    Beautiful playing as usual but reminds me of one of my biggest mistakes in life when back in the late 1960s, I sold my Gibson '63 335 for $300 AU in order to pay for an engagement ring of similar price (ultimately itself a costly investment).

    I play the Gibson "ES-335-Dot-Sixties-Satin-Cherry" in duplicate, with one model serving as a backup, alongside a few other high-quality guitars. I love this guitar very much because it is an all-purpose weapon that is suitable for any playing situation and is a dream to play. I was lucky enough to be able to buy it in Germany a year ago for 2,999 euros, which is equivalent to around 3,890 US dollars at the current exchange rate. In the meantime - unfortunately typical for Gibson! -, it has become considerably more expensive, but still nowhere near as expensive as a Gibson "ES-335 1964 Custom Shop Murphy Lab", with which it can easily compete. Another great thing about the Satin Cherry is that it has no bells and whistles like coil splits, which in my opinion distract from the essentials. In short: It is a guitar that I will never part with again and that I can only recommend to anyone interested - before it becomes even more expensive!
    With musical greetings from Germany
    Mic 🙂
    PS: There was nothing wrong with the workmanship and final inspection, otherwise I would certainly not have bought these guitars at this price!

    Love a 335 and prefer it aesthetically to any other guitar but personally the best Gibson tone comes from a solid body Les Paul, especially the Special with p90s. And it sounds even better in TV yellow finish!

    Wow! For some like me, this is the holy grail, very difficult to find them in Australia and quite pricey. I’m surprised with SG price. But my Eastman T486 Goldburst is a great guitar, very versatile. I used to have a red Eastman T386 before that was very good as well. This 335 sounds very nice, I know that you can find alternatives but nothing like the original. ✌️🤩👍🎸

      I just checked, and there's quite a few available if you're willing to buy online, which I probably wouldn't. I've bought a few guitars online, but not in this price range. They are definitely expensive, and each individual shop would only have a couple in stock, unfortunately.

      I auditioned roughly a dozen 335s and a few 339s at my three local Guitar Centers. I wound up getting an Eastman T59/V and don't regret it for a minute. It plays great, sounds amazing, and it was ~ 1,300 USD less than the 335. I've owned several Gibsons - and still own a vintage J-50 - and the Eastman holds its own against all of them.

      @@mikeaustin4138 How do they hold up when you go to sell them? Gibson's are renowned for holding their value, so I'm curious to know whether an Eastman has that quality?

    I just bought the same guitar as well. It was a little disappointing. The nut was not cut incorrectly, the neck pickup was angled down and there was buzzing due to loose frets. A good luthier glued the frets and set it up. Now it plays well.

    • @castleanthrax1833
      @castleanthrax1833 8 месяцев назад +1

      I think the biggest difference between Gibson and others is when you buy used, you can often sell a Gibson for the same price you paid.
      I don't buy a guitar with the view to selling it, but it's nice to know you're not going to take a beating if you do have to sell.

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud
      @JonIsJustTooLoud  8 месяцев назад +2

      It’s all debatable.. for me the Edwards or Tokai is just as nice. But for some, they would prefer putting the brand make where it all started. No right or wrong here✌️❤️

    Hi Jonathan, your magic fingers and mood make this guitar sing. Unfortunately for me, the 3 Gibson ES335 that I tested never satisfied my ears. Only my Tokai ES162 offers me the ES sound that I like. For half the price of the Gibson back in those days (€1600 vs €3200 in 2016)

    Jon, would you please tell us your opinion regarding a good foundational method for adult beginners? I would like to know your thoughts on what would help adults who are diligent with their practice routine. I am inundated with suggestions on Hal Leonard, Berkley method, JamPlay, TrueFire, Suzuki, Fretboard Logic and others. I would like to cut through the fluff and use what will help me progress faster if I'm willing to put in the time. Thank you.

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud

      I can only say you’re more learned than I.. I think the most important aspect is learning and loving how to listen to music as a whole. Many a times we don’t listen at all. And when we do, it’s mostly to the intricacies of the arrangement and parts. We don’t listen to it as a song. Only when we are able to do that, are we able to appreciate the music. And when we start to do that, we will flow and learn how to play with the music instead of for ourselves. ✌️❤️
