One thing I just thought of. They want to go door to door to see who is supposed to be living there and not living there. Why do they need to shut down the building to do this? Why don't they just do that now?
I checked out the street views of the building on Google Maps and it's pretty crazy seeing the building and street change over the years. The biggest red flag is nearly every car parked on the street in Nov. 2023 had one or more of the following: damaged or missing bumpers and quarter panels, peeling/failed clear coat, duct tape or a spare donut or mismatched wheels. What's on the outside of homes and buildings is usually similar to what's inside.
It reminds me of the apartment where the relative came to clean and never left, and had to be evicted, and then her friends she invited to move in had to be evicted too. That was a case where the landlord had to get court orders before the police would do anything.
I live right next to this complex and it’s been out of effing control for the last year or so, to say the least. Over 1,000 911 calls in the last few years too (found through CORA open records request). There is no helping this complex at this point as the landlord have completely neglected control. It’s a hotspot of constant gunshots, shootouts in the parking lot, and the most insane crimes you’ve ever seen. As someone who has first hand lived near this, along with my neighbors, the crime at that complex is 100% NOT being exaggerated. 3 of my neighbors living right next to it have had bullets through their homes and fences. One neighbor was shot at in their yard and beaten by a member of this complex and then forced to move (thankfully survived). It’s a shame many reports never mention what the neighbors of this complex have gone through. It doesn’t just affect the people living directly in the complex. Our community deserves peace again. Also there were absolutely gangs here. Our neighborhood safety org met with the Colorado division of the FBI along with police chief Chamberlain and this was confirmed multiple times. It’s a shame this information was denied from the neighbors for so long.
Was the landlord like in with the gang or anything? Because he saw that the gang was starting to take over and apparently didn’t try hard enough to stop it and just let it. It’s a shame too because I’m sure a lot of the tenants can’t afford the average rent prices. I would be cool to see it refurbished and used for some good, like keeping the price decently low and renting to single moms or used as a homeless shelter or something.
Or trying to cover it by keeping most of it on the downlow and what info they do release Im sure is to make them look like they r helping. My town has a high crime problem for the area and the elected officials ignore it. I live in a beach town so a lot of out of town people have summer homes along the shore that are expensive. My town is trying to draw those people to move here permanently by building unaffordable apartments and stuff but it’s not gonna work. My town has always had a bad crime rate and nothing ever changes. Once it starts trying to put a stop to it seems almost impossible
The city I live has high crime and poverty rates and the cops for my town and most around me have done something like that at some point, in my town a cop I talk to at my job said it’s often because they either know they won’t catch the person, or because some places are very difficult to help, he said they get tired of going to the same calls that will have the same outcome all the time. It’s no excuse but I understand his point of view. I don’t agree with it or excuse it in any way but it’s very common for police to not help until it’s to late
Still sounds like a problem the property owner is at least partially responsible for what's going on at its two buildings. They aren't in control of who's living there and have let the building go to shit. A property owner needs to evict unauthorized tenants way before it gets this out of control. Why is this happening just at this landlord's properties? Also, code violations and "property management issues" aren't mutually exclusive with crime. Code violations and "property management issues" is how they go after the landlord.
These properties are almost entirely illegal immigrants from Venezuela. The state offered grants to landlords who would house them. As I said in the video some of these properties have been sold or are managed by different people now and are having the exact same issues. It is hard to evict people when the state and city make it as difficult as possible.
Maybe the landlord got involved with the gang or the crime somehow and that’s how they could get him. That would make way more sense than putting him in jail for not being able to stop it. I agree he let it get out of hand, and maybe he did on purpose but he also may not have meant to. Once the gang took over it was probs really scary for the owner and I’m sure he didn’t know what to do since the cops wouldn’t help. Honestly if he tried to much to stop it they may have tried to hurt him or something worse. Feels like a bit of a coward move for the cops to not wanna deal with the crime but expecting him to
Feel bad for property owners it’s easy to turn around a property but once gangs get a foot hold there not much you can do. One property in Newark put in a police field office in a unit but it was owned by government. This helped
Exactly! I’m sure the old owner tried to do something but I could imagine it’s a helpless and overwhelming situation to try to comb through. The police should have at least talked to him and offered tips or something on things he could have done to at least deter some of the violence. Like maybe at night a cop in a cop car could have maybe parked out front or something just to make there presence known. My town has high crime rates and even small stuff like that can help at least for a bit. It makes me wonder what’s going on inside that police department that we don’t know about or wouldn’t approve of
Do you do Background Checks on your Tenants? I think The higher ups in crime prevention want Landlords to do background checks? But they still be crazy telling landlords that the Police aren't suppose to help with crime.. OMG.
He said this in another video. How do you do background checks on somebody who is not supposed to be here and has no background in the United States? The government was encouraging landlords to take these people in and rent to them, but you can’t do a background check on them.
@@4EyedFoxalso what kind of information found on a background check makes them eligible to rent from you? Do you take any factors into consideration when looking at someone’s background check? Do you pull credit scores or anything?
Not always, but there is enough blame to go around - law enforcement AND property owners. You can't do everything, but you can be more circumspect about who you rent to, who you do business with; you can be more cognizant and mindful of the properties you have and what is going on at those properties. If you don't, you're part of the problem. There are some things that are out of your hands and you can't be responsible for everything or for doing the cops' jobs, but the cops do need the community to assist them. The apathy and downright obstinance of the community sometimes obstructs cops (or at least the GOOD cops anyway).
I 100% agree with you! I’m sure for the owner it was very frustration and challenging to not have the police’s help, but it feels like he eventually gave up. If this is a low income area or high crime or both, if it’s too expensive no one will rent it but if it’s too cheap that can also bring problems. The old landlord may have even been working with the gang somehow to benefit himself if he figured out he couldn’t get them to go away. Police probably didn’t help because of the constant nature of the crime/911 calls. It’s very wrong of police departments to do that kinda thing but I see it happen way to often
do you ever think its the state of colorado causing the problems and if the cops tried to do the right thing and it goes south, then the state will throw them in jail? Cops dont file charges, district attorneys do
The police have their hands tied by left wing policies that make it so if they do arrest someone, they get out almost immediately. We have District Attorneys and Judges and whole governments that are the blame!
Even if it’s super corrupt or something nothing will change or be done about it I’m sure. To jail the landlord for not being able to stop the crime is bs. He did his part by calling the cops. It’s good they are ig trying to handle the crime but how they are doing it is not greet.

No thanks 😅😅

In this case they are breaking in and trespassing
@@investfourmoredoes your state have squatter rights or squatter laws or anything like some states?
Time for the National Guard.
Been time....😢

I thought legally tenants had to have a certain amount of time to vacate. Ik every state is different but that’s not fair to the residents at all
There are many laws about that unless you are the government. then you ignore the laws.
