It is important to note that the relative sizes of the douks are sometimes misrepresented. However, it can be awkward to confirm the douk dimensions (the doukmensions) before taking one home with you. Also, as with any high-quality tool, lube appropriately.
Not only the fact that you split a large log with a slipjoint knife is as absurd as it is hilarious, but the best part is that the knife is perfectly fine afterwards ! I swear, Douk Douks are almost indestructible ... I love the tone of your videos, keep up the good work ! So many EDC reviewers lack humour !
Yep a few people pointed out the Giant Douk Douk. I may review it in the future, but have no plans at this time. It's about $100 or more shipped to the USA, and I'll have to see how well this video does first.
There is an alternate version of the medium and small called "EL BARAKA" that comes with a carbon blade, a chromium handle (white metal) and a non painted blade, with no decoration or engraving. I have this one and I find it beautiful. There is also the Tiki, with a plain black blade and the squirrel, with a spear point blade. The classic model with painted blade can also come with a stainless steel blade and chromium handle. There is also new colored handles...
What's the difference between a crappy noble and a crappy knife? Ones a Dookie Duke and the other... Also, I accidentally turned the CC on during the end credits and now I'm plagued by the wonder of what other easter eggs I've been missing all these years...
Tough call. The Mercator is a much more refined knife and it locks. But I feel this one might be tougher? I’d almost go with the Douk Douk. I’m kinda tempted to buy the Mercator with the pocket clip.
Thanks. That's what I was thinking. It wouldn't be a primary or even a secondary knife. That thin profile would lend itself to including in a few emergency kits.
I make most of my knives out of 1095c. Easy to work with, can be razor sharp and less expensive than "designer" steels(I'm quoting myself because I think I made that up.).My middle name is Savage.
Advanced Knife Bro Look, you play with batoning like that you will get hurt. The main thing is: were the views, likes and overall stats better because of that? Is the game worth the candle? Only you know it..... 🙂
I think so! I feel if I buy this shit I have to review it at least. Otherwise I’m just an asshole buying things I don’t need. Ok I guess that’s really what I am.
According to Wikipedia, it also can easily be converted from a folding-blade pocket knife into a useful fixed-blade dagger by the simple expedient of hammering the ends of the sheet-metal handle together behind the blade's bolster, locking the blade into the full-open position. As seen in Algeria where revolters used the douk-douk to remove the noses of their opponents in the late fifties-early sixties.
It's hard to tell, but I smacked the side of my thumb with the baton. The blade was too small and doesn't lock and the wood too hard. All reasons I did it.
The Douk Douk, both large and small, is made by Modele Depose, a French company that also makes the Tiki and the L'ecureil ("squirrel") knife. The Douk Douk also comes in red. I have one of each and the reviewer's comment on the pull is correct for all of these models, although I have GEC models that are far more stubborn. Finally, yes, knives will rust, corrode, and otherwise break down if they are not cared for. I understand there are those out there -- survivalists for the most part who spend lots of time in the bush -- who want a corrosion resistant blade and I don't blame them. But if you are not in the wilderness, don't just come home and flip a knife you've spent hard-earned money on a shelf to rust. Clean it, dry it and oil the blade with mineral oil. You'll be glad you did. I'm at the top. Peace-Out, folks!
That tin-can handle makes it look like a makeshift. And the grip can't be too comfortable either. I'd call this one a fail as far as pocket knives go. All it has going for it is a decent blade, but it has no other incentives to carry on your persons.
Isn't it time you reviewed the GIANT (4.5" blade) Douk-Douk? You'd be the first on RUclips (in English at least) as far as I can tell! www.amazon.com/Douk-DD815G-Douk-DD815G-Giant-Grey/dp/B071CHMQ9J

Now you need to find the Giant Douk Douk! It has a 5" blade! If you smash the handle you'll have a fixed blade.I put a small brass hook on the lanyard and it hangs perfect in my pocket. You will never feel it because it's so thin. THEY ARE RAZOR SHARP, BEWARE!!!
Only comes in rust curious steel you say? I'll stick to my Opinel in rust bi-curious 12c27 steel. Thumbs up for the batoning at the end, grab yourself a 🍺.
I think its hilarious that the company is asking premium prices, for a retro knife, that is basically .... not very good. Imagine if people started up a company that sold old fashioned light bulbs, made the old way, that look kind of cool but burn out real quick and kick out very little light .... oh yeah they do. They market them as "steam punk bulbs". Ill shut up. Clearly there is a market for selling old crappy designs. .... because hipsters. Love the video btw. Keep up the good work.

Rust curious. Legend.
Never hoped to see batoning with a Douk douk with classic music but i liked it 🤔😉
That way it makes batoning look smart.

if douk douk = douk 2

then does paramilitary 2 = para para?

I’m with you on the high carbon steel bro. Big fan. The rust is just nature’s way of telling you that you suck at knife maintenance.
Exactly. You can see a black spot on le petit douk.
That sweet batoning content you just don’t get elsewhere. Keep it up bro!
Thats what they pay me the big bucks for!
I like these sorts of comparisons and reviews. Thanks for not confusing me
I try not to!
'Douk Douk' is my dog's name, except it isn't spelled that way... or pronounced that way either.
These size comparisons are making me feel a bit insecure.
Wait till you see the estiletto!

Just found your channel I subscribed right away. Great video and reviews I love the no bullshit reviews thanks for posting.
“rust-curious” got me, good.
I’m so far beyond Rust Curious, I’m corroded to my very core. 😂
I realy want to see you batton with a victorinox sd classic and a opinel no 2
Batoning a non-locking knife...new levels of epicness bro.
I did this once before... maybe twice. But not as hard a piece of wood. It was a challenge!
@@AdvancedKnifeBro Keep going bro...you the man.
Ever thought you may live where locking knives are illegal.????????
Only you would choose a non locking blade for batoning!! Right tool for the job??
A non locking knife with a terribly uncomfortable batoning handle is the right tool for the job!
love me a nice akb review to watch during my lunch break. Douk² + batoning = classic
Thanks man!
You are using the medium sized douk. Could you make a video with the douk "le géant", which is 260 cm open?

I can't find the large one anywhere :c
I just used a little gun blue on my blade
Didn't Cold Steel make a folder frame knife???
This knife looks like it is made of paper, did you cut down the parent of this knife made from a tree to glue together this putty knife that batons?
Except instead of cardboard shitty steel!
I love the Douk Douk!!!
The Douk loves you!
Love the Hungarian Rhapsody. Liszt is one of my favorites
Great song! Wish they had more Liszt (and classical music in general) on youtube.
Best videos hands down!.. I love looking for the ant or bug in the dimensions section.

How do you like that S110V? Is it a bitch to sharpen?
Super easy on my sharpmaker. Takes 2 or 3 minutes to touch it up.
Why is a chubby Magic Man from Adventure Time on the handle?
I had no idea you can baton with a Douk... Well, there is an even larger Douk you can try batonning with. This larger Douk has an even larger grip.
What?? I have heard this twice now. I need to find it.
5:31 Classy, Liszt.
5:28 it takes a good beating

Can't stop, won't stop!
I felt rushed watching this video and the ant.

Bro, should change your channel name to "hurting myself with knives and wood"
Whacking wood.

Enjoyed the music and batoning. Baton is French for stick. You probably knew that.
I have no recollection of which video I said it in, but once I did pronounce it with a French accent.
Man I worry that you'll have the blade slam shut on you while batoning with a non-locker.
How would it, if it’s jammed in wood?
According to Wikipedia, it also can easily be converted from a folding-blade pocket knife into a useful fixed-blade dagger by the simple expedient of hammering the ends of the sheet-metal handle together behind the blade's bolster, locking the blade into the full-open position. Wait wat?
Tried to make a half-assed pun about the Kizer Dukes...
I bought the score to Hungarian Rhapsody just so I could add in a part for "Man Batoning Wood With Imported Slipjoint".
Near the end, trying to figure out if the F-bomb was the result of hurting your Douk Douk, or hurting your uhhh Douk Douk...?
It's hard to tell, but I smacked the side of my thumb with the baton. The blade was too small and doesn't lock and the wood too hard. All reasons I did it.
why are you Batoning a slip joint?
Because it’s absurd. I figured the whole tone of the video and the rest of my videos was a clue.
I'm sure your fingers disagree with that decision, after smashing them with a chuck of wood.
THE soothing sounds of batoning ,timeing is everything
If you were counting on a lot of Fire wood split you’d be disappointed in that knife
As you mentioned yourself: The Blue Lines are absent! Very disappointing! I’m afraid I have to dislike this otherwise flawless Review.
