Great explanation of heel bevel! I never realized the "science" behind shoe heel design, which will make my shoe choice much easier.

Fulcrum is the word you were looking for. Apex is the shortest distance around a corner.

The differences in people are so interesting. I find the Ghost Max 2 to be one of the smoothest shoes I’ve ever ran in. I thought it looked flat too but didn’t feel that way to me

Seriously, I just logged on looking for shoes with a good heel bevel. Thanks for making this. I also come in on the outside edge of my heel, so I need shoes that aren't too wide, as they hit the ground too early and erode quickly.

Many of the shoes that have a posterior medial heel bevel, are shoes that try to make a centered bevel, but they place thicker rubber on the lateral side (as this is were the most wear will come). Some shoes I have that does this is the Reebok Floatride 3 and the Skechers Ride 8, and both create excessive pronation for me.

I used to like Karhu for the awesome rocker/bevel construction. Now tons of shoes do it though, so I usually stick to more popular brands.

Thanks for this. I used to think that bevel's where the enemy but it's given me a great perspective. I land the the lateral heel and like a bit of medial heel support so a lateral heel bevel could be something else to look out for in shoe choice. I'm curious how far we can go with a bevel. I may try to cut up some old running shoes to see if i can engineer my perfect bevel.

    Wow great video.
What you say about the Boston 12 I totally felt. I am a supinator and land at my heel and stay to long on my lateral feet side and have so problems in foot stability and have more problem to load in pronation. A wider lateral flank or side walls help but the heel I did not look at. Pronation stability shoes or more rubber medial in the midfoot are also not that great I found out they push me lateral. I think the puma magmax, hurricane 24 or Skywalker x or nb 880 would be good for a recovery / long run shoes?
Is there a list of shoes
    -Recovery/ long
    -Tempo interval
    -Race 5-15km
You can commend for heel strikers and supinators that have a stable for foot. For me it so hard to see al those differents

I think the bevels/rockers can be too helpful and deactivate/weaken muscles in the feet and lower legs.

Worst heel bevel in the history of running shoes? Easy. Altra Paradigm. The guys at Altra clearly 1. lack the talent of the bigger brands and 2. are smoking crack. Altra makes so many weird design choices I can't comprehend otherwise. They made a zero drop shoe that forces you to not just heel strike but violently heel strike, slams your foot down, I guess this is called "slappy", and then lacks any kind of rocker, toe spring or even flexibility to be able to push off. Whats more all their shoes get narrower, taller and stiffer every year. With altra you get the clown shoe shape yet the toebox isn't actually any wider or roomer than other legit running shoes. The lacing system on the paradigm is also a gimmick, it's not attached to anything and doesn't do anything. What's up with their colorways too? Like is Altra okay? On the positive side, I will say that the Via Olympus 2 has an excellent heel bevel and is a very comfortable shoe. Of course it's being discontinued after like a year. Even though it easily has the highest ratings of all the road models aside from the Escalante.
