- We want to thank Thom van Laarschot for the drone images.
With the RUclips channel of Fire 24/7 we want to show people more about the fire department. Everyone can respond (ask questions, give tips, share tops, etc.) to the images they see. In this way we can learn informally. Formally we learn internally from the images or videos that have been made. The images (including erosion) that are shared here were recorded with GoPro cameras and then edited into one video.
We do our utmost to ensure the privacy of the care providers and victims involved. Relief workers who are visible have given permission for this. Victims or others involved are being watched. Unless otherwise agreed.
The blue thumb serves as a respect to those involved!

STORY OF THE FIRST ENGINE LEADER ON SCENE ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Since there are many “expert” firefighters from the US and German reactions in the comments i will post my reaction in English.
At arrival on scene the inside of the hall was burning completely including the top op the roof (black smoke). Parts of the roof were already coming down on the outside. Explosions from gas cilinders and other pressure holders could be heard. The first officer on scene declared the building “unsafe to enter” and made the initial decision to a “burn down scenario” Hydrants where to far away and 1 hydrant can only sustain 1 engine. While responding to the alarm “grote brand” was given... In Almere there will be send 4 engines and 1 truck mounted platform to the scene, and a large pump and hoses to haul water from upto 1000 meters from the incident. A second large pump was also asked.
The first engine on scene had difficulty opening the gate. The gate was installed recently and the crew was unfamiliar how to open it (agreed). On the other hand... there was minimal damage opening it (just lock and rail). First engine was used to prevent the fire from spreading downwind to the escavators and other trucks and machines. Later all the equiptment was moved by personal of the company under protection from the first engines crew.
The second engine was given the order to prevent the fire from spreading to the “sorting station” and cabins what can be seen in the video.
The fire in the building could not be reached with handheld lines or stationary monitors without entering. The tower platform later used uses 2000l/min water and also could not reach all the burning mass inside. (It was waste from construction sites) The large pumps where needed to get that much water there. The RC monitor used also uses +- 2000l/min so the total capicity water needed was at minimum 4000l/min without the engines using water.

There where no holes made into the walls of the building for 2 reasons.
1. Parts if the roof where coming down.
2. Inside the building a secondary steel wal was installed about 4 to 5 meters high where the waste was dumped against.
No risks of personal was taken. The building was already heavily damaged upon arrival and could not be saved from the beginning. Acces could probably be better but made no difference, also the use of a lonely hydrant 200 meters away to support 1 engine would not have made any difference.
Any advice of using an engine to pull the gate down with chains?? 🙄 dream on!
Fire 24/7 Thank you for giving us a very good description of what you had to deal with. You really had a tough job on your hands.
Never mind those Captain Hindsight guys, especially when they are from Germany. I'm all for a constructive criticism, but second guessing emergency workers in what I consider amongst the toughest and most important job is plain embarressing and insulting. I've said this before here, a very good family friend was a firefighter all his life, died of cancer without ever seeing his pension while saving lifes. Before he died he started to tell some of the horrible things he had to see during his carreer. He was not a very nice guy, but upon hearing his stories, I forgot all of his grouchyness and tough outlook on life. I have a deep respect for anybody going out there day by day for often very little pay, dealing with onlookers, insults and selfappointed experts while saving peoples lives and livelyhoods. Kudos to you.
no winter Thank you for speaking up for the good firefighters of the world. Those who make all the negative comments have never experienced a day in the life of a first responder. When you see the things a first responder sees every day it changes it changes you life forever.

I am retired from a large fire department after 35 years and I like the calmness that prevailed. Thank you Fire 24/7 for explaining their thinking and reasons for reacting like they did. I agree with their thinking considering their limitations. What I do not understand is how and industrial area such as this is not required to have it own water system such as hydrants or huge water tanks that would be for Fire Use Only. I also think that I would have really considered putting one of our rescue chains around that gate, hook it to the engine and simply pull the gate off its tracks and out of the way. Thank you again for the great Vlog and try not to be bothered by the criticism from those who do not know the situation and just like to criticize.

I see the same problems occur in other countries as they do in the U.S., not enough hydrants and water supply to support these huge buildings. No sprinkler systems to catch fires when they are small. Good work guys with what you had to deal with. I have 35 years experience, just retired and these fires are a loser from the beginning and you handled it right protect the responders. I always tell my guys, remember we didn't cause the mess we are just the ones they call to clean it up!

I'm no professional, but they calmly assessed, adapted, overcame, and did what needed to be done to put out the fire, save equipment and infrastructure, and stay safe. Excellent.

I think the peoples (firefighters) in the live fire scenario know what is to do. Mostly peoples looking from the desktop and know it always better. There must be something when firefighters do what they do. Greetings from Germany.

This is an unusual situation where the fire is pretty well contained by the concrete structures, and there is no one in danger. They can take their time. No reason to rush in and risk an accident.

I just spent 20 minutes reading the comments on this video and they basically sum up human intelligence these past two thousand years. You will always get people who assume they can do a better job and people who will always try to put others down to feel better. No matter what you do in life there will always be someone who tries to correct you or tell you what your job it. Thankfully thought there will always be people who defend you and stand their ground against these people who try to spread their opinions as facts. So many people talking bad about these firefighters and acting like they would do better without realizing they had no water supply, how in the world will these people in the comments fight a fire better with no water. Thankfully there are always people to point out the facts these geniuses have conveniently missed. Seriously this happens in every profession so if you are the type who think you know better without having any knowledge or experience in that subject then just do what the rest of us do and sit back and enjoy without trying to correct professionals with your opinions, you will probably enjoy life for once if you did.
I just don't talk with/on topics that I have zero knowledge about. Apperently that's not how some individuals are thinking. I admire the videos and assume the firefighters know what they are doing.
@@MRjesseNL That's also how i live, i'll not talk about things i know nothing about, i'll only correct people on things when i know i'm right about it, the most annoying thing is when they get angry / frustrated because i called them out for not knowing their shit, like bich shut up if you don't know what you are talking about, or accept when people call you out on your bs. I used to think only some people were that stupid, but then corona happened and all of a sudden it seemed like 60% of humanity just bought a medical degree from ebay, so it seems we are a minority, it's problematic really

Short recap for English speakers, they deemed the building unsaveable, there weren't any fire hydrants nearby so no where near enough water for a building that size they had to cut open the entire gate for their vehicles. At the end of the day it was a single storage facility for construction garbage so really no loss here

Well done! A tricky situation to deal with, I imagine once a rubbish fire takes hold it would be very difficult to control.

Leuke film. Blijkt weer eens hoe de afvalverwerking in sommige delen van Nederland het "prima " voor elkaar heeft. Geen aanvalsplannen en toegang met sleutelkluis. Geen enkele watervoorziening. Dat de provincie en gemeente hiervoor een vergunning afgeeft is discutabel te noemen.

A Lot of so called experts online today, first up no one was hurt so first priority ticked off, as far as time taken to attack fire, the building was never going to be saved so exposures are next priority, the fact water was an issue made all tactical decisions different compared to having water, remember fighting fires in real life is not like the movies , all in all great job imo.

opening the gate by opening the electrical panel and pushing in the contractor for motor would have been far quicker and less destructive
To anyone bitching and moaning about these guys 'not doing enough', at 7:50 they mention they don't have access to water anywhere in the area. That's why they couldn't do anything at first. Another team is working in that issue. In the meantime the team on film decides to scout around to assess the situation and come up with a plan for when the water can be brought up.
You have a freaking robot? Your country and or community must really value the fire service and fully fund you!

Wim. I'm sorry that sitting at home watching this, you feel like you could have done better. These videos, while fun to watch, are more educational in nature than anything. The benefits we have watching are being able to look at things from a 30,000 ft perspective and think about what we would have done differently. I don't think that gives license to throw grenades at the men and women who were actually on the ground. Why not ask a constructive question about your concerns instead? Maybe we would all learn something by it.

Gewoon vandaag bij de Brand/Ontruiming/Communicatie training hebben ze dit filmpje laten zien. Met de info dat het de brandweer niet altijd even gemakkelijk wordt gemaakt. Als persoon zijnde wil je de goedere beschermen maar als de Brandweer geen sleutel/loper heeft wordt het ook in dit soort situatie’s moeilijk voor jullie! Desondanks top werk geleverd.
Mannen tip voor de volgende keer: waar jullie die rail losknipte, kun je de kast openmaken en het loopwiel vh hek in idle stand zetten, dan hoef je het hek niet te slopen en kan je m zo openrollen......en werkt iets sneller.

In geval van calamiteiten zou het hek op afstand of zo idd snel open moeten kunnen. Onbegrijpelijk dat je dan als hulpdienst voor een dichte poort staat... Moet je als politieagent toch ook niet aan denken als er iets op het terrein gaande is...?
Way to go with the Holmatro jaws and cutters at the gate. In the US we could use a ksaw but it is nice to see someone thinking outside the box and use the equipment for more than what is is used for 99% of the time. Btw Holmatro is the best ever made. We have used them for years. Good job
Battery powered tools are nice as hell if you can get them. Our older power unit tools are only used on multiple extrication's because the battery tools are so easy and fast to use.

I help manage a small townhome complex in Tucson and I'm no fire expert. In the complex we have two hydrants. I have them checked and flushed at regular intervals. A large business like this in Tucson would more than likely not get a certificate of occupancy unless they had hydrants installed. We also have a large outdoor recycling center and it constantly catches fire.
Well, too bad a modern industrial park doesn't have sufficient water supply. I don't understand that, but there it is.
Tinderbox Watersupply is the responsibility of the city if the building is within 80 meters from the public road.

As someone else mentioned. This is why you need a knox box. But also surprised they didn't have a "fire watch" guy on site. Almost all facilities have security that really serve as a fire watch to give fire departments access and or call them in the case of a fire.

I used to install gates like the one in this video, idk about where you are, but the ones in my area are legally required to have a bright big obvious labeled release button that will unlock and open the gate. Kinda seems like it would have been less than an issue if that were the case here.
Most gates here are either swingers that have a bolt to disconnect or a roller chain that can be cut, then you are in. It just takes heavy tools like those jaws.

Мне одному показалось, что...:
- 15 минут не то что воду подать, даже подготовку к развертыванию не проводили;
- огонь распространялся в сторону ворот, а ствол ввели с другой стороны...
- много разговоров и мало действий, наверное это приехали члены ДПО))))))))
- оснащение у них на высшем уровне
Снаряжение на высоте, а вот действия ооочень долгие, думаю что у них это норма, так как все застраховано. Но смотреть противно, кофе бы еще попили. Гордость за наших пожарных.

This is good firefighting. Made all the right calls. Getting the gate open 3 minutes sooner wouldn't have made a difference in this case.
When you are a German firefighter, you have the best tooling available on the market! Much respect!

No "smoke eaters" in this vid which is good. Mask on at all times when on the fire ground. Here in the US we still have the mindset that you're a pussy if you wear a mask. Thankfully those thoughts are changing slowly but they are changing. Love the fact that when those brothers got off the rig they were in full protective gear.

No need for heroics here stand back and get a game plan together. Remember this is no more than an overgrown dumpster fire. To many 2 and 20 folks on here letting your youth make a bad decision.
Remember the Golden Rule of “Protect Life and Property” That means your life also. You could tell from a mile away that this would be a defensive operation. Once the fire got into the roof, there was no way that any command officer was letting anyone into that mess.

I agree sir. We always say, it's risk versus benefit. If someone was trapped inside then maybe (if conditions allow) send a team in...here there was obviously no one inside so there is zero need in sending teams in and risking the already severely compromised structure falling in on them. Protect exposures to prevent any other property damage and use monitors and aerial equipment to do the rest. Building was a loss on arrival and materials inside were refuse/recycling anyhow. This is why companies buy insurance to begin with.
I retire soon after 30 yrs most of which as an oic. Your comment is spot on.

Moet toch verschrikkelijk zijn om aan te komen en niks te kunnen doen...... Eerst al dat je moeite hebt om binnen te komen doordat de poort dicht is en daarna er achter te komen dat het pand niet meer te redden is....

Just found you on YT. My family is from the Netherlands. I love to listen to you speak. Reminds me of my late mother. 😊 I always thought I could understand it fairly well, but I realize I haven’t heard it spoken in so long that I don’t understand. My parents never spoke Dutch once they came to the US. So I never learned to speak it. Godspeed en blijf veilig.

Wat raar dat het hek op slot is terwijl op 3:15 te zien is dat de opbergkast van de brandblusser open staat wat suggereert dat er door iemand een bluspoging is ondernomen, tenzij die kast altijd al open staat. Ook apart dat zo’n toegangshek geen override heeft voor noodsituaties.
Enfin, respect voor onze hulpverleners!!!!

As an American I really dig how the mask attaches to the helmet, no need for a chin strap then or messing up your head sock. Also God I hate caged ladders

@@nayronverbeek2324 thx for this observation^^ I wrote it a little bit too strange. I´m from Germany and I never saw a channel like that one on German RUclips. I would say the Netherlands have better laws which allows a channel like this one.
You may check out "Feuer und Flamme" though, not as raw and "uncut"-like as this, but it uses a lot of GoPro footage aswell! :P
Firefighting was the only job I loved and I had lots of jobs in my day. I miss it and wish I could go back.

We have those drones too, but we use them on the big chemical plant fires. 3 men running a big hose generally stay out of the building and just throw a LOT of water at it.

Who planing a Industial Area without supply of Hydrants ? The Firefighter did thier best,. Much more Units are on the Way. But no Water is a fail , made by the community.
hydrants in the Netherlands tend to be hidden underground, they open up a small manhole cover. and then attach the hydrant which is carried inside the truck.
then again, why do you need hydrants everywhere, in a country that has an irrigation ditch every 100 meters or so.
@@LodewijkVrije In Germany the Same. You have special Signs at the Street that say where a Hydrant is. But here is not ditch and or Hydrant. I think there´s in the planing went something wrong. Have also a System with Single pipes ,Ring Pipes and Zyterns.(Water Box Undergrund with a limited amound of Water.)
What are you, an American? Though out Europe the hydrant system is completely underground. In England, for instance, they look for a marker with an "H" on it indicating where the water main is. They open a small hatchway and attach a standpipe to it. That system was originally used in early America as well. Water mains were wooden pipes which firemen would have to break into causing the water to spray out. They would somehow fit the end of their hose into it. Needless to say, they leaked a lot of water. Even here in Germany over Floor Hydrants and under floor Water cistern with a universal cluth for connection. We have also Signs for Hydrants. "H" then 2 Lines on a "T" form where Numbers are printet on. On Number give the Distance to the Left or right and the Other Numer the Distance straight out.

They look how they can save the other buildings and prevent the fire to take over the whole area. And last but first! There are no lives in danger, so calm down. The hall was lost anyway.
