Thanks so much! That really was a great episode! I grew up hearing Gordon's music and was always drawn to it. I happen to love The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald a lot! I once taught a 6th grade class a lesson on personification in writing using that song's lyrics. I showed them the video of the song, and they were so enthralled! That was in 2010. Thank you, Gordon Lightfoot! 😊💜
The Midnight Special performance of "Nights on Broadway" by the Bee Gees is simply spectacular. So much raw talent and flawless delivery of a complex song.
This was a fantastic podcast. Gordon Lightfoot and his band were very friendly, when I met them after I saw them live. I also saw Randy Bachman 8 times live and met him. I saw Burton Cummings 4 times live and met him. It was pretty cool to see the images of the Space Shuttle. One of my relatives is an astronaut. He and his brother are in the Royal Canadian Air Force. They are my (late) cousin's sons. My relative is taking further training in Texas and in Florida. He gets to go on an ISS mission in early 2025. In the future, he gets to go to the moon, and possibly to Mars. Furthermore, me and some relatives were talking this past summer about one of our relatives, who was on a junior hockey team and where he would be drafted in the NHL. He got picked by the Ottawa Senators. Cheers! ✌️
The first Gordon Lightfoot song I heard was a cover of "Ribbon of Darkness" by Marty Robbins. I loved it. I didn't know when "Sundown" came out that it was written by Gordon. When I was at A.F. Photo school my roommate put on "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and I was stunned; it was SO good! We listened to the rest of Gordon's greatest hits, all pure gold, "If You Could Read my Mind" was so close in describing the long-distance relationship I was in I could have written it (If I had an incredible amount of talent like Gordon). I worked with a guy who was convinced that Gordon Lightfoot was the name of the band, and couldn't be a person's name, I told him I grew up done the block from a Lightfoot family, they lived in the Apartment next to the Sixkillers (Lot of Natives lived in my neighborhood. Fun facts, Sundown was written about Gordon's wife Cathy Smith, who was having an affair with his drummer, whose nickname was "Sundown". Gordon's ex, Cathy Smith confessed to dosing John Belushi with a mixture of heroin and cocaine. Smith was charged with second degree murder, was convicted and sentenced to 15 months in prison. Great Episode!
Ha - I saw Lightfoot at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC for those who can no longer remember) in 73 and he scolded me from the stage. This is true. He does a good performance and it was getting near the end so time was running out. I ran down front and called, "Play Daylight Katy." He lost his shit. He yelled at me and said this was his concert and he chose what songs to do, not the audience, and a few other things about being a bad person.

Special nod to Gordon Lightfoot's superb backing band and song arrangement. They were excellent.

People should go and have a Gordon Lightfoot listening party. I don't think he ever did any weak albums.
RIP Gordon!!!!
The guitar featured on Gordon Lightfoot's 1974 album, Sundown, sold at auction for $350,000 US

Daylight Katy wasn't written and recorded until 1978. It is a cut on his Endless Wire album.

Observant Alert: There's no musical intro in this episode.
we thought it was getting a little repetitive and hoped to retain some more watch time, who knows
@@themidnightspecialtvshow Experimentation is good 👍.
