    In the Royal Tenenbaums, I always wondered if Margot was trying to emulate a "grown-up" as a kid, with the fur coat and smoking. Someone who wanted to grow up quickly, but now that she's there, she doesn't know how to go beyond that. Thank you for an amazing video - I learnt so much, especially about the Royal Tenenbaums.

      yes, you are right with margot wanting to be an adult but then being lost when she really is one!

      Why is that actually so relatable lol, I first smoked to look cool and now as an adult it's a mundane addiction

    I always thought the prison stripes in Grand Budapest were inspired by concentration camp uniforms - since it is set at the dawn of the Third Reich.

    • @mchjsosde
      @mchjsosde 3 года назад +54

      Much of what the third Reich did was based off of the American prison system, so I think both you and the video are correct

    Note on 12:35: in the Torah ("Old Testament") clothing is labelled as "shatnez/שַׁעַטְנֵז‎" if it contains a mixture of wool and linen, or another blend of a material that comes from an animal, and a material that comes from a plant. Wearing any shatnez clothing is prohibited, it's seen as mixing two life forms, and the rule of shatnez also prohibits mixing of any types of materials, and the planting of different seeds together. Like a lot of Jewish laws, the applications and definitions have evolved over time from that original definition, but I never would've thought it'd be interpreted as "stripes are bad" lmao. I had no idea that's why stripes are seen as revolutionary and counter-culture! Great video as always, really educational and well-thought out!

      @@oonooooooooo yes i am aware, however i wasn't refering to the speech impediment condition. I was referring to the stammer that is usually an insinuation of nervousness or the state of being unsure. I pointed out how not stammering makes her sound more knowledgeable and believable. I meant not disrespect towards Poole with a natural stutter and if it came off offensive, i apologize.

    En Moonrise Kingdom, a mi entender el vestido amarillo de Susie, también representa la conexión con Sam. Es el color que ambos comparten. Lo usa al final del film para dar a entender que pese a todo hay algo que los une. Es algo asi como el color de la conexión. El azul, que es el opuesto, es el color que usan para representar la desconexión, todo aquello que se interpone entre ellos dos.
    Muy interesantes todos tus análisis... Amo tu canal !!

    Have you seen Hercule Poirot, ‘The Labours of Hercules’? I love it for the suspense,Art Deco depiction and the feeling of being trapped in a high mountain Swiss resort of fading elegance. I dreamed about it after watching it. It’s not the same as Grand Budapest but I think you might like the costumes and story. I would be so interested in your take on it! Oh and also Miss Fischer’s Mystery Series - georgeous costumes and compelling themes!

    What a great video! The content was superb and your presentation of it was really well done. I've noticed lately that there's not a well established middle ground between "announcer voice" and casual speech but this just about nails it. Easy to hear and understand but still relatable and doesn't feel too artificial. Thanks for the great vid!

    i just wanna say bc im a hugeeee fan of royal tenenbaums and i never hear ppl talking about it, but to build on your last point- i think the wardrobe is a wonderful little red herring to how each character has grown; the things they want to change they cannot; like their past- but despite this baggage they manage to continue living and finding happiness thru small moments- and really the best example is royal laughing at margot's play at the end; in contrast to the beginning when he refused to even attempt to understand her plays; OK ANYWAY ramble over thank you ive been binging your channel all day and i loveee your videos so much
