      @@chasemartin5373well throws to 1st are typically a straight line so maybe he isn’t as good at adjusting to hit all parts of the plate when he throws or maybe he couldn’t develop the breaking balls like he wanted to and realized he might have a better chance on the field? Who knows

      @@coreystenson2010 This is what Winn had to say about why he isn't pitching for the Cards: "I’m not a pitcher because the Cardinals and I decided that’s the easier route to go."

      He could be a pitcher, but he and the Cards decided to transition him exclusively to short.

      Out quicker what? Cause he “hesitated”? He knows how fast he can throw compared to others, that extra speed seems to make the difference in him being able to take his time vs others getting it thrown right away

      100%. He’s double clutching and crow hopping so that he can get highlight-worthy throws. It’s unnecessary if you’re actually trying to make the play and not just show off.

      @@Steve.._. absolutely not. Have you ever watched baseball? And it’s okay if you haven’t, but the double clutch and extra hard throw doesn’t help. Throwing normally without hesitation would undoubtedly get the ball to first base much quicker (yet wouldn’t be as flashy, so he wouldn’t make highlight reels, which is what he’s going for).

      turns out he's a better defensive shortstop than cruz this season by about 6 OAA and 4 FRV. needs to hit the ball as hard as he throws it, though, but that'll come with time

      Not how that works. It comes down to mechanics. Someone throwing 60 with bad mechanics is just as likely to blow out their arm

    We had a shortstop like this back in high school, and one day, we were taking rapid infield drills that required constant substitution so everyone got multiple reps. There were four of us at first base, and the late afternoon sun was always RIGHT behind third base, completely blinding us from any incoming throw from 3B/SS. One of our heavier first basemen’s turn came up against the shortstop who threw about 94, and all he could was squint and shrug right before the ball nailed him in the belly. It left about a basketball sized bruise

    I loved hard throws. They bounce hard and you dont have to stretch as much, just gotta move your hand towards your body when you catch it, takes the sting away most the time
