Has an Apple Store, only malls in good shape have it. Grew up less than 3 miles away, been going there since it opened. The AMC theater was across from the Aunt Annie. It also had a Bally's health club to the right of the closed Sears. Had some interesting interior finishes in the early days. Space Port for video games and a very good Brothers Pizza (Red Moon pizza was also very good in the Mercer Mall but closed around Covid).
I was cleaning out my desk and came across some 2017 - 2018 paper directories from my local mall. I was going to put them in recycling but donated them to the historical society. They were excited to receive them. It's cool to think that someone a hundred years from now could be looking at them to see what malls were like.
I remember the movie theater being where that Lens Crafters is now located and across from it used to be the arcade where I first played Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter!
Hey! My main mall since the late 90s. You are correct that hallway was the original food court. However upstairs where forever 21 is. There was a McDonald’s there. Next to a build a bear, kb toys and a sub past. On the opposite end near JCPenney there was also a Wendy’s as well. There was also a huge FYE next to JCpenney. The mall has changed a lot over the years and around 06 to me it kinda lost its identity.
When the mall first opened in '76, where Wendys was it used to be a nightclub. Live band. We would sit outside of it and listen to music. After that and before Wendys, I think it was a Roy Rodgers.
I grew up with this mall. I remember the play pit, the multiple water fountains, the pet store and Duke's Pub which was open after hours and had live music.
Remember the Lego stuff in the pits? I vaguely remember being a child and playing with large quantities of Lego and sometimes they'd have fancy large-scale Lego models (like of ships several feet long, or 6' tall Disney castles, etc) with "Do Not Touch" signs.
Yay, you visited Quakerbridge! A very Simon mall indeed. Reminds me a lot of Freehold Raceway Mall, another Simon mall a bit further north (similar stores and layout, but more foot traffic). The Sears was a Spirit Halloween this past fall. I'm not sure how long ago you visited but the Winner Every Time is now a fully fledged arcade called MiniCade. I will say the mall is usually busier in the evenings. I do wish they would open more stores with all the space they have from the shuttered anchor stores.
You are correct, this mall opened in 1976 but I think it was April 1st. I was going to go to the grand opening but decided to stay home and watch the premier of the tv movie “Helter Skelter” about the Manson family so I went the next day. Couldn’t tape it, no VCR’s yet lol! The movie theaters were right at the low south main entrance down the hill from JC Penny. Spaceport was right across from the theaters. It had a Record Museum, Music Scene and of course a Spencer’s Gifts. My brother worked in the electronics department at Macys and got me great prices on audio and camera gear!
One of the store opened early. I remember standing at the barricades looking over the mall in final construction, along with everyone else in the area. 😅
The SoNo Arcade is better than any other Arcade you've been too at the piers or otherwise, but the "Winner Every Time!" Arcade at Quaker is a close second, most definitely. lol. We all know Claw Machines are your favorite "video game." Heh heh In all honesty, this was a very nice mall though, great video again.
Used to hang out here all the time back in the 80's. I was by here a few months ago and they must have had at least 20 Tesla Trucks lined up in the back.
Having grown up in that area I can tell you the theatre was where Lens Crafters was. In that large opening in front where Lord & Taylor was there used to be stairs that they took away. The only construction/add-ons were for Cheesecake Factory & Brio Tuscan Grill along with the escalator to the right when leaving JC Penney. Prior to that there used to be stairs when exiting JC Penney into the mall toward the left that they removed too. When Lord & Taylor was out and Nordstroms fell thru there was a rumor that Boscov's was moving in there but that appeared to be it. Just a rumor.
Nice mall walk through. That big ceiling sky window view looks great near the food court 2nd floor. Those "New. Arriving soon" future store walls sometimes never get new stores at the slower malls, but this one looks like it's doing okay. Thanks.
The soft opening was in 1975. One anchor store came online (I forget which). The movie theater was downstairs in the food court area next to Cosimos Pizza and across from the Space Port. The green thing was never an elevator. Penney’s was not reconstructed. Your “used to look like” entrances were a 90s iteration. It was all brown and smoked glass until the remodel. It was so much nicer until the genericisazion of the 90s and the present.
The movie theater was in the area of Len’s crafters. The green building was built as a health information center of sorts. There was also a gym with an indoor pool next to what was Sears.
Corect, and also a McDonalds on the second floor near the Sears side of Forever 21. AMC and McDonalds both closed due to trouble makers coming in via buses from Trenton.
I’ve been going there for over 40 years and at least the indoor area is as jampacked as ever, even in colder weather. People seem to favor Kate and Al‘s pizza on one end of the building, but Pete’s Pizza on the opposite end of the building has always been my family’s preference and as far as I can tell, they both use the same recipe.
Also, the movie theater was located on the first floor, where the old food court was next to that loft retail store. Also The arcade was right across from it.
I'm surprised you didn't mention how the parking lot on the Lord and Taylor side is filled with hundreds (if not thousands) of overstocked EVs in the area. Even Cybertrucks -- recently I drove past almost 40 of them. It's probably one of the most interesting things about this mall. It's also probably a significant source of rental income that keeps the mall going.
I noticed that one day when I went to Hobby Lobby. I haven't been in the mall in months and thought JC Penney closed because of all the parked Tesla models there.
2008 rebuild/expansion never happened due to the recession. Green thing was never an elevator, it was "Soft Seating Area" - I was a manager of the RadioShack during the first remodel.
Tom I remember a year ago you visited my local mall which is the NorthShore Mall in Peabody Mass and that is also a simon mall and it's still doing well and alway's pretty busy. Wish I could say the same thing about the Liberty Tree Mall up the street in Danvers. 😅
Wasn't it originally General Cinemas in the mall when it first opened or was it AMC back then? Or was General Cinemas over in Mercer Mall where the DSW is? I remember seeing movies at both locations back in the day.
Only the interior was touched, the outside is the same as it was 45 years ago with the exception of some façade changes and things like the Cheesecake Factory being added. Spaceport was where the ramen shop is and the AMC 4 was where Lens Crafters is along with the storefront to the left. For the first 15 years give or take, there was a Tiki Juice Bar where the Dunkin Donts is now. Fresh made tropical juice drinks and that 60s Tiki era décor. No, that was not an elevator though there were 2, one in Sears and one in JC Penny.
Some commemts: I don’t recall seeing an elevator in that spot with the green sitting area as far back as 2000. That game area near the steps used to go to an exit. The Sears spot hasn’t had a tenant since Sears, and I doubt it will. The food court was moved upstairs and is much bigger. Have to wonder if stores don’t want video now that theft is such a problem and it keeps thieves from knowing exactly how things are laid out in real time. There used to be a Wendy’s upstairs where the Dollar store is. That Macy’s is one of the most confusing stores to shop - stuff is always everywhere. It used to have a great kitchen area. There’s a JD sports store where there used to be kitchen supply store that’s sorely missed. The Apple Store is the only reason I ever go to this mall.
Very cool video! The movie theater was on the first floor pretty to close to one of the entrances. I believe it was at the north side of the mall near the entrance adjacent to Cheesecake Factory (though I’m not sure 100% on that). I remember seeing the Disney movie Blank Check there lol. Honestly, it was a pretty gross theater if I remember correctly (not the cleanest). I think it was a General Cinemas theater that eventually was taken over by AMC. Across from the theater there was a video arcade. I remember it was a pretty dingy place where a lot of weird people would hang out. Another store that was there that went out of business was Herman’s Sporting Goods. Lastly, while not in the mall, next to it on route 1 was a Roy Roger’s (where the Applebees and Dunkin’ Donuts is now)
As someone who commutes past that mall and goes there a ton of times, I wonder id being so close the Princeton University is helping it stay alive. If you are back in the area, my suggestion for a video is Princeton University/Downtown Princeton.
To be very honest, this mall has the Apple Store that everyone in Princeton goes to. It’s pretty much the only thing that gets me in that building anymore.
@@valdotorgI was a student at Princeton in the 80s. I did not have a car - but my dad would visit on a Saturday or Sunday with my aunt - and we’d go to Quakerbridge on occasion Dating myself - we’d go to Winberies, Beefsteak Charlie’s or the Rusty Scupper. A lot of places in Princeton were still there from way back - including Hoagie Haven, the Annex, and Thomas Sweet
Simon malls allow photo/videography, just as long as it's not a commercial venture (TV, for example). The individual stores may frown upon it. It's been this was for years now. Management may stop, and ask what you're doing, but Simon malls allow it.
Sears had an outside awning like the one in the video at Lake Forest Mall, now closed, in Gaithersburg, Md. I'd say with all the empty stores this is a very sick mall and will close within 2 years, give or take. On the other side of Route One there are numerous big box stores and supermarkets so no need to go to QB mall. Princeton U is just minutes away.
I don't like to go there any more because I worry about safety. The Sears store was doing so well. I hate that they closed it because they actually had a lot of good clothes and shoes. One of the cashiers told me, just a few months before they knew it was going to close, that they were having record sales every month. It didn't surprise me because the store was in such good shape, compared to all the other locations that you'd see online, that had empty sections and looked like crap. I was so hoping they might even be the very last Sears location in the U.S to close and it would be the one that all the RUclipsrs would flock to because of that. It's the only store where I ever found shoes that I actually liked. They were highly underrated for clothes and shoes. It's a shame.
I went there last week. All the work outside, blocking light, made me claustrophobic. It felt so closed in to compared to when I went in the early 2000s. Plus, outside J.C.Penny it looked like a Tesla dealership.
I think it's doing OK because the non-anchor stores are small compared to what you see in larger more deader malls despite 2 anchor stores being empty.
This my local mall and I think it’s actually doing pretty good compared to other malls. I think because it’s one of the smaller malls and I love the layout inside . It’s not too big .. my only gripe is the stores. If they add the store people want , this mall ain’t going anywhere
Originally there were steps in front of JC Penny. They were removed and the escalator was put in. Next to where Lord&Taylor was there used to be a nightclub with a live band.
The Sears store in this mall was doing so good, right up until it closed! I HATE that it's not there anymore. That and Payless were the only two places where I ever found shoes that I liked. It annoys me so much that neither of those two stores are around, anymore. Just a few months before it closed, a cashier told me that Sears location was having record sales every month. I don't think he knew yet that it was going to close, at that point. They actually had a lot of good clothes and shoes, but I think people just didn't realize it because their marketing was so bad. I was so hoping that the Quakerbridge Sears location might actually be the very last one open in the U.S and would be the one that all the RUclipsrs would be flocking to, to document it. They were in so much better shape than all the other Sears stores that people were showing on RUclips and stuff, that were missing all kinds of merchandise and looked like crap. They had like, maybe one empty section, but were otherwise looking great. I was so disappointed when I found out it was going to close.
This was one of my “would go to once in a while” mall as a kid and then went more once I had my drivers license. Across the street was one of the first Best Buy locations in the region. We could go there and buy cds for about half the price of the mall record stores! The mall looks waaaaay too clinical now. Sad. 😢
Also, what was the name of the nightclub that was there that had the private entrance next to JCPenney looking at his video? It’s where that slime lounges and at one time it used to be Wendy’s
Alot of the stores that manage to survive in one of the malls here in the tri-cities of Michigan are surviving there... Some that the mall has there have failed here in the tri-cities though and it wouldn't shock me if they start failing other places. :/
This is my home mall! It does seem to be doing pretty well. I dont know how the JCPenney is still standing, but it must be one of the highest performing ones and that is saying something. The last movie I saw in QB was Evita in 1997 with my Spanish class, and I dont know specifically where it was except that it was at one of the side entrances.. maybe where the Old Navy is now? Maybe someone can fill us in on that one. I am curious.
I hate that the Sears is out of business. I was so hoping that it would be the very last one to close and all the RUclipsrs would be flocking to it to document it before it did. It was doing so well. Just a few months before it closed, one of the cashiers told me they were having record breaking sales every month.
I like Quaker Bridge Mall and I think there is a decent amount of people there on the weekends. I don’t know if it’s a dying mall just yet. I think JCPenney looks the same as always and I’ve been to this mall multiple times since around 2005. I just remembered there used to be a Wendy’s in this mall and I think it was at that spot in front of where the broken elevator was. I might be wrong but I know it was a weird spot tucked away from everything else.
I would agree with your assessment that this is a just barely successful mall. After the last remodel, the mall has definitely attempted to be higher end, which doesn’t seem like a great demographic match. It’s missing 2 out of 4 anchors as you’ve noted, and I’ve noted that over the past 2 years following COVID, a large number of non-chain stores have come and gone. That said, it’s got a great location and I don’t think it’s likely to close in the next decade.
It’s wild how cookie cutter the Simon malls are. There’s a few in Southern California that look identical to this one, all the way down to the various renovations.
WTH @ 17:48, kind of a awkward place to put a business. I'm guessing it was the cheapest spot to rent. Overall, this mall still seems to be in full operation and it doesn't seem to be going out of business anytime soon.👍
Nice clean mall and I'd say it is doing ok but it's not too far from becoming a struggling mall. If the stores that are advertised as "coming soon" don't get there soon, that may tell you everything is you need to know.
Lord and Taylor made a significant attempt to fix up the store and from what I remember they did a nice job, but I guess it unfortunately failed anyway. Sears, not so much, but it was convenient enough place to pick up some tools or parts or an occasional appliance. Terribly mismanaged brand.
It it’s kind of barren to me and those stores don’t really have very many people in them. I find that mall to be boring looking nothing exciting at all, and dark in certain areas too much black and too much white my opinion.
The fact that you said that it’s “generic just like any other Simon mall” makes me sad and angry😡. Why even bother going and filming if you say it’s “generic “? You know what’s bad? Your reviews saying it’s generic. Pathetic. I am NEVER watching your videos again
Thanks to everyone for watching and commenting!

@@581rma, Duke’s Pub.
Some of the only good memories with my mom were here
I go here often lol best mall compared to others nearby... still a nice amount of traffic in the area 👌
spent many days there playing pinball at space port in the 70's.
Alot of the stores that manage to survive in one of the malls here in the tri-cities of Michigan are surviving there... Some that the mall has there have failed here in the tri-cities though and it wouldn't shock me if they start failing other places. :/
It was a Roy Roger in the 90s to
The JC Penney received an interior renovation at a later point than 2012, that was really all.
Amazes me how you can’t record videos inside stores but they can record you 😂
AYO WHAT?!?
Fleabitten Adventures, could you tell me what this old restaurant was between the JCPenney and The Cheesecake Factory?
That was Brio Tuscan Grill. KPot is planning to open there.
Quaker Bridge is still way off its peak; I remember how active it was when I was younger. The Apple Store is still great though
The Wendy's used to be where the current Hallmark is, upstairs right before JC Penney.
We have here in Delaware a namdar owned mall and as you and others have said Namdar will not revitilise there properties why i dont know why 😮
At least they were working on fixing the elevator
I would agree with your assessment that this is a just barely successful mall. After the last remodel, the mall has definitely attempted to be higher end, which doesn’t seem like a great demographic match. It’s missing 2 out of 4 anchors as you’ve noted, and I’ve noted that over the past 2 years following COVID, a large number of non-chain stores have come and gone. That said, it’s got a great location and I don’t think it’s likely to close in the next decade.
Might be ahead of livingston mall
Online shopping has killed once great shopping mall ! Another end of an era brought down by the internet.
Agree.
It’s wild how cookie cutter the Simon malls are. There’s a few in Southern California that look identical to this one, all the way down to the various renovations.
WTH @ 17:48, kind of a awkward place to put a business. I'm guessing it was the cheapest spot to rent.
Overall, this mall still seems to be in full operation and it doesn't seem to be going out of business anytime soon.👍
i always go to this mall!
I'm beginning to dislike Simon malls. Westfield also did a number on some of the local malls where I lived but nearly as bad as Simon.
Nice clean mall and I'd say it is doing ok but it's not too far from becoming a struggling mall. If the stores that are advertised as "coming soon" don't get there soon, that may tell you everything is you need to know.
I think if you have an Apple store in the mall its doing pretty well.
they never redid that penny's there i drive by there on my way back from PA
Well maybe the elevator kept breaking down you know like the first thing to go is the Escalators
I’d argue Apple store’s are slowly becoming the new anchor for malls but that’s just my gut feeling
It's giving true Simon mall
Lord and Taylor made a significant attempt to fix up the store and from what I remember they did a nice job, but I guess it unfortunately failed anyway. Sears, not so much, but it was convenient enough place to pick up some tools or parts or an occasional appliance. Terribly mismanaged brand.
Have you ever been to any mall owned by Moonbeam ?
Definition of Simon Malls
I went to this one back in March. I wasn’t a big fan of it, it was pretty boring looking to me. Oxford Valley is much better imo.
I believe the 2008 recession saved this mall by preventing over expansion
Is the Brio restaurant closed?
Yes it has closed
Simon just wants the real estate
It it’s kind of barren to me and those stores don’t really have very many people in them. I find that mall to be boring looking nothing exciting at all, and dark in certain areas too much black and too much white my opinion.
Philadelphia Mills was sold Simon no longer owns it also King of Prussia mall is owned by Simon
Typical Simon property, boring and lifeless
The fact that you said that it’s “generic just like any other Simon mall” makes me sad and angry😡. Why even bother going and filming if you say it’s “generic “? You know what’s bad? Your reviews saying it’s generic. Pathetic. I am NEVER watching your videos again
Ha ha. Ok
@@fleabittenadventures Sorry man. you can say whatever. i shouldn't have said anything. Are you ok?
