I said this was gonna happen yesterday for that Indoor battle.. when you put Southern and Txsu in an OPEN field stadium. you will clearly hear the major difference in power and surround sound from Southern over Txsu. this was not what i call a battle. Southern pretty much man handled them almost to the point of child abuse.

I hear SU sound, which is great, back off the onbrass so we hear all the band 🎼🎷. I'm with TXSU on that O'Jays"Cry Together" and sound off together. Both bands are great.
I haven't kept up with bands since I was in the band at PV back in 2005-2008...what happened to TxSu??? They're not a small band but they were hell of a lot bigger than this. Their song selection and arrangements messed it up for me. They don't have the numbers to pull off the stuff they were playing. SU's brass has always been deep (50 million trumpets) and balanced across the board which helps make them a consistent powerhouse. They're like the Ohio State of HBCU's. Get the numbers up and arrange the music as needed. In a perfect world, all HBCU's would have good numbers. Unfortunately that isn't the case. These battles all come down to numbers, and as a result how the music is arranged to suit that particular band based off of their numbers and musical strengths. From there the band just has to execute and not fkin overblow everything they play.

As being a former Ocean Member, I can honestly say that we have a lot of work to do. I believe that Prof Gip has done an amazing job. To be a dominant force in the SWAC, we need the numbers. To be able to play the musical book to compete on a collegiate level, we have to keep building. Good Job to my Ocean...the more complete band displayed their muscle. Great job SU. #Whoooosh
I'm a graduate Alumni of TxSu and now a student at SU. I have been saying for the past 3 years that TxSu's band need to take a least a year or two off to get it together. And SU was not any better. I don't know what it is but they aren't as good as last year, especially the Dolls and Captain Gabby. Both dance teams look like high school dancers. I was bored with both band.

I said it before and I will say it again! SU controlled this match! They cried about SU’s book and the songs, and TxSU tried to match the arrangements against SU and exposed their limitations. They should have stuck to the strengths. Brass and Power write to your strengths. Southern showed how balanced they were. The Mids came out the Trumpets were there, the Melos had a shine, I can tell they’re trying to build a strong balance. No weaknesses. I feel like they’re building to battle bands like LSU, Ohio State etc... I’ve enjoyed the weekend, but overall, SU took the entire weekend. By controlling the book and showing diversity, forcing TxSU to become versatile which isn’t a strength. Good Job, they were out directed. 🎺🎺🎺 SU!
While I agree that this clearly not one of Southern best years, They still rank Supreme. TXSU Btones were overshadowing the whole band at points, especially in the gym battle. @@floydbraziel1577 i realize that s. u. is not as good as they use to be but they are still a good band and has remained pretty consistent throughout the years considering. I just wish that these young directors would concentrate more on putting on better field shows. It's like they just throw something together now a days. FYI i am also a fan of the ocean as well and last season when su played them ocean's halftime show was more entertaining to me. this year they didn't do it for me and s.u.'s wasn't spectacular either but i enjoyed it better. Anyways that's just my opinion no disrespect intended. I'm a fan of HBCU bands period. Happy Holidays.
