Hi used to get IC air con Mk2 stock on the Portsmouth to Plymouth service, by 1989 I think it’s was Saturdays only 1st class. It was a favourite when changing ship in the Navy pity they were not on the Faslane or Rosyth service that split at Carstairs. Also I believe there was a Penzance to Southampton/Brighton IC service they too used the “mule”. Whats also interesting is the 4TC units being used would that just to Salisbury or would it venture to Exeter as well, got them to Weymouth prior to electrification good fun with a 33/1 all best Richard
@@thehogfat Possibly or a diversion, I can't think from where though. I lived on the mule in 89 after we lost 50s on inter City services after summer 88 and I can't ever remember seeing aircons on there. Oh well interesting anyway. The good old days 😁
@@stevecutts5450 No a spare set was used on and off depending on the normal Laira Mule set needing brake blocking or other reasons they hired in a IC set, Not a diversion.
I just noticed your name there Steve, yes they used IC aircons once in a blue moon, either if the set needed brake blocking or failed a pre check I can remember doing a set nearly every year from 1988 to 91 it only did an out and back, not sure what IC had to cover them though. anyway it happened at least 2 or 3 times a year, best one was 4 Mk1's on the first up from Exeter which was like an F1 car out of Gillingham for Tisbury where I worked.

Great filming & great location, gosh could almost smell them!🤓
proper railway love it
What was 27 working? Bizarre as it wasn't a mule service.
That was one the only rake of IC stock on the day Steve so i can only assume it was on spot hire to NSE. I think it was an Waterloo Exeter service
