Oh man half those stars are going to die the blue ones are so hard to keep and stars should not be OUT OF THE WATER come on at least try to take care of them come on dude
Hey, sorry my question might be stupid, but when the seller took them out of the water to put them on the bag, was it okay bc it was really short amount of time or was it also a mistake?
@@tiphjyi5524 when putting them in the bag he could have did it better but for only a second is not deadly but what Nick did by holding them for at least a 1 each would be very very bad for them
I’m really thinking this guy knows nothing about keeping stars. Acclimating for 30 min??? Should’ve been for several hours. I hate seeing animals die because the owner doesn’t have the experience or hasn’t done the research on the simplest most basic rules. Octopus tank way too small. Cruel
@malek dunk the bag inside the tank. Pull the starfish out and then take the bag out of the water. It is possible that some bag water gets into your tank. That’s okay. You can minimize that by pouring out some of the water from the bag (without exposing the starfish) before dunking it inside the tank .
Good video Nick! A little info about the starfish you bought. Chocolate Chip Starfish, probably most bullet proof starfish you can have but still appreciate an established and large system, try feeding it frozen foods. It may also munch on your coral so watch out. They are cannibalistic and prey on other starfish too so I recommend giving it back to the fish store or moving it to a different tank. Red Fromia starfish need an established tank and feed on bacterial films and sponges which is why they need a tank that has those things growing. I think that you should move this starfish to your most large and established tank for the best chances of survival. They may fall prey to your chocolate chip starfish. Sand Sifting starfish also appreciate an established tank so they can eat detritus, try feeding it pellets flakes or frozen foods so it can eat. They won't eat algae off the sand but will sift it when they bury themselves. Its best they are kept in a 55 gallon or bigger to meet their food demand. Blue Linckia Starfish by far the most difficult to keep, a 25 minute acclimation probably wasn't enough since they are used to very stable parameters just like the rest of the starfish on the list so new tanks are not recommended for them. Being exposed to air for short periods of time won't exactly kill the animal as it happens in the wild but I would keep air exposure to a minimum, they use a vascular system for gas exchange and being exposed to air for too long can have bad effects but 1-3 minutes shouldn't hurt as they do it in the wild sometimes. They eat bacterial films and sponges so I advise you find your most established and VERY large tank these guys can grow to about 12 inches long! Acclimate it for a minimum of 5 hours using the drip method as I said they are very sensitive animals (longer amount of time is always better though) If anyone has any objections with the air exposure statement or anything else you can be rude and say I'm wrong but this has been proven wrong by people and the starfish themselves by going out of the water on their own and living for many years after. Alternatives Brittle and Serpent starfish are really good alternatives Nick they will eat detritus and clean up your tank! I recommend them for your new saltwater pool pond instead of the other starfish listed. Good Luck with the starfish Nick!
Nick plzzzz next time u get star fish acclimate them for at least 24hr because they don’t handle changes very well also this is not a hate comment I love ur videos 👍

Ahhhhhh, seeing him lifting those poor starfish out of the water. Also, starfish are prone to starvation and most are very sensitive to changes in the water so most species should only be kept by experienced keepers.
Tell this seller guy that starfish and sea urchins just like puffer fish, should never be exposed to the air. They should be transfered with a jar or a bowl si they are not exposed.
so my question is...... did the giant hermit crab die? (which would be understandable since it was obviously rather old) If it did die then it would of been best if you removed it from its shell and put the shell in one of the aquariums since it would act as a cave for small fish AND it already had some inverts living inside it alongside the hermit crab which some of then could of potentially help keep the aquarium live rocks algae free. That is, if it did in fact die.

starfish aren't like otherfish where they can be lifted out of the water. They don't do well when this happens.
Most of them die by starvation as swell he will not be able to keep it
I did not know that they starved in captivity so I bought a sand sifting starfish... it died a few days later never getting another one
@@xj52sfishyworld86 even really experienced fish owners can’t look after them there just super difficult to care for

Most all starfish will die fairly quick after being exposed to air. Air gets into their bloodstream and makes them melt
