But I'm not happy to have to spend money on a rtr rc car to make it work properly. Shame on Wltoys 👎🏻
@@JohnRobinsonRC You're absolutely right 👍🏻😁 Probably we should do that! I'm going to let you know, if I'll contact Wltoys. I really was thinking about sending it back.
Will you be attempting a 4s battery in the future for the Wltoys 124017? The new ESC should be able to handle it. Another get video as always. You've done it again sir.
What are the ESC temps like? i have a few of the 60-80 a surpass hobby ESCs here but never tried one. I have an associated (reedy) 120a ESC in one of my cars that keeps going into thermal shut down, even the steering stops working temporarily. This is not good.
Hiya. I have had zero issues with any of my Surpass Hobby esc's. Temps are fine and no shut down at all. I'm mega impressed by the quality vs the price.
Hiya. As you saw on this video, I was having huge problems. I did bring new batteries so put them in but it didn't seem to help. I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I can find a solution, however I think the only way will be to replace the receiver and remote. 😕😔
Yes I went up initially to run on the road that we managed one run at the end of the video. But when we got there it felt like every speed racer in Malta were racing on it. So I went back there to record an intro and decided to use it as it was quiet. Not ideal but better than my usual spot. And yes the wall always straightens the car up! 😂😂😂🤣👌
Hiya. Yes it is still a problem. The best way I have found that improves it 90% is a 60a esc. If you can get an 80a brushless ESC then that would be better.
I'm actually starting to think the problem with the cogging is the size of the minion, it's 27t and it's a bit big for a 2845 motor, mabye u should try a 3659 motor and see if there is any difference, because the new 124017 esc is still clogging.
Yes that's exactly the issue. They have not changed the gear ratios from the 124019 which is causing this issues. I'm happy with changing an esc which fixes the issues. I am sure many feel the same way as me that they don't want to have to buy a new motor, pinion and motor mount to fix an issue. To fix the cogging you will have to reduce the top speed even more. That's just not good. 😕
@@JohnRobinsonRC agreed, but what I plan to do is change the motor to a 3650 motor, I already ordered all the parts, so I will update you about my results. I don't plant to change my esc, because its kinda pointless, unless changing to a bigger motor is useless then I will try changing the motor and esc
@@JohnRobinsonRC there is no need for an adjustable one, 3650 fits perfectly, I just bought a 124019 motor mount, because the 124017 one only firmts 28mm motor, thanks for wishing me luck!
You don't need one no. I have only just bought one after 18 months. But some say it makes the whole driving experience so much better as you can tune everything. Power delivery. Braking strength. Some even have a basic abs from what I was told. 😁
Always a risk unfortunately. However as of yet I have not heard of anyone blowing up an esc except for one person that used a 120c rated battery. Don't go higher than 50c in my opinion and you should be fine.
Uhm. How did you come to that conclusion may I ask? If the receiver was the problem then when I swapped the esc's, the problems would still be there. 🤔🙄
Then i can buy the older models and put in brushless combo its cheaper and the new ones with the longer wheelbase are bad for bushing with their staight nose . Its shows only WL toys dont make their job only want to sell new cars. Put in a brush motor with crapy ESC. No improvment in RC parts cars goes much faster and you lost the control because of the range of a kiddytoy. Tires are fucking bad fo this speeds. So please tell me for what sould i pay the money?? The old one with better upgrades is near the same price and FASTER ;-)

@@JohnRobinsonRC or if you have a rpm gun.. lol
@@JohnRobinsonRC what am I saying you know way more then me lol
Fun to comment ideas 💡
Are the bullet connectors on the stock motor the same size as the surpass esc's so just plugs in?
I just crushed mine to fit. Worked like a charm. I'm assuming connectors can be bought though for a better fit. I'll have to check.
ESC 80A solves the issue of cogging on 124017 in grass and off-road?
Hiya Nick. It improved it by about 90% however there is no long grass in Malta at this time so I can't say for sure. It helped on hills as well so I am sure it would have improved on grass as well. On gravel for sure it helped. 😊👍
I need those tires
Thanks a lot John for your video. I really appreciate it 👍🏻 Just got my Wltoys 124016 and wltoys is really annoying me too! I wouldn't have thought it's possible, but the electronics/configuration in this car completely su*ks! I can't believe it! It's a complete customer fooling. What is Wltoys thinking of?! So thanks to your video I want to try a Robitronic Razor ten 60A 3652 4000kV esc/(motor) combo. I'm looking forward to see the car work properly. But I'm not happy to have to spend money on a rtr rc car to make it work properly. Shame on Wltoys 👎🏻
Yes I have to agree 100%. Its terrible how we have been left to fix the issues. Wonder if we should all send wltoys the bill for new electronics? 😂😂
@@JohnRobinsonRC You're absolutely right 👍🏻😁 Probably we should do that! I'm going to let you know, if I'll contact Wltoys. I really was thinking about sending it back.
Well if you decide to do that then please let me know. Have a great week! 😊👍
Will you be attempting a 4s battery in the future for the Wltoys 124017? The new ESC should be able to handle it. Another get video as always. You've done it again sir.
Hello mate. Uhm, yeah sure. I'll have to buy one but do you mean with the stock esc or these ones? 😉
@@JohnRobinsonRC The upgrade 80a ESC. The original ESC will not be able to handle 4s.
Right I'll give it a go today and see if I can make big bang bang. 😂🤣
@@JohnRobinsonRC I know you will be safe as always and looking forward to the video.
I WANT big bang but I trust you! 😎😁😁😁
I'm about to break my own 60mph 3s Q901 record just loading up the trucks
What are the ESC temps like? i have a few of the 60-80 a surpass hobby ESCs here but never tried one. I have an associated (reedy) 120a ESC in one of my cars that keeps going into thermal shut down, even the steering stops working temporarily. This is not good.
Hiya. I have had zero issues with any of my Surpass Hobby esc's. Temps are fine and no shut down at all. I'm mega impressed by the quality vs the price.
Please tell how to fix problem with bad range of stock transmitter/reciever. Is it possible or not?
Hiya. As you saw on this video, I was having huge problems. I did bring new batteries so put them in but it didn't seem to help. I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I can find a solution, however I think the only way will be to replace the receiver and remote. 😕😔
Hi, I have the 124017 v2 which ESC suite's the best for 3s? Many tks
I am extremely happy with the Surpass Hobby 60 or 80 amp. Had for over a year without issues.
Thanks again, so I will go for the 80 amp. 👍
Hola cómo están mi wltoys 124017 prende el servo mueve las ruedas pero cuando quiero avanzar no avanza nose xq me hace eso ?me podrían ayudar
Not an ideal speed run location but it does have that convenient brick wall to stop your RCs 😂
hi put race star 80amp esc i struggle to keep it straight
Very cool! Thanks for sharing. 😊👍
How do you keep those little buggy from wheelies
Well it's not easy as you can see. Gentle throttle and pray. 🙏😂😂
I can't believe the pinion came loose.wow. you can never usually remove them things lol.
I got 91.733kph with a 3s 100 c lipo battery 57 mph top speed version 2 / 4300 kv motor 19 tooth pinion
I have the all black one and it comes alive on 3s, not so much on 2s
I actually have several of them and same thing, they all work great btw!
Hiya mate. Yeah great little esc's. Very happy and great value for money. 😊👍
Hi..i am planning to buy 124017.is it the cogging is normal?how i can prevent that?
Hiya. Yes it is still a problem. The best way I have found that improves it 90% is a 60a esc. If you can get an 80a brushless ESC then that would be better.
@@JohnRobinsonRC thank u sir.
46 on 2s is fantastic but 56 on 3s seems pretty bad.i expected 60 mph..maybe battery or tires were weak link...
Ok good luck! Just remember to buy a adjustable motor mount. 😊👍
@@JohnRobinsonRC there is no need for an adjustable one, 3650 fits perfectly, I just bought a 124019 motor mount, because the 124017 one only firmts 28mm motor, thanks for wishing me luck!
So is it as simple installing the mentioned esc to eliminate the cogging and get a speed boost?
Yes that's the great thing. Nothing else is required which is why I tried it. Simple to install and helps so much. 😊👍
@@JohnRobinsonRC thanks John. Will order asap
You are welcome. Surpass Hobby is the one I would go for. If you can afford the 120a it will improve it further. The 120a went 5 kph faster
@@JohnRobinsonRC one more thing. Do I need a programming card? Cheers.
You don't need one no. I have only just bought one after 18 months. But some say it makes the whole driving experience so much better as you can tune everything. Power delivery. Braking strength. Some even have a basic abs from what I was told. 😁
Hello. What s the risk to use a 3s battery on a 124017 v2?
Always a risk unfortunately. However as of yet I have not heard of anyone blowing up an esc except for one person that used a 120c rated battery. Don't go higher than 50c in my opinion and you should be fine.
What model is it
You remind me of Simon Cowel 🤣 I really don't know why 🤔
Wish I had his cash though..... That would be a good day! 😁😁😁
ESC 60a ?
So it's not RTR it's RTU (upgrade) Sounds like my Arrmas... 🙄
Yep that's about right mate. And I love the rtu! 😂 You need it a little longer though. RTUAUHGTD! Can you work that out? 😉😉👍
Its the esc
its the reicever thats the problem not the ec
Uhm. How did you come to that conclusion may I ask? If the receiver was the problem then when I swapped the esc's, the problems would still be there. 🤔🙄
@@JohnRobinsonRC seen another reviewer put dumbo receiver in put the old tyres on from the brushed and reprogramed ec and no cogging on 3s did 55 mph
Well Richard it seems like all solutions seems to work. Swap receiver works. Swap esc works.
Im sorry this was a waste of time. Do it on a good surfice.
Sorry that makes no sense. Any surface when testing a new RC Car is worth it. And at the end of the video I tested on a perfect road and got 2 or 3 kph more so it wasn't that bad a surface was it?
