Seems like the type of game we might come up with when we were bored as kids. Some of those games were awesome. If we'd have thought of this it probably would have been a favorite.
100% It's absolutely child-like in concept, but brutally intense in execution, at least for the very committed athletes. We've introduced it to children many times. It's usually a hit.
i just found out about this sport, and it seems like it strikes deep fundamental place into the competitive human soul.

Bruh, I never thought that the local sport where I live would blow up and go international.
Btw "mas" in Yakut language literally means "wood" and the sport's original name is "Мас Тардыһыыта" which mean "wood pulling"
Oh good. So when I'm saying 'mas stick' I'm not saying 'stick stick,' but 'wood stick.'
I was in Yakutsk about 5 years ago or so in the winter. Loved it and would enjoy going again. But in the international mas wrestling community, the Ukraine invasion put a big strain on relations. so now a bunch of countries are forming their own non-Russian federation, making the future of overseas competition unknown.

We called this "stick wrestling".
We used a broom stick and our feet were against the opponents feet.
That's how a lot of the older cultures would do it, like the Vikings and, rumor has it, some Native American tribes.
