They ought to have named him 'Matt', so that Dr Horn could ask: 'Has Matt been wearing his hazmat?' Seriously. though. I loved 'Eli'. I've seen 'The Omen', and 'Eli' WAS different. We knew all along that Omen's 'Damian' was devil spawn. The twist was that he survived and his father didn't. In 'Eli', the kid's being devil spawn WAS the 'twist'. Seeing him fight back against his tormentors made me back him, even after the twist. Also, the SFX, music and acting by all the cast members were superb to me. My score is 4.98/5.00.
I think you did not understand the movie quite well, yes it was a mediocre movie but it deserved way more than 1.5/ 5 . You keep saying that the movie didn’t know what it wanted to be, but actually it was playing the viewers the whole time. First we thought it was a haunted house story with the bubble boy twist, later it turned out that the ghosts were actually demons who were trapped by the nuns in that house, when the full picture is revealed you regressively understand the actual genre of the movie. The movie also posed as a lazily written horror flick by having inconsistencies which turned out later to actually be clues that the story is not what is presented. The movie is not perfect and it actually makes a good job convincing us that it’s a crappy flick (which might prove to be counterintuitive) so much so when the twist is revealed it makes you appreciate the movie even more than you would have.
There are little clues throughout that the writers knew exactly what they wanted 'Eli' to be. The Biblical quote on the billboard. The crucifix pattern on the door of the 'treatment center', etc.
I didn’t enjoy the movie at all the plot twist at the end just doesn’t really make sense also it felt like I was watching two different types of movies when I was near the ending to be honest it wasn’t that scary and there are a lot of blanks
That's what I thought, it had too many things that it wanted to be and in the end it chose something that was so far out of reach. And I agree on the technological Exorcism lol they did all those procedures to just perform a one minute exorcism?
