I also love cases in the ED that are "magically" solved by one maneuver or intervention. Foreign body, pulled elbow and hypoglycemia (less fun, but more rewarding) 😄
So thankful for this video tonight. We were in urgent care & ER to try to remove an adhesive earring and told we had to go to ENT to sedate first thing in the morning. I’ve never been so happy when it flew out in 2 blows (don’t think I had a great seal on the first) THANK YOU !!!!
I saw this technique on a short video years ago, I think on Facebook. Tonight my 2 year old came home from daycare fussy. We went to the park and while I was holding her noticed something blue in her nose. It was to far up and looked to be clogged so I did this and a blue cotton ball for arts and crafts came out. She must have stuck it up there at daycare. So glad to have learned this.
Just now my 3 year old son put a paper piece in his right nostril, me and wife have no idea about and were panic, very immediately i searched in the google and found your video, it helped me to take out the paper piece in the first attempt itself. Thank you very much. With love Arun Prakash Kerala (India)
Great video, thank you. I love finding the incidental FB. I saw an 8 or 9 year old girl in ED about something completely unrelated and happened to find a fossilised legume of some description in her ear. I removed with crocodile forceps. The look of wonder on her face when it came out and she realised she had been half deaf in that ear for years was amazing 😁
I had a friend who was taking care of her baby brother while her parents were out of town. His nose looked swollen. She called her aunt long distance. She was afraid he had a serious problem. She came right away. He had a sprouted bean in his nose.
Yes we use Katz extractors too - agree they are a great option. This is a great technique though because it allows the parents to resolve the problem themselves and doesn't involve sticking anything else up the nose.

Yes - having the triumphant success and a completely well and happy patient at the end of a procedure like this is wonderful!

Haha! Yes, always worth taking a look at the end to see if any surprises are there.
This is very useful. I just applied it to my son who inserted tissue paper into his nose. Thank you.
What would happen if the foreign object doesn't remove particularly a little candy?
How hard should parent blow? I get nervous of filling child’s lung with too much air.

Ya'll have Katz extractors across the pond? That's my go-to. But thanks for the tips!
