the bolt does not ground the coil down, the ground comes from ECM through a wire . the bolt is just to hold the coil down . spark couldve been jumping up, wires rubbed metal valve cover and shorted , or rubbed each other and shorted
Ive heard that splicing coil pack wires can mess with resistance and may cause some issues, might wanna check into that dont wanna run it lean on 1 cylinder and burn a piston ect. . glad the car is good and jared is too and you guys made it back from cancun despite the zeta scare. glad to see some content rolling in .
When i got my car back from the tuners they had installed a fuel reg and a aluminium pipe to the injector rail, when I got home I just happened to look under the bonnet and there was fuel dripping down from a crack in the fuel pipe, i had it replaced with braid. The moral of the story, check everything when you have work done and regularly after and keep a fire extinguisher in the car.
A lot of older Utes here in Australia have torsion bars, the more you wind the bolt in (higher it goes) the stiffer it gets, so ride quality gets a bit shitbox
It looked like you had enough wire left on the harness to cut out the striped wires and repin a new connector instead of splicing it in. Splicing in should be avoided if possible, it creates a new failure point.
I dont see on your list where you got that spark plug cover, it seems some carbon fiber ones are discontinued. Are you going to replace it with another one and where did you buy the spark plug cover?
Is that aftermarket or genuine coil pack？Should be a short circuit caused this fire, and by looking at where it started, looks like a bad coil issue to me.
I had the same thing happen to my GTR, except it was fuel pump wiring. Loose connection created a hot spot, enging died, checked the boot and saw black charcoal wiring, melted plastic etc.. Not cool! Deffs need to have a extinguisher, never know what dodgy wiring the car has had in the past.
Who has a part # for the coil connector/harness? Mine failed yesterday. I thought I blew the engine, but thankfully, compression test was nearly perfect.
Btw you shouldn’t splice wires the same length you should stagger them and where you spliced the wires is not a good amount of length from the connector

connector looks melted, bets are wires shorted at connector or coil is shorted
or spark just jumped and the heat and stuff finally melted down, id replace coil, and fix harness and u should be good

Future reference you're supposed to unload the suspension when tightening up the torsion bar bolts or you can strip them out.
When you do that kind of wiring always do to diferents high no all the same, it’s better and you gone be more safe avoiding any kind of short

Get your truck aligned on the stocks then swap over your aftermarket wheels and tires.
With that much wire you could have staggered the spliced connections on each wire to make it as slim as possible and prevent a short again!!
