Bro thank you so much I knew I purchased the right parts you gave me best information on RUclips everyone don't explain it the way you do much respect from Jamaica 🙌🏽🇯🇲
Really like your straight to the point video. Nice job! Questions: What conditions should be in place such that the PCM will open the EVAP purge solenoid valve while the EVAP canister vent solenoid is opened? i.e. I would think at idle the purge solenoid valve would be closed. Conversely at some higher RPM, with other certain conditions the purge solenoid valve would be opened and its open duration measured via the oxygen sensors (sort and long term fuel trims). I cannot find the DETAILED operation of the EVAP purge solenoid valve as controlled by the PCM (over all the engine speeds and loads)? I would expect the EVAP canister vent solenoid to be open at all times and only closed for a leak test by the PCM. I would also expect the EVAP canister vent solenoid to be open when the engine is off and car parked.
It varies depending on the year and manufacture. Here is an example for a Third-gen Chevrolet Camaro ..150 seconds have elapsed since the PCM entered closed loop. ..Coolant temperature is above 176 degrees F. (80 degrees C.). ..When the PCM is not enabling injector shut-off, such as on vehicles with traction control while one drive wheel is spinning. ..The idle contact switch in the IAC motor is open. ..Engine speed is above 1,100 rpm. ..The engine metal temperature sensor is not indicating excessive temperature. ..Low coolant level is not indicated.
@@HVAC_Mechanic Have 2004 Malibu Maxx 3.5L - summer conditions - Long Term Fuel Trims way negative (-25) on both banks - temp 180 - various RPM - coolant level to spec. When the PCM commands the EVAP purge solenoid to open, does the PCM also command the EVAP canister vent solenoid to close or open?
thanks for the video....I have an f150 that I can't put more then a gallon in without clicking off. Disconnect charcoal canister and it still happened. It definitely not opening to let pressure through. Needed a good symptom video to confirm my suspicion. Thanks.
Any possibility that some part of this vent system would make a loud whining noise? It only happens when the outside air is hot. Calgary summer days right now.
Thanks for your great video's strait to the point and very informative. My 2003 f150 has po 455 and 457 . Watching your video's I confirmed my purge valve is good. I hooked a new to me smoke tester to the line at the purge to the tank. I applied 12 volts to the vent valve to close it. I had smoke seeping out of the pressure sensor at the top of the tank and a very very small amount coming out of the charcoal canister outside air port. I dropped the tank part way and put a new pressure sensor in. Same results still smoke at the sensor and canister. Smoke machine under to much pressure (which has a built in regulator) ? If not is there something I can do to stop the leak at the new sensor from the blow by at the o ring ? Thanks for any help or input.
My mechanic says I need this but I have a code for a very small leak and I have a bad o2 sensor, my question is, is my mechanic scamming me because I’ve seen most of these solenoids cause large leaks
Thank you for this information. Currently still have a P1457 code even after replacing the charcoal canister and solenoid valve. No one rents a smoke tester, and the repair shops qoutes for the smoke test are between $150-$300. There has to be a better dyi for this issue. Any suggestions?
Going crazy. Have a evap issue with 02 Suzuki XL-7. Decided to replace the whole contraption to eliminate rusted evap lines and old hoses. The vent solenoid body definitely leaking. In my process I've found a small line coming from the fuel tank vent that goes to what looks like a check valve. Seems simple to just replace but not sure if it should really be a one way or a metered valve. Seems like open going toward tank and restricted going into larger line that goes toward charcoal cannister. Don't want to install a new one way check valve if it is supposed to allow air both ways. Also not sure if it is even needed if there is a evap solenoid doing this job already. Confusion as to if it is to hold back some pressure to stop the gas pump when filling. Not seeing this valve in any diagrams I find online... don't want to install something that may have been done previously in error...
There are differences between EVAP systems depending on the year, vehicle, and manufacturer; the only way to know is to find an EVAP diagram for the vehicle.
I have a 2003 ford focus 2.3 my engine light cam on sunday afternoon as soon as i started my engine and i got a po446 cont circuit code could this be a bad vent solenoid ? I has a slit second where I smelled raw fuel one time and every other time i fuel up it clicks as soon as i put the nozel in
Hi I have a 2003 Ford ranger 3.0 V6 my motor is running rough and when I stop and shoot down the motor I hear like a weasel on the back of the truck you think that's one way to know that the canister vent valve is bad?
Have a p0456 code on my 2010 hyundai sonata .mechanic says need to replace charcoal canister. I already paid to replace vent control value 2 days before. How do i know that is what's wrong?
That is my question I have now. I just bought a vent valve for only 32 bucks, figured I'd start w the small thing first,.. guna install in the morning so hopefully this is it...
On Moms 2010 Chevy impala , throwing a Po453 and po463. When working on Putin a new fuel pump, noticed the 3/4” hose coming off the evap canister was full of fine dirt, from the dirt road she lives on. Gas tank was clean. The vent valve was slap full of dirt and the hose. The top has tabs , so you can take it off and clean it. Has a round sponge filter to washout as well. Should I just put it back on and try it ? Should I also put a new charcoal canister on. Not throwing codes for either.
As long as there is no wiring issue, swapping out the fuel pump will likely solve the codes. I would only swap out parts once they fail, but if you think they are ready to fail, it may be a good idea.
I have a 2018 ram 1500. I’m told I have to replace the entire tank. No “check engine” light. No lights on the dash. Was told my service team they ran a diagnostic, which didn’t show anything.
Please help me if you can. We have a 2014 mini Cooper countryman after 150,000 miles. It has been a pain in our butts. There is a clicking sound when the car is cranked when we first noticed it we were out of town, and they said that it was afuel tank vent valve. Nothing to worry about they said, but now it’s making this clicking noise. We’re scared to drive it very rough idol. Please help if you can. Thank you.
How about diagnosis the opposite where the automatic shut off doesn't activate soon enough so that everytime you fill up a small amount of gas spills out before it shuts off.
Completely same problem on vw polo 6r i did the same things as you. Did you replace vent valve or charcoal canister? have you got rid of the p0441 code?
If you have liquid fuel coming out of the vent valve I would guess your charcoal canister is full of gas as well. Do you "top off" your tank on fill-up instead of stopping when the gas pump shuts off the first time?
@JK41071 I had already replaced the canister before this. I looked under my other silverado and how those lines were hooked up. Turns out I switched the smaller rear lines so they weren't hooked up to the right things.
I had my EVAP solenoid valve replaced in my 2020 Ram 1500 and it still has check engine light on and the gas pump clicks like crazy. Do you think it’s the tank, charcoal canister, roll over valve or filler neck?
That is a common system of a bad vent valve. Was the correct solenoid replaced and tested? There are usually two solenoids: the purge valve (evap solenoid) located in the engine bay and the vent valve located near or built into the charcoal canister.
Yes, this is true. I should have clarified this better. You can turn it off by adding power, usually with a scan tool, or be aware of its location and that smoke will come out of it.
Hey man, I have a 19 Camaro SS (6.2 V8). My evap vapor percentage is CONSTANTLY in the negative (measures in inH20). Even with the evap command is zero it still stays negative. I'm running extremely rich, and have checked everything. When it starts to evap command goes to zero (shutting), the vapor percentage reading goes EVEN MORE in the negative (-4.6 inH2O). It's constantly purging while I'm driving, it seems, rarely does it go to zero. What would cause this?
It needs to be diagnosed but I would test the purge valve in the engine bay. I made a full video on all the EVAP components and how to test them; here is a link. ruclips.net/video/C5s3Rx3wjD0/видео.html
@HVAC_Mechanic car did seem to run better with it disconnected, and my fuel trims did get a tiny bit better, and the inh20 reading was EVER so slightly in the positive for the first time i had ever seen.
The engine should still start. If the purge valve (separate from the vent valve) is stuck open, sometimes, it can affect the engine and may cause longer start times, but usually, the engine will start.
Bro thank you so much I knew I purchased the right parts you gave me best information on RUclips everyone don't explain it the way you do much respect from Jamaica 🙌🏽🇯🇲
Very informative 🙂 as I apparently need one of these replaced, and like to have a better understanding.

Hand held pump and a cigar
If I do a smoke test on evap system , do I need to manually close the evap Selenoid?

Sometimes it’s just the hoses that are dirty inside, especially that one that vents out air.
What should be the values of an ohms and a volt test? Thx.
GREAT Fuc$&@% Video bro!!! Thank you so much!!🙏
No auto codes-what is the air valve fuse labeled as in the fuse boxes
I have a P0442 and changing the gas cap and purge valve did nothing to fix it. I’m wondering if it’s the vent valve in back.
will a bad purge solenoid cause the pump to kick off also

P0442 could it be the canister? Small leak detected
can the Vapor Canister Purge Solenoid also cause the same problems/symptoms?

I am having same problem on 2004 F150 4X4. Have you found fix?
I have a 03’ Dakota V6 3.9L. Code: P0441
Replaced the Gas Cap & Purge Valve. Should I replace the vent valve and/or the evap canister.
Completely same problem on vw polo 6r i did the same things as you. Did you replace vent valve or charcoal canister? have you got rid of the p0441 code?
Got a PO0456 code. Evap vent valve seals ok with light pressure, but not with vacuum. Would that generate an code?
I got a great question, should gas be coming out of the valve?
The only gas vapor comes out of the vent valve. It should not be liquid.
@HVAC_Mechanic tell me about it.. ugh, no idea what the hell is going on 🤦♀️

I'm stuck with the same code p0446 , did you figure it out yet??
Thought that’s what the code for the evap sensor
Code p0446 is purge.. Google p0446 it'll tell you
Is a neg 1 psi normal for a fuel tank?

Is possible to clean the vapor vent valve canister
If a hose or port is clogged up, they can be cleaned out, but the canister itself would need to be replaced.
Can I leave the evap solenoid open? I have no way to close it.
My Honda (over half a million miles) makes some odd noises, right above the accelerator, once the ac is shut off. Is this normal?
You rock 🪨
if you do a smoke test and smoke comes out the valve, its not necessarily bad because it is normally open until it gets a signal, correct?

Does it effect your car from starting?
I have a Mitsubishi eclipse 2007 gs and check engine light is on but it will go on and of but my code is p0431 need help
A P0431 code is usually a bad 02 sensor or catalytic converter. I made a video on this code, here is a link. ruclips.net/video/7Dm_G2dyCGw/видео.html
Another symptom you forgot was a ticking sound which sometimes sounds like a rod or valve knock
Mine pump just run for 2seg and shut off i have a new charcoal canister
