    It's sad when I just discovered a band and then the comments section is full of RIP to the main musician in the group who was weaving these tunes. But hey, such is life, as they say in France.

      I just (finally) got into Asylum Party about two weeks ago, after sitting on Borderline for what seems like about 9-12 months (oddly-enough). I'm loving it. Mere is next. I did not know a primary songwriter passed within that same span of time that I became aware of them.

They're wonderfully dark, nostalgiac, and right up there with Asylum Party. imho. and like AP, Lowlife had a short career, a badass demo album, an incredible bassist, and lived on to exist solely on a cult following, kinda like how the ancient Gods could only exist if they were worshipped.

Sputnikmusic for example usually has much higher album ratings (even if that site also is far from perfect). Many albums have a rating of 4 or higher on sputnik while on RYM usually only 3.5. ...and I can hear a lot of Paul Banks' influences in here, more so than in Joy Division because Asylum seem to have that tiny, very subtle nugget of fragility buried within the tracks that gently nudges you in a very eerie way...that's rare and intoxicating (a stronger version would be Memoryhouse, which brings the full nostalgia to the fore leaving the edgier pieces behind)

    Cette culture musicale extraordinaire qui existait en France dans les années 70s 80s a été totalement balayée par la mondialisation et la médiocrité imposée par les masse-media. Retrouverons nous un jour dans le paysage musical français ou même européen les réminiscences de ce qui fut un grand mouvement artistique ? Ce canal "In Depth Music" est une bénédiction pour ceux qui ont connu ces années ou la culture pré multi-nationale existait. Merci à vous de nous faire revivre cette époque d'excellence musicale et créatrice.

      Sauf que la musique mise en valeur durant ces années étaient tout aussi sans profondeur que ce que tu reproches aux mass média d’avoir imposer. ils ont juste donné aux truffes ce que les truffes attendaient. Cette musique reste pour ceux qui la cherchent ...
      Quand tu penses que le groupe majeur reconnu et mis en avant de cette époque dans le rock en France est Téléphone ... c'est affligeant. ( je dis pas que c'est mauvais, mais c'est une insulte à tout ces groupes aillant autant d’émotion et de qualité comme AP alors que téléphone nla offert que sur un ou deux morceaux réellement )

    • @jandron94
      @jandron94 3 года назад +2

      @@DarthShayanTool. Plus que de chercher à blâmer Téléphone j'irais plutôt regarder du côté des prescripteurs nationaux de l'époque 80-90.
      Le Bernard Lenoir de France Inter, le magazine Les Inrocks, et Michka Assayas entre autres n'ont eu de cesse d'être obnubilé par ce qui se faisait outre-Manche/Atlantique et sont volontairement passé à côté de ce que ce pays et le continent européen dans son ensemble avaient à offrir.
      Le nombre de fois où ce brave Bernard à invité par snobisme des groupes de toquards venus du fin fond de l'Angleterre pour des "Blacks Sessions" lamentables et inaudibles.
      Le seul artiste français qu'il aura bien voulu soutenir ce fut ce gentil Miossec car cela restait pour lui de la chanson française à texte "de gauche" et ne prétendait nullement à être du Rock (réservé exclusivement aux Anglo-Saxons).
      Je ne parle évidemment pas des radios "djeuns" ("...Hits Only") dirigées par des commerciaux marchands de soupe globalisée que l'on peut retrouver dans un autre genre sur les chaînes de télé (où ils achètent et diffusent des séries US au km).
      Moi Aylum Party je les ai découvert en 90 grâce à l'émission Tempo de FR3 Bretagne/Loire Atlantique qui passait le Dimanche en fin de matinée (!). Cette émission s'intéressait principalement aux groupes "Rock" nationaux (principalement de l'Ouest de la France). Ils y avaient diffusé le clip de Misfortunes et j'avais été scotché par ce titre (grande découverte alors de la "Touching Pop").

    • @didierg2076
      @didierg2076 3 года назад

      @@jandron94 J'ai eu la même connexion avec ASYLUM PARTY dans TEMPO notamment ou une radio indé et je n'ai jamais décroché. La mélancholie caractéristique de la cold wave m'a attirée comme avec le groupe TROP TARD, mais ici le niveau est très haut, étonnamment le chant français passe très bien, on nous a tellement répété que le français n'était pas fait pour le rock, notamment LENOIR. Ce dernier a aussi encensé MURAT dès le départ, en plus de MANSET et BASHUNG.
      J'ai toujours gardé une oreille sur les inrocks mais à distance. Ils n'ont pas la science infuse, ils vont devenir avec l'âge comme ce pauvre MANOEUVRE.
      Moi je dirais que la techno a foutu une grosse claque à tout le monde et a boulversé la donne début 90, c'est le tournant dans l'approche. L'arrivée d'internet après 2000 a permis à la musique indé de revenir. Depuis 2015, on assiste à un revival SYNTH POP et POST PUNK. C'est un cycle. L'essentiel, c'est d'être ouvert, attentif et surtout chercher le groupe ou l'artiste sans attendre qu'on nous le serve sur un plateau. J'ai commencé dans les années 80 avec tout le réseau de fanzines et K7, et je continue aujourd'hui à défricher dans la musique électronique innovante.

    • @jandron94
      @jandron94 3 года назад +1

      @@didierg2076 La différence principale entre notre époque et les années 80 c'est que le rock était vraiment dominant dans la "jeunesse", avec pas mal de déclinaisons, de genres. Il y a désormais plus de "vieux" qui l'écoutent désormais que de "jeunots" :-))) Qui l'eu cru à l'époque !
      Depuis le monde musical s'est vraiment "archipelisé", les sources d'écoute son innombrables... et le "catalogue" bien plus épais du fait de l'historique.
      Le fait de chanter en anglais n'est plus une difficulté ni même un question vu que désormais des gamins de 7 ans chante (braille?) dans un anglais parfait à The Voice France.
      Moi j'ai grandi à Rennes, un ville qui baignait dans un bain uniquement rock, on se croyait un peu au coeur de la création rock en France (plus trop désormais...).
      Aylum Party c'était vraiment la révélation de la Touching Pop, j'ai pu ainsi apprécier Little Némo, Babel 17, Mary Goes Round...
      Oui tout n'était pas mauvais chez Lenoir, sinon j'aurais pas autant écouté ses émissions, il y avait même parfois du très bon. Et justement Murat, Bashung, et Manset c'était pas vraiment du Rock... mais de la bonne chanson à texte française avec une composante musicale assez recherchée et travaillée.
      Ce que je sentais avant tout chez Bernard c'est un mépris certain et systématique pour la culture de masse populaire française, mépris qu'il n'avait pas pour la culture de masse populaire anglaise, peut-être pour des raisons tortueuses de conviction politique et de snobisme cultureux (propre à Radio France).
      Son boulot de "DJ" à la radio française dans les années 70 avait selon ses dires été une expérience traumatisante (devoir passer les disques de Lavilliers, Polnareff, etc. l'avait dégouté de la variété française).
      Bref un mec scotché au NME et qui s'intéressait beaucoup trop aux ragots/spéculations sur les groupes anglais. Ses "duplex" depuis Londres avec Arnaud Beauvallet, Lydie Barbarian (fallait vraiment l'écouter celle-là avec son accent anglais "so authentic" !) étaient teintés d'une grande prétention, d'un entre-soi de gens qui se croyaient au centre de "là où ça se passe vraiment, où tout est intéressant et 100% pur jus". Ses émissions-interviews avec Hugo Cassaveti et Michka Assayas c'était un peu du même tonneau.
      On retrouve la même attitude chez Antoine Descaunes, il ne le dit pas clairement (il ne voudrait surtout pas se griller) mais on sent bien que pour lui chanter en français c'est chanter du c..ca (surtout si c'est du Rock).
      Je ne sais pas si ça vient d'une sorte de complexe linguistique ou culturel, de moutonisme, de faignantise intellectuelle, de ne savoir parler rien d'autre que l'anglais, d'un vieux fond de mépris pour tout ce qui n'a pas été adoubé par les anglo-saxons...
      ça reste un peu mystérieux.
