So many thoughts as I listened to this Torah portion! (15:38 time stamp) In Numbers 14 :10b-12 it says, "Then THE GLORY OF YEHOVAH APPEARED to ALL THE ISRAELITES(!) at the Tent of Meeting. And Yehovah said to Moses, "How long will this people treat Me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in Me, despite all the signs I have performed among them?" (Yes, I know He said more than this but I only want to discuss two points here:
    1. The definition of CONTEMPT: a lack of respect or reverence of something or someone; the state of being despised; willful disobedience of an authority.
    2. As shocked and dismayed I am at their disbelief in the face of all Yehovah had done, I couldn't help but feel my own shame at not believing enough in Him when faced with a dilemma in my life, thinking He couldn't or wouldn't be able to make a difference. And yes, I HAVE seen miracles and even though they weren't as earth-shattering as the Israelites experienced, I should know better than to doubt. I am inspired to do better in this regard. Lately, I have been focused on calling those things that are not as though they are. (Romans 4)

Oh, I enjoyed this Torah portion so much! I had forgotten that Moshe renamed Hoshea. And until you taught us, I didn't know the meaning of his birth name. It meant so much to learn that basically, the change was to tell him and everyone that Yah is the one who saves and deserves the glory. At least, that is what I took away from it. I hope I got that right. I can't help but wonder about what the others must have thought when they heard that he had been given a new name. Perhaps those who were jealous of him hoped he'd been "taken down a notch". On the other hand, did this come across as "an upgrade"? I know that they all understood the meaning of both names and I can't help but think that some were in each camp, for and against him being singled out and given a new name.

I was also impressed that it wasn't GOD who changed a name but Moses. I can't think of another time when someone's name was changed that it wasn't Yehovah or Yeshua doing it.
