I love your channel fellow GenXers! I think you motivated me to make some videos again. I have been slacking. Not a lot of old stuff and I don't want to engineer and explain new stuff -- as I do that everyday. But I just need to get creative!

"And we're back." 😂 I'm so glad you showed your eclipse experience. We weren't able to see much here.
Also, I need the tiny Atari. The nostalgia is real. Everything about it makes me happy.

Thank you for your always cool videos 👍
I also received my 400 mini and I even program in assembler with it.
I love programming in ASM 6502. I made a small program which highlights the well-known indirect jump bug of the 6502 and the bug is present on the 400 mini. Fyi the bug was fixed with the 65C02
    See you soon 😉

I got my Atari 400 mini yesterday. Maybe this weekend I'll try it out. I do plan on heading out to VCF on Saturday, though. Hopefully get a chance to meet you ladies. My first "real" computer was a Tandy 1000 as well. I'm impressed what you guys were able to do in Basic back then. My knowledge of Basic was doing Type-in programs only to be frustrated if they didn't work.

Someday I will get to a totality solar eclipse; been in a few partials (including one with my 50x refractor I had as a kid, with a special sun lens.. that would have been in 1979). The Atari does look cute - I have a modern 2600 clone that I have to try out soon (it's been sitting around for awhile - but I was kinda busy with Nitros9... lol)

I'm in Connecticut. Nothing much happened with the eclipse here. I didn't have any glasses, so I couldn't see the eclipse itself, and the light didn't really change. It was cloudy to begin with, and you couldn't tell the difference between the eclipse and the sun going behind the clouds. There was that little change in the light levels.

You ladies gave me much to consider. I had no interest in the 400 plug and play as I thought that was all it would be. But you were able to make a basic computer out of it as it was back in the day.
I have a 400 computer in mothballs right now that I would love to get out of mothballs in hopes of writing games on it (hopefully with assembly or Batari Basic if possible), but if the 400 mini offers the possibility of writing games while taking up less space, maybe it’s something to think about.
You ladies are brilliant and fantastic.

Your excitement at the totality reminded me all over again of seeing my first totality last year. (It was an awesome event. Saw it sitting on a cruise ship off the coast of WA with about 4000 other eclipse chasers. ) There's another one here in Australia in 2028 and I'm hoping to catch that one as well.
Also the Atari 400 is cute! Can you stick a slimline USB stick in the USB port at the back?

The Atari 400 mini looks pretty cool and I agree that the top should pop open for USB drives. That would be pretty rad. There is a mini keyboard conversion for TheC64 Mini that was done on Retro Recipes, so I'm sure it is absolutely possible to do that for the Atari 400 Mini. t would be cool to go to VCF East but it's just not in the cards this year. Is VCF Midwest in the cards for you? That one is fun to go to, for sure.

Hooray! The issue I have with these minis is that the keyboards don't work, which is a shame. I'm very niche as I like typing in BASIC, so not the target audience. And I expect it'd be too small to type on too!

An Atari branded HDMI cable is hard to believe, but an Atari branded USB cable would be appropriate as the SIO cable is the grand-daddy of USB. Just ask Joe DeCuir. And yes, you can run Basic on the 400 Mini. Fortunately, I have two 400 maxis with functioning keyboards and cartridge doors.

oh and on top of me hating traveling, my oldest dog has a degenerative disease. She's slowing getting paralyzed. I don't want to leave her for long. I feel bad enough just going to work every day. She doesn't have much time left. Although she is getting more used to it, I see just how much she struggles to even get up. On Sunday her back left foot looked completely dead. That was her lowest point to date. She is doing better, but yeah I really don't want to leave her. She's my precious baby.

@@fractalMD She saved my life. When I thought I had nothing to live for she reminded me I wasn't alone. And while I do love my younger dog, I've not had it that bad with him. I have friends now. I didn't back then. But I do remember where I was playing a game (Life is Strange 2 actually) where the dog died and I was crying. Zeppelin came running after me to make sure I was ok. lol
I know Abby loves Zeppelin a lot, but until this weekend I wasn't sure it was mutual. Abby can't go to the groomers anymore. She was taking out her frustrations out on the staff. So she can't go back now. So this time Zeppelin went alone. Abby spent the morning by herself for the first time since I got Zeppelin. I don't know if it had anything to do with her suddenly getting worse or not, but I do believe he's the reason she's been fighting it so hard. When Zeppelin got home he lost his dinner and I had to clean it up. I've had him since 2017 and that's the first and only time it's ever happened. So I think them spending the day apart was tough for both.
