What I think should also be mentioned about the elves is their EXTREME emotionality. They are able to experience all emotions far more intense then humans, thus bouth pleasure, sorrow, haterd and love are experienced much stronger by them, thus its very easy for an elf to "get lost" in a certain emotion and becoming close to unable to get out of it...thus an elf can completly get drowned in his/her sorrow or get addicted to sensationalistic pleasure seeking driving himself to greater and greater sensation. This is the explanation for the dark elves sadism btw, it is dificult to understand for a human but an elf can easily experience massive pleasure from inflicting pain and the feeling of power it gives him (combined with drugs), it is basicly addictive and the elf soon loses all other desires exept experiencing more of it....This is why high elf culture is so strongly centered on self controll and every elf has always be on guard for falling into the pits of his own emotions.....

Your mention of the Phoenix King choosing the Everqueen is mistaken, FYI. The title of Everqueen passes from Mother to Daughter in an unbroken line from the first Everqueen (First recorded is Astarielle, wife of Aenarion). The firstborn daughter of the Everqueen and Phoenix King's marriage is recognized as the Everchild and heir to the mantle of Everqueen.

I do, but considering that the source is the last Army Book before WHFB got nuked, it seems pretty definitive.
The Malekith omnibus does seem to suggest that the High Elves try to avoid incestuous Phoenix King/Everqueen pairings, as they were pretty hesitant to have Malekith be crowned when Yvraine, his half-sister was Everqueen.

Nope .. The Noldor got corrupted by Melkor, then they were banished to Middle Earth.
After that they did some things for a few years, meet the Edain bla bla bla etc etc.
After a some centuries had passed the endless wars with Melkor got kind of annoying, because of that they started to siege the extremely weakend Melkor (not very successful) until the other Vala came and beat him up.

a great deal of suffering, from the Sinking of Beleriand and basically all the
warring before then to the War of the Ring itself, given that if they’d had the
slightest bit of savviness about them they’d never have forged any of the Rings
in the first place. All of their giving up their homeland and such is basically
just them fixing stuff they screwed up millennia prior.

I'm pretty sure it's heavily hinted at that the war with the demons lasted for several decades, and possibly even as long as a century, since Malekith was born during the war, and he was a young adult when Aenarion died and Bel-Shanaar was elected. So probably around 60 years old at the very least. Plus, Anlec was build by Aenarion, and it was one of the most powerful citadels in the known world, an architectural masterpiece that could have taken - again - decades, if not centuries. Princes were not as much previous tribal chiefs as they were the warriors in the retinue of Aenarion's generals, a military corps that became the elven aristocracy later on, explaining why nobles treasure the weapons forged for their ancestors by the priests of Vaul, as they are signs of their warrior lineage.

They also have their stand ins for greek mythology, including Artemis, Athena and Aries. Lastly, they also have a few references to Arthurian mythology. I know the authors were history enthusiasts, but they could have stood to not be so overt with their inspiration source when making the elven pantheon.
It also seems like the first Phoenix King was King Arthur and Malekith is Mordred (with a dash of the Witch King of Angmar).

First of all, fuck the End Times. Everything about that is fucked. There was so much retconned lore in that.
As far as our attitude towards the other races... All your greatest wars and battles are PETTY compared to the shit the High Elves have seen. Arch really doesn't sell the desperation that was Caledor's solution to chaos. The world was straight up doomed. As in ripe to be ravaged by chaos. Even Aenarion drawing the Sword of Khaine only served to delay the fall of the Elves.
None of the High Elves history in the early incursions of chaos is 'mythical' history. Shits straight up hardcore fact. High Elves are basically immortal, crazy few having died of 'old age.' The oldest always seem to get killed saving the world from exploding.
As far as the High Elf religion goes, elves believe in a duality of "human nature." Somewhat chaotic in the 40k sense, but they believe there is a time for everything. Growing, harvesting, creating, and destroying. The worship of Khaine pretty much only takes place on the battlefield. The don't believe that someone is either entirely good or entirely evil. For instance, murder or war is evil, but necessary. But devoting yourself to war is not balanced. This is why the rest of the High Elves are suspicious of the Shadow Warriors.
All in all, yes we're haughty. Yes we're arrogant. Yes we occasionally run into the old world or some other place and kill a bunch of people. But we taught you magic. Magic. We are the single reason you have that. Additionally, more often than not, we pull all your asses out of the fire. So, sure. We're dicks. But we're largely good dicks. The Dark Elves are the real bastards.

I noticed you pronounced the Ulthuan provinces differently. I personally pronounce Cothique with a long "o" and like unique. For Yvresse, I say eve-reese (like peace) out of personal preference😃 Also I noticed that a lot of people, not just you, call Lothern "Lothren". Not being critical, I just think it's interesting. There is no definitive right way to pronounce any of the provinces except for maybe Eataine.

The elves seem most likely to be added in the upcoming expansion (2 confirmed, for a total of 3 games, much like dawn of war 2). I think a total of 6-7 races seems likely, as that's what DoW II did. Elves will likely have wood elves, high elves and dark elves as subfactions.

    On the point of high elves having a god of rape and all sorts of other awful things;
I agree, on superficial glance it sounds like an awful idea to have a church for something like rape.
However, there is a certain element of brutal honesty in this. All people, elves included, have some darker aspect within themselves, pretending that's not true doesn't help anyone in any way.
So what's the solution of the elves? Face the inner darkness, do not shy from it, do not let it over come you and never forget.
Atleast, that's how it seems to me.

I'm intrigued by the derivation of your name, Arch. Perhaps the rarely used adjective, as the curved masonry construction seems a bit prosaic.
    arch
    /ɑːtʃ/
    adjective
    1.
(prenominal) chief; principal; leading: his arch rival
    2.
(prenominal) very experienced; expert: an arch criminal
    3.
    knowing or superior
    4.
playfully or affectedly roguish or mischievous
I'm guessing mostly 2 (in matter of Warhammer, at least) with a smattering of 3 and 4.
Anyway, good work on the Warhammer lore videos.

They were originally good friends, then a civil war between the elves and a poor decision made them bitter enemies. Interesting to see a lot of people comparing high elves to the USA when almost all of their arguments could double for the UK, and on top of that being a relatively old people forming a powerful *island* nation which simply doesnt describe Americans.
I dont care either way and think real world blanket comparisons for fantasy worlds are pointless (especially when most factions are amalgamations of different real world countries/cultures/eras mixed with other things that simply have no real world counterpart). Just saying arrogance, crazy politics and desire to be a world police also describe the UK.
