Curious to see/hear what you think about that. Personally, I am very happy with it. I think it's a great unit which is able to do so much diverse stuff. I particularly like to touchscreen and ease to create sound signal with amps, cab and Fx
I am always genuinely excited when you get and do new amp modeller/amp tone videos cause your tones are literally some of my favorite on youtube entirely, I cannot wait to see what you do with this!
Congratulations on that stellar purchase! I can't wait to see the a/b videos with this. I'm particularly interested in the rockerverb from the quad cortex.
I have mine for over a year now and I'm still really happy. Sure Neural DSP promised things they couldn't deliver (yet). But with each new firmware release the QC gets better and better. What I like most: touchscreen, UI/UX, flexibility to run multiple amps and captures per preset... I recently sold my Kemper because it felt outdated in terms of UI/UX and signal chain (only one profile per preset). This weekend I had a gig and only used the QC as my bass rig. I created a dual amp setup with an Ampeg and an Orange captures (both stock). One output with cabsim to FOH and and one withouth cabsim to backline bass amp. I was very satisfied and got compliments for the tones from a fellow bass player :) PS: works also really well with York Audio IR's, love it!
I have a ton of tube amps plus most of the Neural Plugins, a helix, a kemper and an axefxIII and I also got a QC recently just bc I want to see how good the captures are vs kemper. GAS is a real thing! Looking forward to see what you do w this and pairing w IRs.
You’re going to love your QC! I got one a few months ago and it’s honestly the best purchase I’ve made for my home studio. You’ll notice the captures sound better than the real amp. I use a load box to capture my amps, throw your favorite IR behind it, and boom you got a killer tone.
@@braxal6983 for sure. I use an XLR to XLR cable and for the load box, I use the twonotes torpedo reload, but I’m sure it will work universally. So the “AMP OUT” portion of the load box connect the XLR cable (female side) and in the Quad Cortex input 1 connect XLR cable (male side). Follow the diagram steps shown on the Quad Cortex capture screen. Turn on your load box, then amp. You can eq on the quad cortex and amplifier as you want. Let me know if this is too hard to follow and I can try to upload a video as soon as I can showing how.
Jimi, I would appreciate that. I tried it one time and all I got was some weird feedback. I hope my unit is not broken for doing capture’s I tried to do a pedal after that and it appeared to work but it did not sound exactly the same.
Looking forward to how you use this and how the capturing works. As a Kemper user, I can agree that the Kemper doesn't always get 100% accurate results, but I have found several workarounds - for starters, don't have any compression pedals or DAW compression on your signals. Also, the Kemper refinement and comparison doesn't always sound accurate until you store the profile can compare the Kemper profile to the amp in your DAW. Once I started doing that, I could further tweak the profile to get it much closer to the real amp and I am satisfied, but not a lot of people seems to talk about the importance of extra tweaking to the profile after the refinement process. A little extra work goes a long way. Ultimately, for me and anyone who might be asking, the Kemper or Quad Cortex are not replacements for amps in a studio setting. They are tools to help get as close to a studio sound as possible so you have a live gigging solution. The Kemper really helped improve transport, load in, and sound checks with my band, and I am sure the Quad Cortex will do the same. But, I never use the Kemper as a 'recording' solution because it is usually faster, and more fun, to use amps and pedals. The Kemper could be a good reamp backup by profiling a recording setup if you need to tear down after a session, but were happy with the tones. So, keep those things in mind with the Quad Cortex as well.
Thanks! Honestly, with how good the captures are, you could use this to capture your amps and use it in final recordings and it will sound great! I still have and love my amps so I'll likely mostly use my real amps for the final recordings, but that's just personal preference. The sound of the captures is just really convincing!
Nice. Look forward to this. I’ve had them all Axe FX, Kemper, Helix, but the QC just “feels” good to me. Still haven’t mastered the captures and hope if all works out you’ll enlighten us. I respect and love your tones! Keep up the great work.
Been thinking about pickin one of these up. I have a few of their plugins. The Soldano, Fortin Cali, and the Fortin NTS. I will always prefer my amps, but the plugins are fantastic for writing. Lookin forward to future videos on this unit.
I got mine from Thomann as well. I think it was the last one in stock. Cheaper than US prices, no VAT, and US customs only charged me $50 for importing it. I basically got mine for $1640 brand new, no wait, and was here in 2 days 🤫
Looking forward to your videos on the QC. You've got all the Real Amps and skills to do accurate comparisons. You've an excellent ear, and the tones you dial in are among my very favorites. I think Tone Capture/Profiles/Matching all point to the same goal of trying to digitally reproduce (and potentially improve upon) what real Amps and gear have given to us. I use an HX Stomp. Thanks
Very interested in your opinion on the Unit. 😊 I myself own a Kemper and do like it quite a bit, but not so much for the capturing of my own gear, but for the variety of sounds you can find in the cloud. It's still an easy way to find good , maybe not perfect tone, but does that really exist!?😂😅 I'm very exited to hear your thoughts in comparison to your experiences with the Kemper. Keep up the good work. 😊👍🤘
I'm very, very interested on what you think about it. After all their more than excellent plugins I was sure the the QC will exceed ALL modelers on the market. According to the reviews it's good but not THAT good. After all I' still very satisfied with the Helix ;-) Will be fun to watch further videos with QC content! Hope you compare it with the Helix and the Neural DSP plugins as well...thanks man! 🙏🏻
@@SonicDriveStudio Oh, then hurry up, Jon :-) You should at least check out their Gojira Archetype (EVH 5150 III) and SLO-100! They are said to be even better (!) than what the QC has to offer currently...
You are right about the Kemper, it does an ok job at capturing but certainly not great. It gets you in the ballpark but never what the amp sounds like. By the time you start tweaking, the amp is lost and you will just settle on what the Kemper gives you.
I did a 1:1 comparison between my Fryette Sig:X mic'ed vs. kemper profile of that setup vs neural capture of that setup vs direct profile and capture into IR of the cab+mic and honestly... The differences between all of them were minimal. Super curious what you'll have to say
@@SonicDriveStudio with the Kemper, I always feel like the first iteration of the profile is a bit far off but gets pretty close though refining. That being said, I have the impression that the QC captures the feel of the amp a bit better than the Kemper. And Kemper's interface on the device itself is a bit... atrocious 😂 but then again, it has the desktop editor which makes up for it to some extent. Still, QC's usability is awesome, being able to easily and comfortably set up a patch within a few seconds.
It's because after doing a profile on the kemper, you need to refine it, if you skip that step, the profile will sound bad. Keith Merrow first videos with the kemper all had this problem and the Kemper profile sounded so bad and different from the source, but nowadays he knows how to use it better. But you should check Lasse Lammert's videos on the Kemper, his profiles are as close as possible to the source.
Nah, I did all that stuff. For ME personally, it wasn't good enough. Just my opinion. I know it works for a lot of other players but it wouldn't surprise me if many of them would switch over to this in the next few years tbh
my impression of Kemper is that, as with many other modellers and profilers, it is a fantastic live tool. It is flexible, reliable, and sounds so good that it won’t ever hold you back. But the last 15-30% comes from the real deal, and that’s gonna matter when recording.
Would LOVE to demo a Diezel. I was actually planning on getting a VH2 but they aren't in stock anywhere. I contacted Diezel to see if I could purchase one from them and they didn't seem interested. So I got a Quad Cortex instead. Never say never though!
@@SonicDriveStudio Awesome! Shame about the stock levels though, hoping you can get it at some point. Looking at Thomann, most of the high end amplifiers are either "On Request" or "Within 12-15 weeks" away, ugh! Hope you have fun with the QC though, looking forward to some demos :D
I haven't picked one up yet. The reason being, IF I understand this correctly, is they really messed up the sharing community. Unlike Kemper, which allows people like Michael Britt and many others to have a viable business creating and selling great "profiles", Neural requires their own network platform for sharing. From my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) the way its currently implemented severely inhibits this type of business. As a result all the people I normally buy Kemper profiles from, can't & don't offer Quad Cortex files. IMO this really curbed my enthusiasm for this unit.
