the effort going in to bringing the engines to visually and physically correct! I find nothing more satisfying knowing something is done right, even when not on show. Years of main dealer standards and still enjoying to play with older cars I guess! 😁
Love the vids Ian! What a meeting of minds it would be, to have an extended video with your good self and Jay Leno having a walk around either of your workshops. Discussing and reviewing cars that are in the process of being refurbished. Now THAT would be a video for the ages 😉
What an absolute joy to behold! Great video, I love the catch up videos almost as much as the car specific ones. Thank you Iain, this was an unexpected and very welcome end to my bank holiday.
That was most enjoyable to watch all that you do and it must be such fun for you all to do it as well! What a great feast for our eyes! Thank you to you an please pass my thanks to all your team! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌
I'm speechless.... and this doesn't happen very often ! So much beauty, so many exceptional cars, very well narated and explained. This is a real joy to watch.
That concludes another 21 minutes of pure joy. Thanks!
From now on, if I'm ever driving past Iain's workshop in my Jag and a headlamp bulb fails, I'll keep driving!
Wonderful stuff, always a joy to watch these videos.
I recently went to the ER with a bloody nose. $26Ķ later......Let's see what else we can find!
Like me when I pop into the supermarket for some milk.
16:24 Iain the type of gentleman who doesn't mind scrubbing car tyres. His humbleness and exceptional knowledge makes this channel a true gem
I bet toothpaste would also bring the white up in a less abrasive/aggressive manner. Fantastic upload as ever Iain and kudos for always giving your staff a shout.
I'm willing to bet good money that, when the camera was switched off, the young lad in the shop finished all 4 tires.

“It came in for a light bulb”! Beautiful cars, history and a sense of humour.
that made me laugh so hard

I always use a Scotchbrite pad with a dab of Jif on it. I’ve found Brillo pads leave scratches in the rubber.
I’m a scourer sponge type of cleaner. Works great 👍🏼
56 chevy 'standards '??? 😀😀😀Nope.
I am tempted to Brillo my bald pate, but there is something holding me back.
