I saw him in a rodeo arena in rural Missouri the year before....he performed this medley and made me wanna grow up and take Pete Mitchell's job....never made it but I played the Midnite Jamboree with Glenn Douglas Tubb and Leon Rhodes played guitar for me....biggest honor I'll ever have...friends this is "Country Music" in it's purest form. The real deal.

This is an awesome video. Ernest Tubb going back to his beginning when he was starting out some 43 years prior to this tribute performance to Jimmie Rodgers on his 1936-37 songs he sounds just like Jimmy and even yodels on his early performances. Great tribute to them both. Thank you for sharing this with us. 🤠🎶

What A Great Talent And Gentleman. Thru the years no one was ever able to duplicate Mr. Tubb’s distinct voice and delivery. He will live on forever.

I saw Mr. Tubb in Sep 1968 when I was 14. We were early - arriving before his bus. I was standing close to the door, hoping to get a glimpse of Mr. Tubb. He put his guitar case and hat on the seat behind the driver' seat and sat down in the driver's seat. I raised my camera for a picture and someone two seats behind saw me and pointed me out. Mr. Tubb opened the door and said "Come on in here, son. I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't take a picture of me with my hat off, I'm Ernest Tubb. What's your name?" I almost fainted! I told him my name and that he was my second - favorite singer. He asked who is number one? I told him he probably wasn't old enough to have heard of Jimmie Rodgers, the singing brakeman. Someone in the bus snickered, and Mr. Tubb gave him a sour look, then looked at me with a big smile and said "He's my number one favorite, too." He told me about meeting Mrs. Rodgers and how she helped him. Later, he picked me out in the crowd, sang a Jimmie Rodgers song and tipped his hat. I have two autographed pictures and an autographed album. I also have some pictured taken with my camera. He's still my Number Two favorite - after Jimmie Rodgers. I have a complete set of his 78's - including the three Bluebird 78's. Thank you, Mr. Tubb, for being so kind to a skinny 14 year old boy!!

      @@kennydobbins1345 I love Johnny Cash's music. I saw him in Memphis in March 1968 - a great show. I fell in love with Maybelle Carter (I was 14 years old). I hope E. J. wasn't jealous. I have a small stack of unplayed Sun 78''s and 45's from the 1950's (=/- 50.)

This was from a 3 hour NBC show called "50 Years of Country Music" from 1977. Each hour was hosted by a different major star; Johnny Cash, Dolly Padron and Roy Clark. I audiotaped the whole show on cassette when it first aired.
