Nah Pete is on a whole other level compared to Premier. Sonically Pete is supreme. Premiers sound is very limited. Real musicians know:
In terms of sheer quantity of well known songs produced then it’s Dj Premier. But in terms of quality it’s a lot closer when comparing the top producers. This where someone like Pete Rock comes in to his own.
This was a battle in Tokyo, Japan sometime between 2009 to 2012 and I was mad as hell that I missed it while I was living there. To me Primo, Pete Rock, and Large Pro are "The Trinity". Then again I can't forget Marley Marl, Rick Rubin, Ced Gee, Erick Sermon, Sir Jinx, The Bomb Squad, Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, K-Def, Cold187UM, Dr. Dre, RZA, Havoc, Da Beatminerz, Diamond D, Lord Finesse, Lord Jazz, Kay-Gee, A-Plus, Domino, too many DOPE DJ's/Producers from '87 to '99 to name.

That aint true but the classic album part might be true
Pete ALL DAY! Just listen to the instrumental of “For Pete’s Sake”. That is technically the most musical, bass heavy, ornate, syncopated, soulful produced beat in hip hop. He uses at least 7 completely different samples and layers for one joint. To be able to match the key scale and tempo of each sample with the limited technology back then is insane. He rhymes and also cuts on the beat. CL Smooth’s verses are super cold on that joint too. I love Preemo too, but I’m sorry, Pete’s in another universe.
I grew up on both but for me it's Pete Rock. "In the flesh" and dasefx real hip-hop remix are a testimony of his genius.

Primo is like the Stanley Kubrick of Hip Hop: the one whose uncanny dissonance connected with fans and especially other artists, and it credited the entire art form to the masses.
Pete Rock is more like Hitchcock: the perfector of the classical form.
Pete Rock is 🔥, Preme using sampled voices from one or more artists and scratches as a staple for the chorus alone of most tracks he produces. That is his brand and makes him stand out. When you hear his production you hear NY instantly even though he is born and raised in Houston. Case Closed.

Pre 2k Id say Preem easy but since then PR really came up - especially his Camp Lo beats.
Soul Survivor is to me one of those albums that i listen from begining to the end without skiping a song, but Preemo has impacted me much more with his style etc.

Same here, but I could say the same about 'Moment of truth'. They both created masterpieces, but overall I'd say Premo was more consistent, and his signature sound is so unique, you hear the first kick, you know its Premier.
@@Well_Its_Me true, Moment of Truth is to me as well just one of those albums like for example another ones are KRS-One album KRS One or House of Pain album Same as It Ever Was, here i'm talking about DJ/producer albums that had multiple featured MC's and Pete Rock crushed it with production, no producer made that kind a album, maybe Dr.Dre's 2001, but Dr.Dre's 2001 to me is not better than Soul Survivor no way 🤘🏻🖖🏻✌🏻

If you would have asked me maybe 5 years ago, I would have said Preemo. Today? I’d say both. The way Pete puts his joints together is damn near scientific, the layers and textures to his joints. What’s ill to me about Preemo, though? His sample choices. You go to any other producer’s sample sources and you can hear what they heard and why they would flip that sample. You go to Preem’s samples and 9 times out of 10, you’re like “WTF made him flip THAT??” Dude’s ear is just different. Salute to the both of them…

I mean everyones entitled to their own opinion but I just know what my ears like and the complex dimensions of styles that Pete has conpared to Premier (who I love as well). I just feel like if they ever had a beat battle, Pete would win. Im not talkin about a Versuz style battle. Im talkin about take a sample from scratch and comeback in 15-20 minutes with something. I got my money on Pete all day. Lastly I'll say Gang Starr's The Militia, Das Efx Real Hip Hop amd Jeru's Cant Stop The Prophet. Who outdid who?...Yeah thats what I thought.
