I'm planning to use a screw in 3/8 quick release on the bottom where the tripod attaches and hang the gimbal upside down. Reversing the camera direction will avoid the rear motor getting in the way ...still waiting on my easyrig to be delivered but theoretically it should work. After that it's just a matter of how well I can walk to avoid too much bouncy up and down motion
Scott Dumas What 3/8” screw you want to use? I have the Minimax with gimbal vest but I thought (hoping) it could work if I just hook it to the smartsling handle on top and use it in underslung mode. Any thoughts?
NIce First impressions video. It can't be better than this, I can't understand how people would dislike this. I was lashed at for my video of the Crane 3S and of course not constructively, which isn't helpful, so am looking around to learn a thing or two for better presentation and I found your video, yet still getting lashes. Well, good job bro, keep up the good work and am on board now, so i'll be watching.
Hey, appreciate that! Yeah, people love to hate haha. I literally stressed in the opening that it was just an unboxing and very first impressions. But, people still watch to the end then complain. C'est la vie lol. Anyway, thanks for watching and keep in touch!
Is there any way (potentially with an smallrig adaptor or something) to somehow mount this gimbal to the Ronin M Ring? Also would Zhiyun's tripod quick release adaptor work on the 3/8th screw mount?
I don't think it would work on the Ronin M ring specifically but I know that (at least) DigitalFoto is making a ring for it and I'm sure SmallRig will soon too, maybe others including Zhiyun themselves. As for the tripod quick release adapter I think it should work but you'd just need to use a 1/4-3/8 adapter.
Mine is already shipping. My Question would be what accessories you think would work best with this? Easy Rig knockoff brands you have heard of? Should we go first part for follow focus, or will the Nucleus Nano work?
Awesome! Hope you enjoy it. I did find the follow focus to work really well so far, and it's so nice to have it integrated into the grip. I haven't used the Nucleus Nano myself so can't say much more unfortunately. Taking a hand off to work that focus does mean it gets heavy on the other hand though so I'm going to try out a couple of different supports for it and I'll get back to you on that (in video form haha). I got the Flycam Flowline Master version of an Easyrig (was going to grab a used Minimax, but the Flowline has a bigger payload for the same price as a used Minimax)... hasn't been delivered yet but from my experience with Flycam it seems better than the super cheap no name knock-off's... a kind of happy medium for people who aren't doing huge long jobs with a big budget. I also have the Flycam version of the steadicam vest/arm and will be getting an adapter to throw the Crane 3S on top of that so we'll see which works better. My expectations are that they'll both have pros and cons- the main con of the vest/arm being the limited height adjustment because of how it sits. The main con of the easyrig likely being that a serene arm type attachment will probably be almost a necessity. Looking forward to seeing how that all goes. Thought about a non-serene arm easyrig (flowline, lol) but on skates or something like that to avoid the bounciness. Wouldn't work on all terrain but it might be a great combination too. Sorry for the long reply!! :) Cheers!
You can slide the mounting plate side to side but I haven't checked carefully how much movement there is. Will be sure to check that and include it in another part of the video series!
I'd say yes and no... If you have a larger camera rig that is pushing the limits of the Air 2, 100% go for it. It's so nice to not have to strip down the build and figure out how to rig a monitor separately every time. But, if not, the Air 2 still does very well and I have very little to complain about with it. The Crane 3S is heavy, and if you like the design but don't need the size, the Crane 3 LAB or Weebill might be something to consider. :)
Nice one Scott, I just got one too. I was interested in what you said about the handle, I found it quite lightweight too, the little wheel and small lcd really don't seem the best.
Thanks! Yeah- it's just weird that it feels quite different from the super solid build of the rest of the gimbal. No problems so far, but kind of threw me off haha.
@@ScottDumas yeah, honestly, it's a Chinese thing. I've seen a lot of other manufacturers go down the same route. They're making a product designed for expensive heavy cameras yet make a handle like that, I dont get it. The grip on the DJI Ronin S is really good. The quality is awesome. Zhiyun should make a new handle for this setup even if it cost like 300, itd be worth it.
Hope you get it soon! :) Played around with the follow focus today too and it's definitely nice and smooth, seems responsive and with good reactiveness to even small movements (the follow focus). The gimbal does get very heavy at that point though so we'll see how much I can go without additional support haha. Cheers!
@@ClaytonOrgles The motors aren't very heavy themselves... with the gimbal and all probably about 7kg, but the problem then is just that using the follow focus means you can only hold the weight with one hand. Gets heavy much faster haha. Still a pretty sleek system overall just gotta get back to the gym :)
Hey there Scott, great to see you already have one! A very important question, does it let you run the gimbal with the pan motor disabled/locked? This is a critical feature for being able to run this in a Trinity style setup that I’ve been looking to build for years at a much lower price point!
Hi! I'll have to look into that a little further... there is of course a full lock mode but I'm assuming you mean only pan-lock with follow in the tilt and/or roll direction?
@@ScottDumas kinda, it's a mode you can do on the Ronin 2, think having the Pan motor disabled and the lock engaged so you can't manually whip pan with the other two axis in various follow or tracking locked modes. Does that make sense?
@@TheTechnoPilot Uhm... a little bit, haha :) So essentially the ability to disable the pan motor is what you'd need? Not just put it in lock (not follow) mode, but actually disable it so you can then use the physical lock in order to get whip pans?
@@ScottDumas exactly, you got it! Check out how the ARRI Trinity works and imagine mounting the Crane on the sled or in replacement of on a Steadicam. Though not often seen the Ronin 2 can already do this and it's a specific feature of the gimbal; for a gimbal of this caliber it's a feature I would hope it could/would have.
If you're excited about getting this product then I'm going to let you know now DON'T BE! it's not ready to scale. DO YOUR RESEARCH! and not from Zhiyun either but from the non sponsored customers. They will tell you the truth. Most people who've had problems with it have had to fight very hard WITH NO PAYOFF! A disappointed realization. Hope that other people comment and speak up about his as well.

No one forced you to watch lol... that's exactly why I made it clear at the beginning of the video what it was going to be about. And that there WILL be more videos coming.
I want to see it in action with an Easyrig. And how to mount this thing to the Easyrig!
Juul Thielen wondering how to mount it as well. probably with the 'plastic arm'?

Someone else posted that underslung mode was vibrating and wouldn't stabilize. Curious to see follow up testing and footage on yours. Cheers.
+T.J. Penton will keep an eye out for that! I did notice a little at first but it seemed to be fixed by adjusting motor strength... for now at least

Absolutely :)
What's the differance between Crane 3S and Crane 3SE ? Thank you for the informations. time to watch the other 16minutes review video now ;)
I think that the E refers to the easysling handle... since you can have the smart sling or easy sling options :)
