    This argument that Colin has that "the drivers were not updated, it's obnoxious" is so stupid. It's not updated because you never play on PC so you don't bother, then you go try to play something after not touching the thing for months and expects it to not have updates to do?
    edit: I mean, I don't even remember the last time I updated anything on my PC and it's running everything fine.

    • @Imaginashunz
      @Imaginashunz 7 лет назад +9

      Guilherme Müller but that was exactly his point

    • @chickenfeathers2540
      @chickenfeathers2540 7 лет назад +3

      Guilherme Müller his argument for a long time has been that the fact that you need to update anything at all is obnoxious. Sure, Xbox and PS4 get system updates, but they don't necessarily take away your ability to play a game if you don't update them.

    • @CyberPsychoJD
      @CyberPsychoJD 7 лет назад +12

      That was exactly his point dude. I can leave my ps4 sitting there for 5 years and if i plug it back up, its still gonna run every game for it network updates aside. The same cannot be said about alot of pc games without driver issues.

    • @mullergui13
      @mullergui13 7 лет назад +8

      "network updates aside" ok...

      Honestly, the fact that no one at Kinda Funny is remotely knowledgeable about PC gaming platform and market makes me not take them as seriously as they deserve. I like their passion for gaming but they lack a hugely important point of reference when analyzing things.
      They really should add a person to the team that can bring that perspective to the channel or at least get some guests from time to time that come from a PC gaming background. Unfortunately, Kinda Funny ends up being just that most of the time: kinda funny, not necessarily that compelling and "relevant" as it could be. Which is a wasted opportunity cause they are all pretty entertaining hosts with their own twists who are all truly passionate about this hobby that unites us all here.

    Preferences are fine but console players tend to make PC gaming sound so super complicated, my boyfriends 10 year old sister has her own computer and plays Minecraft/Terraria/Ori and the Blind forest/Shantae/The Sims style games and never seems to have issues with the concept of switching between controller/keyboard or playing at her desk/switching to the TV
    "Hey your driver is out of date, want to download this update? click yes it takes 5 seconds"
    As opposed to the day1 downloads from PS4 games that have next to nothing on the disc and insanely slow 1998 download speeds for their PAID network.
    Obviously this channel leans towards PS4/still somehow championing the Vita but if anyone is discouraged from PC because of the idea that consoles are 'just easier' I would recommend finding out for yourself

    • @Barney-ii1no
      @Barney-ii1no 7 лет назад +6

      yep i agree, seems like whenever he talks about pc gaming he has to moan about having to update drivers etc
      well guess what colin, you dont need the latest driver to play a game, and is it that hard to plug a controller into your pc and get it working? i dont get it

    • @thosewhoslaytogetherstayto3412
      @thosewhoslaytogetherstayto3412 7 лет назад +3

      Chiyori Nakanishi Incredibly true. My PC experience has been very simple for the most part. What usually happens is someone attempts to configure a nonsense set up by jerryrigging and end up with some complicated mess. I have a friend who has to reformat his machine after configuring and tooling endlessly while I set on my PC and its running fine. Consoles are more simple but a big part of that is the fact they lock down anything you can do to configure your console.

    • @chrisevans5082
      @chrisevans5082 7 лет назад +4

      Chiyori Nakanishi yep you're bang on. And try gaming at 30fps in 2017. It's laughable

    • @ChichiNaka
      @ChichiNaka 7 лет назад +7

      Blows my mind that these consoles launched with games running at 30fps let alone the PSPro running games at 30fps.
      Hurts my soul to hear IGN and the like say things like 'rock solid 30fps with only a few dips in the 20s'

    • @chrisevans5082
      @chrisevans5082 7 лет назад +2

      Chiyori Nakanishi I'm ashamed to say I bought the bullshit and got a PS4 pro. Games in supposed 4k looked OK, but not in the same ballpark as a 1080p game with ultra settings on pc, and at 30fps it was like I'd had a brain aneurysm or something! Traded it in and built a £900 living room pc (i7 6700, gtx 980ti, 16gb ram) to compliment the one I already had. Yes, I agree with those that say it's an expensive luxury, but as far as I'm concerned its worth it and with the regular Steam sales I'll make the money back over the next 3 years anyway!!

      if you want old turn style RPG they all been like except FF15, want 16bit sprites play FF4 , 5 and 6
      want game with all characters from other games, i doubt that ever happen, they made world of FF but that was just monster collecting game.

      Brave Exvius has characters from all different final fantasy's and its turn base as well... not every FF has been done but most of them have. My profile pic is Exdeath so you can have villains and heroes on your team. Just saying it's being done on a smaller scale but still pretty dope game, Alot of people don't even know this game exists,

    The last proper F-Zero game that came out was over 13 years ago! I would contemplate getting the switch knowing there would be an F-Zero game to come out. I mean one of the reasons I got a Wii-U was on the hopes of there being an F-Zero game. Totally an underutilized franchise. It probably is too niche of a game that would make sense for nintendo to make. But I dream of an open world F-Zero game that's a mix of F-Zero racing/ racing cups and bounty hunting missions as Captain Falcon

    I'd love an old school Final Fantasy with sprite based graphics. I just question if Square even has capable enough 2D animators to make it look not just authentic and as good as the SNES games, but to take it beyond that to say Sega Saturn levels of 2D art.
    Their mobile offerings as well as their PC "remasters" of the classic games are the only real modern example of them doing 2D spritework, and they don't exactly fill me with confidence enough to think that they could pull it off anymore. Real, frame by frame 2D animation is a dying art, and it feels like Square mostly employ 3D animators nowadays. Very skilled 3D animators mind you, but going off of what I've seen I have my doubts that they're skilled enough in doing 2D animation work as well.
    Just a thought.

    My ideal Star Wars game:
    A story that spans say 5 planets throughout the game, but in reality as many as planets as possible for the developer team, because the key is *they are all open world.* So let's say the way San Andreas had a huge map with different cities, in this each planet would be a greater city area on a different planet.
    *Dialogue options and choices like KOTOR at minimum, but ideally like Planescape even if that means sacrificing voice acting, I've learned it's worth it.* This is a MUST. I love games like Red Dead Redemption but as good a story as they tell, you have no choice in it, and that type of story ESPECIALLY conflicts with open world game design where the medium naturally lends itself to you creating chaos in the sandbox gameplay, but then in the scripted story, your character is totally different than how the game is designed to be played outside of missions. That's why true dialogue choices in open world games mix much better, because now the person making choices in the gameplay is the same person making choices in the story, and so it's a consistent character you get to role play as, rather than you role playing as one character in the gameplay, but then the script writer being entirely responsible for the character you play as in the story. And the choices have to branch to various parts of the game! Even side quests should often branch and connect to other side quests and even the main quests. Developers don't have to write 10,000 different story branches into the game, but if they link the write 200 or so for example in the right way, then they interact in a way that is exponential and actually does give 10,000 different possible experiences without needing tow rite that many.
    You fly between planets in various air vehicles, and the story and side missions include Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Dragon's Dogma, and Star Wars: Jedi Outcast type of combat on the ground, and good air combat both Corosant-style above the cities with flying cars, and in space. Like GTA 5 had heists, this game would have a handful of really big set piece missions that start with you force jumping, shooting, and dueling on the tops of futuristic buildings, then jumping from fast hovercrafts to another chasing guys and fighting them, like The Fifth Element car scene, then you commander a ship mid-flight as reinforcements come chasing you that will kill you if you don't get in a ship, then you have evade them until you can get enough space to flank them and stop picking them off, or maybe an ally swoops in to help you, then you need to fly to some moon that has an asteroid field problem on one side of it, so you're supposed to land on the other side of it. The moon uses some sort of technology to always keep the populated side of it away from the asteroids that constantly fall out of the sky.
    But in the course of the chase, that piece of technology, located in a small automated space station outside the planet, gets blown up, which causes the process of destabilization to start. This is too early to turn the moon around and kill any population centers, and droids will surely fix it before that happens, but what does happen is this causes a gravitational anomaly that causes all the asteroids to start floating down to the moon near the outskirts of the population centers, in great numbers. Then the enemies pursuing you in their ships blow up your ship, causing you to eject into space. Your suit is equipped to protect you in space, so your face shield automatically turns on, but you would obviously be dead normally without a ship floating in space. Except what you can do with all the asteroids falling down towards the moon is grab a hold of these asteroids crashing down to the moon, and stand on them, and start shooting back at the ships as they pursue you, all at high speeds. Any blast that comes at you, you can deflect with your lightsaber, but if the enemies shoot at the meteor you're standing on, it will blow up and you will have to force jump to another meteor, and eventually try to commander one of their ships before you land, or use the force to land on the moon.
    So at points, late in the game, after you've mastered your skills, there would be some of these epic set pieces that mix force powers, Titanfall-like environmental mobility, lightsaber duels, fast paced vehicles that you can traverse on and engage in combat and force powers with WITHOUT being INSIDE the vehicle, but jumping from one to another, even throwing vehicles with force powers like Yoda threw senate seats in ROTS when you're at the highest level, and then seamless transition into vehicles, and into space, and then if you can get on top of a vehicle in space, you can have lightsaber battles during aerial combat....
    And then mix in an epic Final Fantasy 7 type of story, or obviously the Star Wars movies, that mixes the feeling of connection and finding a place for yourself with these new, amazing characters from all over the galaxy, in this new, amazing world, with very dark, mature subject matter, including sex. PG-13 still allows for as sexual themes if you want to get, you just can't show all of it. I'd love to see this be an M-Rated Star Wars game, but even if they went for teen, they could still do it.
    And don't pander to political correctness.
    *That is the kind of Star Wars game I would like to see. Multi-open world, Dragon's Dogma/Kingdoms of Amalur/Jed Outcast type of combat that merges Titanfall type mobility, shooting, force combat/movement, light-saber combat, and dogfighting and vehicles, Planescape Torment type of branching dialogue and story with dialogue options, and Final Fantasy 7 or other mid-90s JRPG-type of epic narrative and large cast of characters, and a mix of mature teen themes and adult themes.*
    *I think Disney is in a great place right now, swimming with money, and the sales of Mafia III just showed once again how desperate gamers are for open world games with unique settings and story. That game didn't quite deliver, but Disney is dominating the box office, and I think if they give this type of game the resources it needs--i.e. this should be by far the biggest gaming budget of all time-then I think Disney could blow Call of Duty out of the water and have literally the biggest gaming franchise in the world, too.*
    *Think about it... Gamers are so starved for open world games that aren't shit, that actually have some semblance of a complete experience and not just a big empty world, that they are buying anything that even comes close to delivering that. Look at the sales of Skyrim, Mafia III I mentioned, Final Fantasy XV, Dragon Age: Inquisitionand so many others.
    Gamers are also starving for games that deliver any type of functioning 3rd person combat that doesn't hold your hand. They're so desperate, they'll buy games like that even if the rest of the experience sucks. See Dragon's Dogma, Kingdoms of Amalur.
    Gamers are also starving for games that have actual story and choice, that they will even buy games isometric games with incomplete voice acting and slow pacing in the beginning, like Pillars of Eternity.
    And lastly, gamers are so desperate for a good Star Wars game, that they will shell out big for an actual good one like KOTOR, even if the combat sucks, and they will even shell out big for Star Wars games that aren't good at all, as we've seen.
    *So literally the market is BEGGING for every single one of these aspects of gaming. Can you imagine if Disney put their money behind filling ALL of these needs in one game, a Star Wars game, how big it would be? It would be the biggest video game of all time. And they can do it. Disney is in the position to do this, I just don't know if they see this unique opportunity or have the vision to do it. They might be thinking just a standard cinematic third person action game like Uncharted, or doing a game of each genre, or whatever. I'm not sure they see the opportunity that is there to basically do what I imagine CDPR is with Cyperpunk 2077, but do it Star Wars. Or do what Bioware did with Mass Effect, but with way better dialogue options and choices, and with force and lightsaber combat and environmental mobility added, as well as space battles, and of course instead of small hub locations on each planet, you do multi-open world where each planet is something between DA:I hubs and a full GTA city. Each planet open world could be, say, if it's a city location like corosant, then 50% the size of GTA 3's map, if it's a more spread out location with towns in a desert, then it could be 80% the size of GTA 3. *
    *Because with what is going on in games with like The Witcher 3 for example, or even Skyrim, Disney has a huge opportunity to take those blueprints, and simply use the time and all that money they have to put together a better story and make it multi-world, and then do the one thing that NONE of these major games have been able to fully pull off yet, and actually nail the combat right for once. Get that Dragon's Dogma type combat in there instead of the Skyrim crap. If Disney makes that game as I've described it, as a Star Wars game, it will be the single biggest video game of all time. And I hope they make it!*

    I'm fortunate to have both consoles this generation as well as my gaming PC and I enjoy the experience on all of them. So, not a #PCmasterrace bro, but I've got to defend the PC here. I've heard you and Greg both talk about the PC experience being a PITA but really? The reasons listed are always "your drivers are out of date"... come on guys, it takes a minute or two to update a driver which isn't frequent. And no sound, etc? Never had that problem. Gotta give you props with your respect to PC being way ahead of the curve when it comes to the digital marketplace though.
    Thanks for continuing to put out so much great content. Makes my 10 hours a week of commute much easier.

      I think it's pretty obvious Zelda rivals Horizon and Zelda also has a much longer track record. To rival Persona 5, Nintendo has Xenoblade 2.
