The street scenes of New York in the 1979s are awesome. Incredibly fast-paced movie.

God told me to hold the remote control in my hand 🙏 To crank the sound when people were talking, and turn it down fast when anything dramatic happened.... the damn parade almost blew out my speakers! lol 😂

People were more daring with more imagination, thereby making really interesting movies. 😊

Deborah Raffin. What a Beautiful, Talented Woman.
I , also, first saw her in Once Is Not Enough when it came out in the 70's. An Okay movie with an all-star cast (Kirk Douglas playing her father).
However she stood out and was good despite some of the dialogue!!

I discovered "God Told Me To" in 1991 threw a book titled "Incredibly Strange Films" REsearch... thanks
Whilst very imaginative and controversial at the time of its release despite a few technical errors with the filmmaking itself, this remains an enjoyable and interesting drama with a fascinating theme. The adverts in the last 15 mts are appalling and come thick and fast - they are the true horrors!
A pre-Cronenberg slit and easily one of Lo Bianco's best performances.

I find he looks like Judd Hirsch from " Taxi ". His girlfriend at beginning of film was HOT, though.😊
I once met a guy who appeared in this movie. He had a line. Or two. He turned out to be kind of a dick, though. I always think of him and that night we spent together working whenever I see him in this film.
P.S. that’s Andy Kaufman as the whacked out cop in the parade...one of his first film appearances.

I surely give the movie a try and after two minutes:yeah it’s crazy stuff from the 70s….
21:24 ... Okay, and the parade would just then continue? With five dead cops on the street the cops stay in the parade, just moseying along like nothing happened? That's a real real bad job there

I wonder what compelled Larry Cohen (the director) to rip off FX shots from *Space:1999,* especially considering how fresh in the minds of people it would be.
Budget. Cohen was canny enough to recognise his budget couldn’t possibly cover the cost of his script, but integrating stock footage from another source might do the trick… I don’t mind it in any case, although I think they’re the weakest scenes of the film as a consequence.
Andy Kaufman as a berserk cop? Cool.
Why censored? The other version here is not. Peace

well that's about the most fucked up thing I've ever seen. maybe it'll make more sense when I wake up screaming at 3:33am.
aside from the obviously borrowed Space 1999 footage someone commented on there's also that weird coloured eye close up from near the end of the movie that's more than likely lifted from 2001 A Space Odyssey (Entering The Star-Gate sequence) & the burning house footage at the end looks a lot like the Roger Corman, Edgar Allan Poe film ending used often in movies like Fall of the House of Usher.
but my god this is a weird, unsettling film...reminds me of the two beings in The Keep movie

loved it, this should be a Slasher Horror! I saw some slashers that only start killing people after 50 mins probably God did not tell them anything I guess

Most of the time they are , the ideas for films back then were original and never been seen before but todays films are rehashed ideas , to have an original concept for a film today is few and far between. It's all been done before .

Im 60 and never saw this movie.
The starting was crazy but the title vexed me enough to say , nobody has seen the father that sent Jesus or heard his voice according to what jesus said in John 5 : 37. Better title needed . for me to enjoy.

Cohen was inspired to make the film by the Bible. He thought God in the Bible was one of the most violent characters in literature. In hindsight, he's right especially when millions beg God to save them, and they all die a horrible death anyway. I mean WTF!?!?!
Jesus I dig, he was about saving souls not meat puppets that end up all rotted being fed by worms and bugs. Religion is great if you remove all the churches and pastors and Imams and priests and rabbis, etc. Just be good, respect all life and viva la vida loca with a little self-control.
