Funny how the crowd doesn't know what to make of Timothy's delivery back then. He hasn't changed very much since then but today the crowd "gets" him and he has better reactions.

He comes across as arrogant. He smiles a lot more now and delivers his lines slower so he seems more goofy than prideful.
Plus he always drinks from a mug as a prop to aid timing & smooth over awkwardness... lol
People want that certificate to express themselves freely. A joke delivered better by a newbie will get less laugh than the same joke delivered not as good by an established person. People need approval. Social anxiety & sheepishness is a plague.
First thing Tim ever does on the show is interrupting Conan. Gold.
It’s funny everyone is saying how much their chemistry is immediate. To me it looks like a young, quirky guy who’s maybe a little nervous and a talk show host who isn’t 100% certain how to take this guy.

To be honest, Conan was kinda stiff with a lot of guests in the 90s...took him a long time to become a natural interviewer.
That's probably true, but I think more Conan not having his sea legs yet.
I see the same thing, but Conan liked that he was honest and forthright, and trusted him because of that, when all he sees are phonies 24 7

Around this same time, Olyphant was on MTV Live with Carson Daly and he tells Carson Daly a story and mentions his wife. A minute later Carson asks him, "So now that you're in Scream 2, is it a lot easier to pick up women?" and Olyphant was like, "I literally just told you I was married." Classic TV that will never be on RUclips.
I will watch this one day.
That says a lot about Tim Olyphant AND about Carson Daly.

You can tell Timothy really wants to be friends with Conan. And it WORKED
It's like first date jitters, so precious. I don't think Conan knew yet how much he needed TO in his life... Few can make HIM shut up and laugh endlessly.
Watching this almost 25 years after, it's really neat to see how little Timothy appears to have changed in interviews. Laidback, quips and wisecracks, but not too concerned if everything hits with the audience.
Yeah, but with the right combo of legal or illegal drugs and experience/age related settling down. Guys this comfortable with themselves are chick catnip, I think that's a lesser known reason why they dig older men.

Olyphant’s hairline made an amazing comeback in the following years.
It looks quite the same for the hairline, he just has a different hairstyle now.
Check out a more recent vid with him on conan, hairline is exactly the same. it's the hair product he's using, looks like it's clumping too many strands together. this type of product is better if you have thick hair, plus his haircut is short :p

I was there in 86, and it was wide open. Bed and breakfast all the way down the side of Balaton, 24-hour service for rooms in Budapest, nothing like Soviet bloc expectations. Moved on to Prague after, totally different story, entire experience could have been scripted by John Le Carre.
It’s crazy seeing this. Love him in scream 2, so seeing him around the same time and promoting it is amazing, especially since I didn’t know it even existed. Also him meeting Conan here for the first time and knowing they’re actual friends know and their chemistry is so cool

Scream 2 is where I first saw Timothy and even as I wasn't a fan early on, the guy has stood out in everything I've seen him in since then.

During his second appearance on the Conan podcast (in 2023), Olyphant confessed to having been extremely nervous back then since this was his first late night talk show interview. But honestly, you can't really tell.

Also, I remember when Conan aired in Europe which was my first encounter with his brilliance. When I was a child I spent my summer vacations in Sweden and our neighbor let us watch Swedish TV all the time. You could watch Conan and Jay Leno during the day, also a ton of other American shows (all in English with Swedish subtitles). Great times! I instantly loved him but sadly I never figured out if I could watch Conan also in Germany 😔
By the way, the only person who could compete with Timothy is Joel McHale. I always wanted to see the both of them together with Conan - a dangerously funny combination! At least, I was REALLY surprised and amazed that Timothy and Joel met on Santa Clarita Diet. Still bugs me that Netflix canceled the show...

OMG, I love Scream movies ever since I saw first one in 1996, and only this moment did I realise that the killer in Scream 2 was Timothy Olyphant, lol. I didn't know him as much as I do today so back then he was a new face in movies to me and only got to know and like him after Hitman and Die Hard 4.0, but it's so cool to realise things like this decades later, lol.

Happy 52nd birthday Timothy Olyphant!
Considering Scream 2 was his first major-ish Hollywood movie, playing alongside "veteran" actors, he sure held his own.
His "Budapest" story brings me back to his bald-in-Bulgaria quip on Hitman, set 10 years later. Glad to see his dry wry humor and love for jokes and stories go back over 20 years, this guy is a gem!
