Bike or car engine, bike engine in front would be a Honda Goldwing, in the back could be a Honda k engine. i olso have plan to build a faster and safer machine to recover F1 cars and others. It can olso be used to prepear the track for the race and lot's more. But now i have terminal cancer, so i have not the resorses to build the thing's i would like to build.

I used to have a Volvo 66 also with a variomatic gearbox. Looks just like a DAF too. You could actually push start it backwards. Never had so much fun with a car as I had with that one.

@@wyvern3 I'm well aware it's very far from a truck. Just saying I was always pretty good at reversing but when I got into trucks I became basically a 'professional reverser'. There is lots of technique which you won't appreciate until you do a lot of it. Max is clearly a beginner. He is making beginner mistakes.
It's more difficult than it looks, I once tried it with an old DAF destined for demolition, I ended up side down on the roof after the first attempt at a corner
Yeah, I mean, I was 17 when I started which is now not allowed anymore by the rules. You need to be 18. The first year was quite funny. I was not allowed to drive on a normal road, but of course allowed to race in F1.
We've seen Max Verstappen race caravans in the past and now we've seen him race in reverse. I think he's ready for the ultimate challenge: reverse caravan racing.

Driving backwards was popular on tv in the late 70’s. Most of the cars were DAF cars because they had only two gears; forward and reverse. In the same tv show, they also raced with caravans behind their cars. There definitely was often material on the track.
DAF actually invented the continuously variable transmission, which instead of am automatic transmission being a series of planetary and solar gears, they're really just 2 rubber bands that work in forward and reverse

While the patent has expired the original company which was a sub division of `van Doorne Automobiel-Fabrieken` (Van Doorne Auto-mobile Factories) is still one of the leading companies in producing the push-pull belt that is the main part for this type of transmission.
I remember as a little kid watching "Achteruitrijden" on TV with commentator André van Duijn. Hilarious! Back in those days everything was possible. Nobody had ever heard of safety. Good times back then. Only for the Dutch: "Me gras! Me gras!"

In 1993 Williams tested this CVT tranmission (Variomatic) in their F1 car. The biggest issue that they had to overcome was to find a belt strong enough to transfer the 850HP. They managed to do that but then it turned out that they would be so extremely fast compared to the rest of the field, that the FIA decided that F1 cars should have 4 to 7 fixed gears. So basically, a CVT works too well.
Infinite variable gearing. My wife just bought a new 2022 honda crv which has a cvt. Its shockingly good. Why don't all new vehicles have this is my question especially for regular passenger vehicles
DAF made a variomatic F3 and a hill climb race car themselves in the early 70's too. I think in this respect the great advantage of the CVT is that the engine doesn't have to do different revs very wll, you can design it and tune it for one optimal rev. Engine breaking is a bit tricky though.
Perhaps we should point out this was a part of a legendary Dutch TV programme back in the day. There should have been a voice over telling Max and Yuki to mind the grass next to the track.

Fellow old farts may remember Rob Slotemaker's driving school at a section of the old non shortened Zandvoort tracks parking. Student's learned how to control 180 and 360 spins and drifts. I recall an instructor approaching at speed a simulated garage, doing a 180 and stopping backwards exactly in the spot. That was pretty impressive. I believe Slotemaker operated a UK driving school as well.
The sad thing is Rob died after he crashed his Camaro on an oil spill on the track left by another competitor who blew up his engine. All of his anti-skid skills didn't save him in the end. He crashed into a Marshal safety car and carreened into a fence. He broke his neck and died there on the spot.

My Dad used to have a DAF 55 car, but at the same time also drove a DAF tipper truck for his job!. The cars were great though, very advanced for their time, and the coupe version is a very pretty little car. An unusual feature is that due to the mechanical layout, each rear wheel had its own drive (no rear axle). In slippery conditions, this meant that it behaved a bit like it had a LSD.

Don’t forget the old Subaru Justy automatic. They had variable gears as well. Also extremely fast backwards.
