I didn't catch what the guy @4:00 is talking about in the report(even though its on page 1), but in case anyone missed it, they reported the initial cost of the system to be $45 billion and current estimate as $79 billion. However, the $45 billion figure is for the entire system as originally envisioned including San Diego and Sacramento((phase 1 AND phase 2). The $79 billion figure is only for the system from San Francisco to Los Angeles(phase 1). While they are proceeding with environmental review, there is absolutely no plan to build, nor timeline for the phase 2 section to San Diego and Sacramento. If I recall correctly, the initial cost estimate for the S.F. to L.A. portion was $32 billion. The old guy also doesn't address the fact that YOE for everything outside of the Central Valley is unchanged from the 2018 report despite all of it being delayed indefinitely. This means inflation renders current estimates as underestimates as well.
Director Shank ,Here to pilfer more funds .Vice Chair Richards ,Here to suggest a forth gas tax to pilfer even more funds .Director Curtin ,Here pay my ass !!! Director Lowenthal ,Here because lord knows we need more Directors .Director Kamatso ,Here i concur we can never have enough Directors .Diirector Miller ,Here -Wait i am a Director ?? Cool Beans !! Chairman Donsia ,Here with bad news seems there was a typo .Instead of a crap ton of Directors we needed a crap ton of Conductors .We are gonna have to scrap everything and start over .
So what exactly are "they" bidding to "maintain" for 30 years or 20 years with your fantasy figures of "50 years" for "rail" and "100 years" for "bridges" and your as-yet non-existent "rolling stock" and everything else they're not only getting "custody" of brand-new" but also don't have to pay anything to "replace" while simultaneously deciding what needs "replaced" and when? There's no "maintenance" or responsibility to provide any "services" there at all. Hell, I'll submit MY BID right now as a "retired" UPRR locomotive machinist, 25+ year professional diesel mechanic and lifelong "gearhead" WITH bridge construction and maintenance experience and an extensive background with electricity, ATC experience as a former "federal locomotive inspector" and all kinds of other personal experiences and hard-earned knowledge that makes me a damned sight more "qualified" to "maintain" your so-far non-existent "railroad" that any FOREIGNERS IN FANCY SUITS AND A HISTORY OF F'ING OVER THEIR "PARTNERS" AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO "MAKE A POUND" OFF THEM. MY "BID" IS $1 MILLION PER YEAR FOR THE 20/30 YEARS AND I'll EVEN DO IT ON ANNUAL RENEWAL BASIS. IF I DON'T PERFORM TO YOUR "REQUIREMENTS" YOU CAN "FIRE" ME AT YEAR-END OF ANY YEAR.
