    Hey many thanks. im getting started again after 25 years out of music/midi. Yea im an oldschool 80s synth guy. lota great vintage gear i LOVE. Nice to see people our age teaching each other music tech. I Just can't find good midi recorders any more. and there is no midi only software anymore. All my sequencers are great but take floppy disks . thats no good now. Today it's all drum and loop pattern orineted devices. so im trying to marry real MIDI things to Daws. Seems Reaper is more midi friendly than most. Your tutorial got me right to the menues i needed to get started once again.
    You should do a tutorial of recording MULTI MIDI channels/devices Such as group playing session of say 3 or 4 synths at once all on different channels and tracks. i have a Rodgers classical organ where each manual and the pedal board is on its own midi channel. so i need to learn how to record the whole performance at once but each in its own track. Then do another tutorial on editing the midi channel output after recording data OR sorting multichan recordings that are in one track into different tracks etc maybe adding controler data to a midi track and so forth. post production of midi data. i do Jean Michelle Jarre type stuff. Just some Ideas for tutorials.
    BTW Im using reaper on a MS surface tablet as my onstage midi sequencer. instead of a clunky computer sitting around. many thanks JOHN
    .

      I'm a metal musician, but I respect the hell out of jazz musicians. They can't do what I do and yet I can't do what they do. There should be a mutual respect in that it takes skills to play both genres well (emphasis on WELL, there are so many terrible metal bands)

    Would you know why / what setting is preventing me from hearing MIDI playback on a channel? No virtual instruments being used - just a MIDI keyboard to a MOTU midi interface box to the Mac. This setup records the MIDI event just fine - I can see every note I played on the track. Yet - no playback back to the keyboard as I expect to hear. This is a very basic setup - I don't know why so hard to make this work - maybe I am overlooking something - thanks!

      Hey Larry, thanks for stopping by the channel. By default, Reaper has monitoring turned off. There's a button beside the input on the track that needs to be turned on. Try that?

    Hi, my problem is that there's a delay time between the moment I press the key and the moment I hear the actual sound. I tried setting the attack time of the sound to 0 seconds but it's still not working... any idea? Thanks!

    This is probably a dumb question but im so new to this, when you hook up your keyboard can it play the synths that are installed on the keyboard? Or does it need vst selected in reaper?

    • @Jazzmentl
      @Jazzmentl  2 года назад +2

      Reaper cannot understand the keyboard sounds that are installed on the keyboard. However, there are plenty of free VST plugins that can duplicate the keyboard sound and in many cases do it much better. Hope that helps.

    • @sip2685
      @sip2685 2 года назад

      @@Jazzmentl yes, I have a Yamaha p140 and a midi in/out to usb cable. When I connect it to reacher and allow midi preferences it doesn’t seem to work. It isn’t capturing the midi I think. Works fine in GarageBand but the Steinway piano in there sounds awful
